I have never reviewed anything before, but for any celiacs out there, I want to share that as of July 2015, this Bethesda MD location of Ruth's Chris is woefully undertrained on gluten. Despite excellent experiences at the Pikesville MD location, the Bethesda crew served me a delicious but glutenous appetizer. I emphasized my celiac disease when I made the reservation, when I sat down, and when I ordered. Additonally, the waiter claimed to have full understanding when I said I needed my food to be GF for medical reasons, not just for a diet. I was suspicious because my app had a sauce and I asked a server/hostess to double check that my plate was GF. She left and came back a few minutes later to reassure me it was safe, so I dug in. Five bites in and my waiter walks briskly over, told me not to eat another bite, said my plate was not GF, and took it away. He apologized and asked if I was going to be all right; a manager came over and did the same thing, and they talked more with my parents while I was throwing up in the bathroom. They did not charge me. They earned two stars because at least they realized the error and owned up to it; with training and attention to detail, I doubt this would happen again.
The staff is amazing - the educated ones on GF. I had salad & baked potato served by an experienced server. Then I got the GF creme brûlée. A new person took that order and I’m sure he didn’t follow their protocol with the chef etc. Paid for it that evening.
I noted on our reservation a need for gluten free. When we arrived they had a gluten-sensitive menu ready. It listed everything that was either already gluten free or how to order certain things that weren’t. My steak and mashed potatoes were g-free to begin with. Salad was ordered without croutons and tossed in a separate bowl. The waitress was very nice, the gluten free status of my salad was confirmed by her and the waiter who delivered it. I felt very well taken care of.
I had a delicious dinner here! There are many gluten free options, though they don't have a separate menu. The servers are very knowledgeable about gluten free needs and are very accommodating and helpful! My mom, sister and I also had the three best cocktails in recent memory here!
I requested a GF menu and when I placed my order, I emphasized that it had the be GF. The first time they brought my salad, it had onion crisps on it. They brought it back and replaced it with a salad that had a hidden crouton. No other issues, but that will be my final trip to this chain.
I have eaten at this specific location twice. Both times I got the petite filet with the mashed potatoes as a side. This time I also got the asparagus, and BBQ shrimp for an appetizer. Everything was super tasty and if you're looking for a good steak this is definitely a good option, however...I got sick the last time I ate here as well as this time! I don't know from what but it happened. The only thing I can think is maybe it's just too rich for my stomach, because everything I had is cooked in a manner to be "safe". I probably won't come back but I will say the food is good so it's worth at least trying once!
The staff acted like they were super knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable ordering, but then when my salad came out it had croutons on it and my server didn’t notice until I told her, they brought me a new one, and I was hesitant eating after that but I did, and got sick the next day. So I won’t be going back! But they do have a gluten free menu, so maybe it will be fine for most people
I have celiac disease and my husband does not. We ordered an appetizer from the gluten free menu and told the waiter before ordering anything that I had a gluten allergy. The appetizer also didn’t list anything on the menu saying to order without bread. The appetizer we chose was barbecued shrimp. When the appetizer came out it had bread on it. The shrimp and bread slice all had a sauce on it. When we asked the waiter if the appetizer was truly gluten free. He simply said the bread isn’t gluten free but the shrimp is. They were all on the same small plate and were sitting in the same sauce. I didn’t eat any of it. I also had stake and baked potato. Both were good and I didn’t get sick after eating. It is safe to say the staff isn’t knowledgeable of celiac disease and cross contamination.
They have a separate GF menu and are very flexible. Once I complained to the manager about something that would likely cause cross-contamination (trio of dipping sauces, one of which had soy sauce in it), and she immediately removed it from the GF menu. The bartenders know Tito's is the safest vodka. This is great for a date night or celebration. Lots of Paleo options if that's your thing. (Side note: I've seen Steve Wozniak, Pablo Sandoval, and the entire Raiders defensive line here!)
So I have used this app for years and, while all my experiences have been positive, tonight I Have to write a review. I made a reservation same day online and notated celiac disease in the comments section. Of course, it is Ruth's Chris - so phenomenal food is a given. Tonight the service set this place apart! Matt and Sarah were absolutely wonderful. Truly went above and beyond. Patient, kind and personable. Both taking the time to give their recommendations not only with the menu but with local attractions. My husband and I both felt as though we were dining with friends. A wonderful experience. We will return.
Ruth's Chris in Savannah was excellent! Although the manager was less than friendly to have to speak to someone with an allergy, my steak was cooked perfectly, there was live music, and best of all, I didn't get sick! This will be my new go-to in Savannah as I had been weary of some of the southern options. Although pricey, you certainly get what you pay for and would highly recommend eating here!
Mmmmm is all there is to say. The filet is very good along with the sides, but, now let me tell you about the shrimp cocktail. A meal all by itself. You get 4 GIANT & delicious shrimp with extremely tasty cocktail sauce. It's hard to find shrimp that tastes this fresh that is GF AND comes with GF sauce. We've only been here a couple of times because it's pricey . Your taste buds will thank you if you do go.
Excellent attention to detail here at this location. I have celiac and so does my child and they were very knowledgeable with our server actually being celiac herself! It made dining out for a special occasion stress free. Thank you Ruth Chris Steak house!
The most normal dining experiences I've had since my celiac diagnosis. They have delicious gluten free bread, an extensive menu, allowed us to bring our own steel cask wine since they don't have any, and they break out fresh dishes to guarantee no cross-contamination takes place. Wonderful experience every time.
Three words: gluten free bread! They took exceptional care of us, and did so without any coaching beyond telling them of a gluten allergy. Substantial GF menu available, and as mentioned, they bring warm GF bread and butter to the table. Expensive of course, but highly recommended.
Ruth's Chris Steak House is in old city hall and the restaurant itself is stunning. There is a separate gluten free menu including all of their steaks and several other options/sides. I ordered a fillet and it was cooked to perfection, however I was sick within an hour of eating. The waitress was rushing and did not write down my allergies or order, and the woman delivering the dishes to the table was unaware of my allergies. Hopefully they will work on making their restaurant more allergy friendly because I would love to return in the future (and not get sick).
I let the waiter know I had serious problems with gluten. He assured me they could accommodate me. When my salad arrived, it had croutons. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he took the salad back, then returned after someone had picked most of the croutons off. I did not feel safe eating the rest of my meal which was also supposed to be gluten free. Very disappointed.
They have a gluten free menu. I had the lobster tail and filet. The filet tasted like it had been cooked and reheated. It was rare not medium well. Oh well.
putting money aside as this ia a very $$$$ restaurant...The gluten free menu is varied, the steaks amazing, and the restaurant is very sensitive to the issues with celiac. It would be great if they had a dedicated fryer. Ate the fiid and did not get sick which is priceless!
