Went with the advice of others and skipped out on a gluten free bun so I went with the chicken fingers. They were tasty but the staff was a little rude about answering cross contamination questions. Either way, I didn’t get sick and enjoyed it!
The chicken fingers were fantastic! They're breaded in corn flour and fried. They're the only ones they offer, so there wasn't a risk of cross contamination. The fries were good too! It was nice to eat the exact thing my husband ordered and her liked the fingers too! I would definitely go back.
The cashier was totally baffled when I asked him about contamination, but I checked out their fryers (you can see it when you're ordering) and incredibly, despite all the gluten chilling out around here, those chicken fingers really *are* gluten-free. They're one of those chains that starts getting dodgy when you ask questions ("if you have a severe allergy, you shouldn't take a chance...maybe don't eat here..."), but the fries and chicken fingers are made in a separate fryer and don't seem to come into contact with the gluten-containing buns. And perhaps more importantly, it's totally delicious! I felt like a kid again. I've returned several times and I certainly plan on continuing.
was really skeptical walking into here as it looked like a gluten overload with all the burgers, sandwiches, fried food, etc. but they really did shock me. Once I told the register girls what I was allergic to they were more than accommodating. Sandwich was so delicious I basically inhaled it. It's corn-based which still affects me a tiny but but totally worth it. Getting the chicken fingers and fries next time. One note- not sure they change gloves when handling GF sensitive food so I can't list this as celiac friendly.
The girl I placed my order with forgot to tell the kitchen I had ordered gluten-free, so the first hamburger arrived in a normal bun. It was sorted eventually and the food was delicious but you need to make sure they put the order through correctly
Awesome, very knowledgeable. I had the turkey burger, no bun (though they do have gluten free buns), and sweet potato fries. You have to request the sweet potato fries to be fried in the designated frier but it even recommends you do that on the menu. Everything is clearly labeled and the staff was so kind and friendly in answering all my questions! I'm picky and I ask a million questions and I was impressed by this place.
I read the reviews and felt confident however my daughter felt “crampy” after chicken/nuggets and fries the first night. She had complained of belly pain prior so we thought she just wasn’t feeling well overall. The 2nd night she ate nuggets and a few fries. She got really sick/nauseated an hour or so after. She is very sensitive. We were so bummed.
I LOVE SCHNIPPER’S QUALITY KITCHEN!!! We go here at least twice when we are in the city. The have a separate GF menu that you can ask for at the counter. The chicken strips are naturally gluten free and if you don’t get them you’re crazy because they are SO GOOD. They definitely give good portions as well. And they deliver!
The fryers are not separate. They have separate sections of the fryer, but that was not enough for me to not get sick. I got a tuna salad sandwich on a gluten free bun with sweet potato fries. The woman who took my order seemed very knowledgeable about celiac and let the kitchen know. I am giving the place 3 stars (not 1 even though I got really sick) because I think people can eat here safely, you just can’t eat everything they say you can eat. They did try their best in terms of changing gloves and printing the allergy on the receipt. Just don’t trust the gluten free menu. Use your best judgement.
I couldn't find anywhere where they listed GF but when I asked the cashier he said anything breaded is GF and they have GF buns. I ordered the fish and chips (they use Mahi for the fish and I substituted sweet potatoe fries with the maple sauce) . Hubby had burger with sloppy joe fries. Very tasty and even though it doesn't look like a lot it filled both of us up perfectly.
The chicken strips are AMAZING!! I ate here three times during my week stay here and never had any issues. I got the chicken strips twice -once with bbq sauce and once with honey mustard (both were good, but I would highly recommend the honey mustard!) and a gluten free burger once, and fries every time. I will be visiting this place every time I come back!
Everything breaded in store is gluten free!! Chicken fingers Fish fry Crispy onions They use buttermilk not egg. I’ve never gotten sick here. Sweet potato fries can be gf to you just have to specify they get put in the right fryer Gf buns are available for all the sandwiches too! 4 locations in Manhattan Also the owners frequently visit the stores.
So many options. Staff are knowledgeable. Went here twice while in NY. Had the burger and fries once and chicken fingers and fries another time. They were both delicious! Haven't had chicken fingers and fries in years!
Amazing gluten free food! Lots of options and a quick food option. They had kid friendly options. They have a dedicated fryer for the fries so there is no cross contamination. Staff was very helpful and if they didn't know if something was gf then they would ask management. We tried the burgers, fries, sweet potato fries, sloppy joe, shakes, gf cider, and root beer floats. It was all amazing! We will go back anytime we are in the area!
The best intentions of the management are for naught if the guy who takes your order isn't paying attention. Nice atmosphere, nice people, but despite asking for a gluten-free menu and specifically asking for a gluten-free bun, my order came out on the regular potato bun. And they didn't get my drink either. So, I would urge caution if you are truly celliac or gluten-sensitive.
No attention to cross-contamination! I asked for them to make sure the kitchen knew the sandwich was gluten free for a celiac, then watched as they cut the sandwich in the exact same cutting board where they were cutting normal bread and handling all sorts of gluten-ous things. The sandwich looked delicious, but I refused to eat it. Looking at their kitchen, I don't know how they could possibly avoid cross-contamination.
GF menu has lots of options. Staff does not seem to pay great attention to cross-contact (aka cross-contamination). My daughter's GF chicken strips and fries were served on a very small tray next to a regular burger plate. If you go there, I suggest ordering a celiac meal as a separate order from anything else and monitoring the kitchen staff (it's on open kitchen).
I was just told that they mix wheat buns with gluten free buns. The manager assured me that if you order the burger without the bun the grill alone is safe. Celiacs be careful. So it's kinda sorta Celiac Friendly. Best to talk with the manager every time.
Chicken fingers were yummy, but nothing, fast about this place even though it's set up like a fast food restaurant. Fries are McDonald's style. Ranch dressing I paid extra for was only half full. Good option for kids.
