There was no specific gluten-free menu but they offer to prepare almost everything (minus 2-3 dishes ) as gluten free meal. Must say it was a first for me. Food was great and overall a great experience. I am sure to visit again with my gluten free mom.
Able to make sandwiches on gf bread. waitress was knowledgeable and pointed out gf options on menu when we asked about gf bread, also asked if it was for celiac. Food was really good. Overall Traverse City, Mackinac Island, Petoskey area is very gf friendly.
Some good gluten free options. No gluten free menu. They have GF buns that are good. They cleaned the grill for us. Tasty. No potato chips or fries because of shared fryer. Side salad was the only safe side.
They have gluten free buns which were very good. Had the steak burger with a side salad and oil and vinegar. Sensitive celiac and had no issue. Waiter spoke to the chef before placing my order and assured me it would be safe. Would recommend for celiac.
There was no gluten free menu. The server and kitchen staff were very knowledgeable. However, my mother and I ended up with less than desirable dinners. Mine was my fifth choice on the menu and my mother got her third choice. My father, who can eat anything, was not impressed either. I will not return to Seabiscuit and would not recommend to a friend.
I had a wonderful breakfast experience here. The server's niece has celiac, so she was knowledgeable. When she took my order to the chef, he verified he had a separate, clean space to toast my roll and prepared my food on a clean surface. There's no dedicated kitchen, but they do the best they can. The server, bartender, and chef were fantastic.
They have a dedicated gluten free menu and the food was so good!
The food was good and they had a gluten free menu, but the server we had was not very knowledgeable about gluten and we worried about cross contamination.
Just say no. There's a difference between wanting to appease people who want gluten free and actually caring about their health. It seems this restaurant only jumped on the gluten free bandwagon for the money. My family of four ordered 3 gluten free cheeseburgers with small bags of chips, one salad with waters to drink. It came to more than $50. When the burgers came out it was obvious my bun was different than the other two. Mine was a gluten free bun (very tough) the other 2 were much larger buns. When we pointed it out to the waitress, she insisted they were all the same. We kept insisting and she went to ask. She came back and said a mistake was made. She brought out 2 gluten free buns after a 10 minute wait. Had it been me, they would have had to re-do the order as I am extremely sensitive.. Then a manager came over and asked if all was okay and I told him the situation. He apologized and asked if we would like an order of fries. I had to remind him that they are not gluten free as there is no dedicated fryer. They have no clue. Really, the only different option they have for gluten free people are the (awful) buns. I can buy better buns myself at the store. They list sweet potato fries on their gluten free menu but they are not fried in a dedicated fryer. I pointed this out to the waitress but she just glazed over. So, I wouldn't even consider this an option for gluten free eating unless one is only doing it for the diet fad and not their health as in Celiac. They do not understand or really care.
Broad range of gluten-free options on a separate menu, and they were very accommodating about my dietary restrictions. The waiter was able to tell me which items were and were not safe easily. They don't have a separate fryer, so anything fried is out if you have celiac, as I do. Still, that leaves plenty to choose from. My wife and I split the Michigan Cherry Cobb salad, and the Great Lakes Whitefish, both of which were excellent. No GF desserts, unfortunately, but there is GF fudge just down the street at Joann's Fudge.
GF menu includes options cooked in the regular fryers (server informed us), so not safe to order their "gluten free" chicken tenders for kids. Ask several questions before ordering.
5 stars for effort and an extensive gf menu. My daughter however thought the bun was too dry and didn't eat much of the burger, but probably great for an adult with more flexible tastes! No reaction!
Yum! Great atmosphere. Great options. Friendly staff.
We stopped in for a late lunch. They have a GF menu - just ask. They did speak as if they were knowledgable but you need to inquire specifically. They said they used the same fryer but not with other gluten items. This is contrary to another post here. The GF bun was good and I agree it tasted like a regular bun (although a little dry). The staff was friendly and prompt but not as well informed as they may appear. She told us the PB pie was homemade but upon arrival it was clear it came from a box in the freezer section. I would still recommend it - reasonably priced for what they offer and a fair bit of variety. My husband (not GF) liked his gyro. Small place but they are skilled with parties of 5-6 from what we saw. A party of 2 was a bit out of place. No place for large strollers.
Stopped by here when staying on Mackinac Island, MI for a conference. I had the classic hamburger on a gluten free bun with sweet potato fries. This is a small place, so I opted to sit at the bar. The barkeeper was knowledgeable about GF issues and noted that the sweet potato fries are made in a dedicated fryer. Celiacs should ask questions, however. The burger was tasty, as was the GF bun, which looked and tasted like a regular bun. The sign for the restaurant is located one story up and is not easy to see. The sign/logo is also on the window.
The cooks were knowledgeable, cautious, and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious, and the decor was wonderful!
Good gluten-free sandwiches and salads for lunch, and around five entrees available for dinner. Best we found on the island!
Very accommodating, waitress was very informative about what is safe and what was questionable. highly recommend.
They do have a GF menu. Many sandwich options but many were mayonnaise things and I just wasn't in the mood for that. Glad I decided against the egg salad because someone at another table got it and it appeared very wet. I did get the tomato basil soup which was very filling and quite delicious. Ate my husband's potato chips (bagged) because he got some sweet potato fries. Definitely recommend.
We were here a day later than the last reviewer and I joked "uh oh. This must be the 'crabby old lady' from the review." Turns out she was absolutely sweet and welcoming. Teased my hubby and patted my daughter. Very gluten friendly. Special menu. Made substitutions for us and the meal was awesome.
We were here June 2015. This restaurant got good reviews for being "Gluten Free". I wish we could've got past the crabby old lady at the front door! I'm guessing this is a good place to eat as it seemed to be very busy at all times. It's a small place so be prepared to wait. However, the older woman at the door really needs am attitude adjustment! I'm sorry to say this but she really was crabby and not very nice!
Good hamburger buns for gf. Patties were frozen, not fresh/hand made, tomato was pasty white, side of bagged chips were meh, nothing special. For the price, I would expect higher overall quality. Servers very friendly and good kid menu. Would not go back.
They were so accommodating and friendly about it! Buns were good and toasted, kids options were good. Nice place right on main st. Will return for sure!
Great food. Just ask for the gluten free menu
Has a good selection of gf items including bbq pork salads and burgers. They even have one gf dessert. The gf buns have dairy in them so that's a bummer for me but my friends have said their gf buns are good. Just make sure you clarify you have allergies and how they need to adjust the meal and they'll do it for you.
