Order the crab soup and you will be happy. GF, delicious and lots of crab pieces. Also had a nice local cherry cider at recommendation from the server. They have a special menu that identifies GF selections and those that can be modified to be GF. Server was knowledgeable, friendly, and gluten-aware. Reasonably priced.
Amazing experience. Had no idea they had a gluten free menu. Started asking questions and they were like let me get you our gluten free menu, then proceed to tell me what was safe and how things were prepared. Impressively knowledgeable server not just about Celiacs and gluten free but the entire menu. My friend and I decided to share the Kalua Pig bowl and Brussels. All loved their meals (Celiacs and the non gluten-free friends). Would 100% visit again.
Asked about GF menu and was advised the owners wife had celiac. Most of the menu is GF except fried items which really is a shame as we all know we appreciate fries and fried fish too. My husband had the she crab soup and pepper shrimp and I had the pig bowl. No symptoms after.
Wife of the owner is celiac, always a plus for the GF community. Waiter was extremely knowledgeable and warned us about the shared fryer proactively.
The food is really good and you can tell they use fresh ingredients. It’s a bit pricey for a casual place, but it’s really tasty and felt great after eating here!
Delicious food. Our server was amazing and asked chef about everything I was ordering. She also confirmed when food came out that chef prepared it GF. She mentioned that the owner’s wife has celiac and so they try to be certain everything is very safe. Great food, great service, great all around experience.
Ordered the kalua pig that was marked GF and something unfortunately was not. Unsure if it was cross contamination in the kitchen, something within the meal or touching my husband’s meal on the way out, but nonetheless, I became sick.
In addition, the waiter basically brushed off the fact that I stated I had celiac. Should have been an indication but the reviews were relatively positive.
My husband (who has multiple allergies in addition to celiac) expected to not be able to eat here. We were pleasantly surprised when our server and the chef (who was the owner and happened to be cooking that night) made a custom dinner of grilled scallops, white rice and sausage— delicious and completely safe! We’ll be back!
Mahi Mahi sandwich with fries that were cooked in a separate fryer was good. They have lots of gluten free choices.
Celiac must go on Tybee island! The GF menu was handwritten, but perfect. It mentioned all options, what used fryer and what didn’t. I had crab soup and mahi mahi poke bowl and they were both amazing. My wife is not celiacs, so she had some gluteny crab fries that I was tempted to eat. And they had Atlanta Cider on tap.
I was excited, after reading several reviews of this place, to have a seemingly safe option near the beach. On our last vacation, we had to pack lunches for the beach. We arrived soon after opening and still had to wait for a table for almost 20 minutes (without all tables being full). The gluten free menu is one of the paper menus with GF indicated on the applicable options. While our server was knowledgeable and said that the kitchen has a protocol and takes many precautions to remain safe, he was a little too enthusiastic with his disclaimer about a shared kitchen. While my family member who is sensitive, symptomatic Celiac was pleased with a poke bowl, the rest of us were underwhelmed. It was an extremely expensive lunch, two of us hated the taste of our meals and the portions were reasonable-to-small. I had the brisket sandwich which tasted strange, was dry and the gf bun was terrible. I literally fed 95% of it as leftovers to my dogs. The side salad (since the fryer is shared) did have a nice vinaigrette. Our one who ordered the greek meatballs somehow expected something very different and didn't eat at all. Her meal also came out with bread. The server asked if he could just remove it and we confirmed it had to be remade.
Beware…they are apathetic at best if you have a gluten allergy. I was handed a menu with hand written markings and when I saw that fried dishes were labeled GF, I got up and sought out the manager (the waitress and hostess were very young girls). When I asked about a shared fryer, the manager said yes, they fry everything in it, regardless if it’s GF or not. I told her that they should not list it as GF then but she said it was marked on the menu as a shared fryer. When I looked, it was a tiny handwritten note in the corner. Again, I said that doesn’t work for people with an allergy and she argued that yes, it was GF. I gave up and went back to the table. When the waitress came, I explained the situation and same thing! She treated me with a type of bored indifference and just kept shrugging her shoulders saying that even if it’s fried, in a contaminated fryer, it’s gluten free. I tried explaining it to her and finally gave up and we walked out. They actually had the nerve to do that darn Southern “bless your heart” thing behind my back. Wow. I am an extremely friendly and polite person and do everything in my power to be discreet and kind with regards to my special needs but this place was not busy and there was no need for the “tacit politeness” that I was treated with and the disregard to the importance of cross contamination. If you are a severe intolerant or celiac, you are risking getting sick by eating here.
Planned my stop because of the reviews on this app. Did not disappoint! Friendly, knowledgeable, gf fryer. Awesome! 😁
Cannot say enough good things about this place.
Really cute spot near the beach, staff friendly and very knowledgeable about GF. When you ask about GF they’ll bring you a separate menu that has everything labelled. They make everything to order so cross contamination is not an issue - just can’t get anything fried.
Food itself was incredible. One of the best meals I had during my trip to Savannah. Perfectly done grouper and the side salad I got with it was hands down one of the best salads I’ve had in a long time - a pretty simple salad too just done really well with fresh quality ingredients.
If you’re visiting Tybee Island - this is your spot!
Amazing food! We had shrimp bruschetta, crab soup, brisket grilled cheese, and shrimp stir fry. It was all delicious! Server was extremely knowledgeable. They have a menu marked with all the gf options and there were lots. The owner’s wife has celiac. Highly recommend! We’ll be back!
A.maze.ing!! Would eat here daily if we lived nearby. Complete confidence in their safety practices. Waiter was excellent and knowledgeable. Reassured and even persuaded us to have the key lime pie which he 100% guaranteed was GF safe. It was. No reactions at all from my sensitive celiac teen.
The waitress informed us that she was gf as is one of the owners. I would eat here every night on vacation. Had the Mahi Mahi, edamame and corn. It was great! The menu is not marked but most of the menu can be prepared gf. The edamame is noted as having soy sauce and the waitress informed us that it was gf.
I enjoyed my meal but I felt like I had to be very careful of everything. The staff wasn’t very knowledgeable and I had to bring up stuff like the pig having soy sauce (which I saw on here!) and then the waitress said “oh yeah I forgot”. I just didn’t feel very comfortable with my meal, and the menu had 0 markings.
Ok i was so happy when i saw menu and reviews but due to dedicated fryer most if it's not GF. Only entree i could eat was the Kahula Pig and even that had soy sauce yet was marked gf in menu. They left it off after funding out i was Celiac.
Only reason i give this place 2 stars is the gf desserts. The goat cheese cheesecake was insane. Also have gf key lime pie. But overall it was expensive and disappointing.
I was so confident after reading these reviews and ate here. I had the pimento burger asked for no grilled onions and got veggies as a side. I was so so sick. And this was the only thing it could have been from because I ate at home the rest of the day. Not sure if there was confusion when the server put my food in but I would not go back. She told me she was gluten free herself and even asked if I was celiac.
The best celiac friendly restaurant in the Savannah area. I had a burger WITH a delicious bun, and I also had gf key lime pie for dessert. Gluten free and gluten friendly items clearly marked on menu. The owner is gluten free and understands celiac needs. This should be your first stop when visiting Tybee Island.
