April 2024 update: They just added Sunday hours with brunch options!! So tasty: English muffins/bagels with egg/bacon/sausage etc. Egg quiche with a dairy free option. Hash browns. Yum yum yum.

Nov 2023: I love this spot!! So glad there’s a dedicated GF place in Frederick. I go whenever I’m in town and have tried almost all the fresh baked goods. My top recommendations are the key lime pie bars, apple turnovers, sugar cookies, and molasses cookies - they have such an impressive range of pastries. Their churros are so good!! I haven’t had anything that was less than tasty. I also love the hot food options, though the menu is small. Don’t expect to get a salad. Chicken fingers, fries, onion rings - yummy! They added mac and cheese options not too long ago, sooo good. Once at the very end of the day, the dairy free mac and cheese was a little less flavorful and a bit more cooked than I prefer. Still enjoyable though! Definitely try this place out, and enjoy the Old Bay fries! Just remember to check their hours first, they are limited.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Sanctuary Modern Kitchen. I cannot have gluten or dairy and they have lots of great options. They have a few hot items and frozen take home items. Most recently we pre ordered a pumpkin roll and a pumpkin pie for the holidays and they were amazing. Definitely worth checking out.

Delicious gf selection made in their dedicated kitchen. Take out items, some heated to eat on the spot as well as a fantastic frozen selection to take home. I stocked my freezer! Will return! Favorites: Delicious cinnamon rolls and chicken empanadas! Very helpful staff and website.

I was traveling through and nearly cried when I found this place! Fresh made chicken tenders and fries! So many baked goods! I took Snickerdoodle cake and a Seven Layer Bar to go. They have frozen prepared meals. Some are already cooked/baked and others you bake at home. I bought the Mac & Cheese bake and thawed it thawed while I drive so I could microwave it at my hotel for dinner. Everything was so delicious!

100% GF business! They have a small menu of hot dishes, frozen dishes to go, and baked goods. It's great not to worry about cross contamination and GF fried foods are always a treat! As an update to my previous review, I wish the new owner hadn’t done away with their indoor seating and many of the hot and ready items. It’s also a good idea to check their FB page before you go; they have very minimal hours and they frequently change.

The chicken tenders and fries were AMAZING, I was thrilled to be able to eat them again since being diagnosed. Reading other reviews I wish I was able to try/buy more, even though I did get more than expected to take home. Unfortunately it’s a bit pricy and I came from Annapolis’s so it’s quite a hike getting there.

Delicious gf and df muffins. Had a freezer full of things like soups, savory breakfast biscuits, pot pies, pizza rolls, etc. We were shopping and it was really hot, so we could not try those items, but we will be back!

First thing you should know is that this is NOT a sit down restaurant. The next thing you should know is it is very expensive.

This isn’t to say it isn’t worth it, but I was really disappointed. I just moved here from a GF friendly city, so Frederick is a sad place for me.

I got two orders of chicken strips and fries, with each meal having three strips in it. It was delicious but it was also upwards of $30 including a modest tip.

I could not afford to buy anything to take home because everything in the freezer is around $20 and up.

Again, delicious fried food (they only serve one hot dish each day) and expensive. I didn’t get to try anything else.

OMG!!! The chicken pot pie!!! I can’t believe I can have a pot pie, and empanadas, baked goods and actually anything in the shop. I visited several GF places in Frederick (we’re lucky to have choices) but Sanctuary is the only certified location and that means my family can choose in the kitchen! I recently had to cut out dairy too and was devastated but the staff recommended some GF/DF options. I love the GF/DF lasagna and cinnamon rolls! The staff is educated on allergies and talk me through purchases because they or their family members have allergies and they truly care and make great recommendations. Bonus - they make custom orders on the days the kitchen is ‘closed’ so I called to asked them to tailor menu items and they were happy to do it.

Chicken tenders and fries were delicious and so was the muffin with lemon glaze. I also got frozen food to take home. Highly recommend stopping by here if you’re any where nearby when they’re open! Probably best to double check they’re website or Facebook to make sure they’ll be open since they’re so small. Definitely worth it!!

This place is adorable and perfect, but no one here cares about atmosphere! I got the chicken sandwich. It was out of this world. And the bun stayed together!!! It was homemade and fresh. Nothing like the terrible frozen Udi buns other places serve. 100% recommend!

Sanctuary- please, I’m begging you. I want to try that chicken sandwich sooooo bad. PLEASE update your hours on the website. I’ve now tried to eat there five times and the hours keep changing. Frustrating. And yes, several of those times, I did think to call first, thank goodness.

Great little place. It is located behind Talbots. It's basically a bakery with some takeout food, everything we had was great. I just wish they offered more hot take out food. Google maps brought us right there if you don't see it just keep driving until you do eventually you'll see it in the corner.

Absolutely Sonado! One of the best gluten-free places I’ve been to in the country and I’ve been to a lot of places. I make an effort to stop here every time I’m in the area. I’m disappointed they’re closed today I will have to backtrack.

Fantastic gluten free bakery selling lots of frozen foods (pot pies, pies, pizza crust, biscuits, etc), a smaller selection of fresh baked (muffins, cookies, scones, etc), and a limited selection of hit foods (chicken tenders, fries, etc). This food is fantastic and it's a dedicated gluten free facility. The frozen pies are wonderful for holidays and their donuts on the first Sunday of the month are great.

If there was more of a selection of hot and ready to go, it would be an easy 5 stars. Although I appreciate they know what they can deliver fresh and keep to that plan. I have histamine issues and so require fresh food or I experience symptoms sometimes severe. No issues here! Fried chicken sandwich is nicely spiced, crunchy with a beautiful white delicious center. The roll is incredible. Moist, doesn’t fall apart, tasty. They should be selling this roll nationally. No GF bun I’ve tasted comes close. The fries were good but not unique. They did came from a dedicated fryer which is always a treat. The molasses cookie , was not overly sugary and held together well and tasted 5 stars. He also got a turnover and I will update when he’s had that. We also got frozen to go- Arancini-My husband gave them 2 thumbs up. A new concept to both of us but what a great lunch option for little or big GFers. Just grab a crunchy bite and enjoy. *****Chicken pot pie Yes! The very hard to get 5 stars! My husband gasped! “You gave 5 stars?!” Lots of butter on the crust to brown it up. Then we dove into flavorful, crunchy yet gooey crust and creamy, chicken-ie goodness! Wow! Just Wow! This is a huge meal for one so the $15 price point is a decent value. In my MIL Mary’s words, “it was perfectly seasoned!”

There was no indoor eating area and it was cold and rainy so the outdoor tables were not an option.

Free parking lot behind Talbots, but you need to drive around the block to find it. Our google maps, said we had arrived much too early, so keep driving or ask where Talbots is as we did. Talbots was a great directional from employee at restaurant we called before going.

FANTASTIC!!! You will LOVE this place and every item they make. My GF, tree nut free family love everything we try. My little one is still in shock that he can eat everything in the store! The cookies are amazing and the cinnamon rolls are unreal. A must try and completely safe for gluten free and nut free!! Thank you.

Amazing!!! My 2 celiac kids loved the hot food and baked items. Chicken tenders and chicken pot pie were delish, even for non-GF family members. And they do shipping which we’ve used several times! They even have pigs in a blanket and empanadas. All gets shipped frozen and very easy to cook. Our favorite by far though is the cinnamon rolls. They really are the best we’ve ever had!! They do run out sometimes so might want to call ahead. Small eating area, high stools with only a small number of seats but suited us fine. I think they have some outdoor tables too but we went when it was cold. Highly recommend!!
