They have a gluten free menu; however, they appear to have some problems following it. I went here with some family last weekend. I ordered from the gluten free menu and explained that I have celiac. Our appetizer, mussels, came out with the bread on top. We pointed out the error, so they left that one and brought out a second dish of mussels on the house. Next, my chicken sandwich came out with a bun that looked just like my husband's non-gf bun. I asked them if it was gluten free and they said, oops no not that one. They took it away to make another. However, they returned less than 5 minutes later with a new chicken sandwich. I am skeptical that it was new, as I have been having severe glutening symptoms for days. I also was somewhat concerned that that the new bun was not GF (though it was definitely different than the first bun I got). It was delicious, soft, chewy, and not crumbly - all not usually characteristics of GF buns. At this point, I am not sure if it was the bun or the sandwich cross contamination, but either way - this restaurant is not safe for celiacs.
This is the best Sea Dog location I have been to for celiac understanding. We went twice while in town. The first night the server told us his mom had celiac and he got it. He reassured when putting in the order he makes it clear it is an allergy and they take precaution in the kitchen. I got the quinoa salad the first night but added chicken and he forgot and it didn’t come out for awhile. The second night the server was still knowledgeable but wasn’t as reassuring about the safety and contamination predations. I got the burger on gf bun and mashed potatoes which was good. They unfortunately do not have a separate fryer and some items can be pricey for what they are.
I explained an allergy - they advertise gluten free - we talked with the waitress all about it - the bun I was served was not gluten free - I realized after eating it - the manager apologized but as you know - once you eat it - there is nothing to make it better. Be very careful if you are celiac!!!
We have been several times in the past, but tonight was not good. My son’s GF cheeseburger came out covered with non-GF fries. My husband ordered the GF turkey BLT. It came out on bread with sesame seeds. We asked the server twice if it was GF because they already made one mistake. He assured us it was. Luckily we didn’t eat it because he cane back 5 minutes later to say it wasn’t GF. I raked to the manager and they comped the two wrong meals, but that is too many mistakes for one meal.
Lots of gluten free items were offered on the menu. As an appetizer, I ordered the spinach artichoke dip, which was served with corn tortilla chips. It was delicious! For the meal, I ordered a lobster roll with a gluten free bun. My server knew which sides were gluten free, and listed the sides I was able and unable to eat. My meal was tasty, there were many options, and the server was knowledgeable. I would definitely eat here again!!
It was very difficult finding something to eat here. I have a dairy allergy too and even though they have gf bread, it is not dairy free. The only option was a salad. I had a rather unappealing looking salad - it was very disappointing when it was brought out to me.
I had a late lunch here after a hike. The menu had many gf options and our server was knowledgable about cross contamination. I had a lobster roll with a gf bun and gf clam chowder that is thickened with potato. All of this was washed down with a Downeast cider. I highly recommend.
Was hesitant at first as it’s a big and busy place with lots of beer. I was thrilled to find a very knowledgeable staff and large gf menu. I even had lobster bisque! I’d go here again and I’m extremely careful. It had a beautiful deck overlooking the river, reasonable prices and my food was safe and delicious. My waiter was great and I felt fairly safe. That being said, I never feel safe unless I’m in my own kitchen or eating in a dedicated gf facility. I’d go here again and am happy to see there are a number of these restaurants in the New England area.
Recent menu change is a disappointment. Many GF options but they have removed the rice side that was so good. Waiters work with you and menu has options. However the summer 2020 menu change keeps me from giving a 5 star review.
GFA (available) marked items on regular menu. Precautions noted by server on kitchen ticket. Food delivered and announced “gluten free.” I skipped the sweet potato bean burger because it was made with oats & I didn’t want to take any chances. Also the option for a side was a small bag chips (not fries, shared fryer), which I did not eat because the bag was not labeled gluten free. My companions meals were ~meh, not worthy of 4 stars either. Veggie nachos consisted of raw hot jalapeños and olives, cheese not fully melted. Vegan asked for no aoili which was still delivered on the side thankfully). I (celiac) did not feel ill afterwards, so that’s almost an automatic 3 stars imo!
Both Celiac people in my party had no issues. Our server was new and was conscientious about wanting to make sure we were okay. She did not know answers to many of our questions so it took a while to place an order. One downside to this restaurant is that the kids menu does not mark what is GF. And even with checking most items are not available GF so my kiddo had to order from the adult menu.
I come here every summer and it’s the first stop on the way from the airport. I’ve never actually had anything other than the lobster roll but it’s perfect so no need to try anything else! So so wish they could do fries as it would go perfectly with the roll but other than that can’t complain at all!
I appreciated that they have a GF menu, and was actually able to order clam chowder, which was good. I also ordered their GF pizza, which was clearly frozen and not worth the money. It came undercooked and was very disappointing.
My wife and I ate lunch here today. She has Celiac's. She went in ahead of me and spoke to the bartender, Amber. Amber was wonderful in looking at the menu, even calling the manager to determine exactly what my wife could eat. Even the manager came out and spoke with us about their food preparation areas and precautions. Bottom line I have discovered: if you have Celiac's, TELL YOUR SERVER. And be prepared to wait a little longer for your food, so the kitchen staff can adequately and safely prepare your food. We both look forward to visiting and enjoying lunch here again!!
The gluten free menu is a completely separate menu, so ask for it right when you go in! I was really surprised by the amount of options they had. I will definitely be going back. I had the blackened haddock sandwich. SO good. It came on an udis bun.
Had the gluten free blacked haddock sandwich and the bread was the best i have had. The waitress was very cautious as well and alerted me when things weren't gluten free. I had tater tots from the fryer and didn't get sick if you aren't celiac that is a good choice too!
They have a gluten free menu but got sick after eating here so obviously not careful with the prep. I ordered the simplest meal, haddock with rice and steamed veggies and still got very sick.
While they do have a gluten free menu and gluten free beer (Omission when we went) my husband got very sick after. He got pork chops and I got pizza, both tasted good. Service was extremely slow, would not recommend it for people with Celiac.
We ate at Sea Dog last night and beer samplers were great. My daughter is gluten sensitive and the hummus appetizer was tasty. They have a SEPARATE HUGE menu with TONS of choices, not just one or two (including salad with chicken). They even had SEVERAL gluten free deserts. Creme Brule and flowerless chocolate cake were EXCELLENT. The bartending staff waited on our table and service was AWESOME! It was great to finally dine out as a family and not see my daughter suffer with poor choice selections and crappy tasting, bland food. She had a turkey burger with gluten free bun and said it was delicious. I use this app everywhere we travel to and actually fourd a gem of a restaurant. Make sure to give reviews as I saw a lot of positive ones for Sea Dog and that's why we chose it out out 30 other ones in North Conway NH.
Gf lobster roll and clam chowder were delicious as was the coleslaw and cider I had. We sat on the deck with a lovely view of the river. Very accommodating waitstaff. It was very exciting to be able to eat a proper lobster roll.
I'm really upset with restaurants not being held accountable for poisoning patrons & getting away with it. I specifically said I'm allergic to gluten (when we all know it's NOT an allergy). I ordered every item stating "off the gf menu, I would like to order the gluten free xyz"... I then asked if every item was gluten free when it was delivered to me. The last 4 hours I've been throwing up ... In a hotel room... With my family in the next room. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. I don't care that it tasted good... Cuz it was awful coming out. I wish I could negative star this. Negative 10 stars for no care of my well being.
one of the best GF meals I've had in Maine. I ordered a turkey burger with all the toppings and side of veggies. they toasted the Udis bun, so it tasted good. My husband had steak and artichoke salad, also on the GFmenu and it was awesome. I wish I had an opportunity to try their lobster roll, and calamari starter. They also have gfree dessert. I had flour less chocolate cake with raspberry topping, scrumptious!
they have a gluten free menu. it has a good selection. I ordered the nachos off of it, the waitress even said "oh the gluten free nachos are so good." I got sick though. I don't think they gave me the gf ones. so don't be afraid to double check. 2 stars because they carry my favorite gf beer.
Great place! The hostess as well as server was very knowledgeable about GF options. They had a concert menu the night I was there so the server went over everything on the menu and told me what I could have. when I ordered my burger she said "sorry. you can't have fries because we don't have a separate fryer. You will have to have the coleslaw. It was great knowing the server was looking out for me!
Great gluten free menu with a good variety of options, including gluten free breads. My husband had the mahi-mahi sandwich which was incredibly good! I had the salmon BLT which was OK (served cold, not hot). Friendly staff with a good atmosphere!
