knowledgeable servers but the pizza crust was a bit soft for my preference. this is due to putting the pizza on a pan in the wood-fired oven instead of directly in with gluten-pizzas.
Unfortunately another "pizza specialty restaurant" that uses a frozen gluten free crust and charges an additional $3 for it. The pizza arrived cold in the center. Over priced.
I was so disappointed. The food was really good, but it made me sick! I don't usually get sick right away, so I ate the leftovers to be sure. I got sick again :( If you aren't very sensitive, the food tastes good.
I had been starving for pizza since going gluten free and I was very pleased with the pizza here.
Food? 4/5 stars. Great food - delicious gf crust. Also had the edamame which was sadly over cooked so much that some pods were close to mush.. Otherwise, 5/5 if it weren't for the edamame being over cooked. Service? 3/5. Slow, non-attentive service when it was not busy. We stood waiting to be seated for quite awhile before we figured it must have been a seat yourself restaurant (since there was no sign and we were not acknowledged by anyone). It wasn't. we were not acknowledged until quite some time after we sat down. Sat for quite some time before receiving our appetizer.. No wonder it was close to mush. Sat without drinks which were never refilled. We never were asked how our food was. Even getting our bill and receiving our card after took longer than it should have. The food was worth it even with the service.
Really nice place. Friendly wait staff and no problems ordering gf foods items already listed as gf on menu.
Knowledgeable kitchen staff and great gluten free crust, had the goat cheese pizza with sausage and the burrata basil pesto, amazing!
They note gluten-free on their menu and the server that we had seemed educated. They offer plenty of things that are GF including pizza, but we were too full to eat it! I would recommend this as a safe place to eat in SD that isn't some massive chain (it's a local chain).
Good thin crust pizza. Numerous options for toppings, all very good. Staff was knowledgeable and professional and most importantly, no cross contamination.
Good pizza and wine!
Crust was decent and they had a dedicated menu with lots of topping options for their pizza, instead of the few that most places have. They even had a vegan cheese option for those who are dairy free. I enjoyed it
Pizza was good, crust was not as crisp as I like, but great taste. Though I am not celiac, I do react seriously and I had no reactions. I ordered the GF chocolate cake to go, and wished I hadn't. Two very little pieces of cake with some raspberry syrup and it was $10.
Overpriced for the food given, waitress seemed to not know what we were talking about. not great :/
*this location specifically* (others have been fine) after clearly stating "I am gluten free...the bad kind...celiac...please let the kitchen know, bc I get very sick"... Waiter didn't note it on the ticket, didn't recognize my pizza crust was what, dropped pizza off, and disappeared. We had to flag down a manager to ask of the crust was really GF (nope). No understanding from waiter OR manager about what celiac or GF is. Manager suggested we order the flourless chocolate cake, which is NOT gluten free.
Maria was awesome, she knew which options were gluten free and the food was fantastic. Glad we went, good food and AMAZING service from Maria.
Food was fine. Staff were friendly but it was SLOW. They were out of the Brown Rice Bolognese so I settled for a salad.
LAX terminal 4 location has limited menu but they have brown rice pasta and it is the only pasta they serve so reduced cross-contamination issues. Pasta hit the spot and actually quite good for airport food.
They think they understand Celiac, but don't. Their protocol for pizzas is all wrong. They use shared space, the same sauce and toppings as regular pizza. They swore by their technique so we tried it. Thankfully, Nima tested positive for gluten so it wasn't eaten. The chilli tested safe. The restaurant staff was not terribly understanding. We won't be back.
Items marked on the menu- salads and pasta. Staff seemed well informed. Yes
We stopped here for a late lunch on a trip to southern California. They certainly DO have gluten free options and I ordered a gluten free pepperoni pizza. I specifically asked for a gluten free crust and the server repeated back my order correctly. I'll also add that we were one of a small handful of tables on a Sunday afternoon, so being too busy should not have been an issue. When the server brought out the pizza, she again, specifically mentioned that it was gluten free. After having some of it, however, I realized that a gluten free crust is not this good :-) Needless to say, it was too late and I had enough of it that I knew I would be struggling to get over it for a few days. Ugh! These guys have gotten some pretty good reviews as far as being a decent place to get a gluten free meal. Not so in my case - either the server purposely misled me or was lacking in training in what gluten free meant. I looked at my receipt as I paid and noticed no charge for a gluten free crust, so I am sure the kitchen staff never knew what I needed. Proceed with caution on this one!
Overpriced small gf pizza with bland flavor. Minimal toppings. $18.00 rip off
I ordered 1 gf Hawaiian pizza( they only come in personal size). I was charged $18.00. I Obviously wanted top try this pizza as it seems gourmet for such a high price. When I recieved the pizza, it had 6 pieces of Canadian ham and 5 micro slivers of pineapples on top a lot of cheese. The taste was very bland. Nothing special. I took a picture of it to post, but I'm trying to figure out how to post it. Seem as though we get charged 3x's the amount for gluten free crust. What a rip off!!!
Great food but not celiac friendly I got sick from this food the first time I ate it
Gluten & dairy free place. I love it here!
I liked my pizza and my friends liked their food very much. We enjoyed the patio area on a quiet Sunday evening. Waitress was nice and helpful in telling me which pizzas to avoid (Thai, for example). But nearly all can be done on a gluten free thin crispy crust... For an extra $4! Seems a little high, but it was tasty. I would've never known it was gluten free! I had goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes & pine nuts which was mild but very good. Not bland like some other pizzas. Seems there's only one size of pizza which is enough for two. I'll be enjoying my leftovers tomorrow! They brew their iced tea (no mix) but not the lemonade so I skipped that. I think they can handle celiac needs for the most part. I try to avoid peak times at any restaurant and that usually helps.
I really like Sammys and have been to three locations. All are consistent with service and good food. Wish they would use the gf pizza crust for hummus plate. I'm giving 5 stars bc safe. They did forget the pepperoni in the pizza, and steak was slightly overdone. But overall very good.
Worth the trip. Great GF pizza for a tourist from Texas. Thanks.
Knowledgeable staff, lots of GF choices, and awesome pizza. Very nice, yet casual, decor. I highly recommend putting this on your list!
Have eaten here DOZENS of times and never gotten sick. LOVE this place!! Incredible staff, very knowledgeable regrading gluten-free and keeping it safe for Celiacs. Definitely recommend!
Really delicious gluten-free pizza crust. It's corn-free too (if you're like me and also allergic to corn). Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Great place.
