This place was awesome. Before I said anything the server came over and asked if anyone had any allergies. I told her I’m Celiac and dairy-free, and she marked up the menu for me with what options were completely safe, which could be modified, and which were unsafe. It’s a smaller menu, but there were still quite a few options to choose from. I went with the Maitake Kaarage (basically fried mushrooms, so good and already GF and DF on the menu) and the Mentaiko Lumache pasta (modified to GF pasta and no dairy). Both were delicious. The pasta did initially come out with regular gluten noodles at first on accident, but the server corrected it immediately and was so kind about the mistake. Despite that I would say I felt safe here and didn’t get sick. I would steer clear of the pizzas though as I believe there was risk of cross contact, but the pasta was delicious!
Our server was extremely concientious and I really appreciated it. She was careful to point out that, although they can make the pizza on a GF crust, they do not have Celiac-safe pizza kitchen space or oven. I was able to try some of the chicken skewers, and the grilled octopus (which was delicious, but definitely a “small plate”). I tried the pasta seafood bolognese, which was very different, but I did like it after I got used to it, (they just substitute GF pasta, in a separate pot) with the sauce. (There is no squid ink GF pasta; no GF gnocchetti, etc…) Both the desserts were GF, so my husband and I both tried the chocolate budino, which was good, but not hugely sweet (so, great for those who love salty desserts). Fun wine and drink list.
They will hand mark the menu for you and outline what exactly you can and cannot eat.
Hence, I am surprised to see recent reviews from celiacs stating the pizza is GF. While they may have changed their kitchen setup recently, both times I dined here in the summer of 2022, I was told to NOT get the pizza. They told me they could not provide a separate cook space and lots of flour is used for their regular pizzas. This obviously could’ve changed in the last year or so though, so I would inquire further about pizza before ordering.
Otherwise, pretty much every pasta can be made gluten-free (noodles are cooked in their own pot) and all the yakitori is safe.
This was great! I got the gf pasta (MENTAIKO LUMACHE) and the Yakitori. Great drinks too! And they have a whiskey bar on the second floor that serves gf cocktails too. The server was knowledgeable on celiac and took precautions about my food. I wouldn’t trust the pizza if you’re celiac since it’s a shared space and shared oven but to each their own.
