I had a great celiac-safe burger here in May 2022. It was so good I was worried it wasn’t actually gluten free.
The burger I ordered came out the first time with what appeared to be a normal bun. The server took one look at it and agreed it wasn’t the gluten free bun. So she took it back and they remade it. The second time it came
Out with the crispy onion straws on it, but with a noticeably different bun. The server took it back a second time because the crispy onion straws go into the shared fryer.
Finally the burger came out a third time (after everyone else in my group had finished eating), and I wolfed it down very quickly. It was seriously so delicious, I was afraid I would get really sick, especially since it had come out wrong twice before, but I was so hungry I ate it. The bun was actually soft almost like a real bun. My husband tried the bun and said it was gluten free though. And I didn’t get sick at all!
Another plus to this place is the view of the river near the dam if you get a seat outdoors. The giant sturgeon were constantly jumping up out of the water while we were waiting on food and eating. Pretty cool and unique!
Last time I went in they refused to ring in my food as an allergy and told me I would have to show them an epi pen if I wanted it made without cross contact. No epi pen= no ordering. They even had a sign on the door stating they will not cater to food allergies without providing proof of an epi pen…. As we all know celiac is not an anaphylactic issue. So disappointed.
I have been eating here for years and always loved it, I’m sad they have made this alienating choice to those of us with dietary issues.
Menu marked with items that could be made gluten free. The waitress was very knowledgeable and knew if parts of each meal was fried with shared oil and asked if that was okay or not when taking my order. They are well informed of cc and take it seriously. I had a cider, salad, and clam chowder. Really delicious food. Great service.
The food was not good. We ordered food to take home as we were a 3 minute drive from the restaurant. The food had obviously been sitting as it was not only cold but the cheese on the nachos had congealed so much that when I tried to pick up one nacho the entire batch stuck together and lifted out. The chili had a burned flavor and the haddock dinner that we ordered was messed up and we got a cold piece of haddock on a bun. I can’t vouch for it being GF as I didn’t eat much of it. It wasn’t worth the calories.
Celiac friendly, but the food was less than stellar. We ordered to-go -from the specific menu- and food came out already cold. Also, order was incorrect (somehow ended up with a custom haddock sandwich when I ordered the baked haddock straight off the menu). The cold nachos were a close second to the cold haddock on a soggy bun. And the chili was incredibly dry and lacked flavor. Tried to order dessert and had to point out the item on the menu (almost ended up with a strawberry float in place of a chocolate torte). I won’t go back or recommend the place.
