Gluten Intolerant

Review

We live near Shrimpy's, and have eaten there from time to time over the years. Sad to say, it has become a poor choice for gluten intolerant people. The waiter conceded that they make no effort to accommodate food allergies. New Orleans style food is a gluten minefield. I had blackened fish with broccoli, and rice and beans. My wife had boiled shrimp and grits. Those were the only safe looking choices. Even without taking food allergies into consideration, the food is not what it once was, and I could not recommend it.

They don't have a lot of options, bunless burger, grits or fish, but the manager Gina was awesome! 100% aware of celiac and cross contamination. My celiac daughter enjoyed her cheeseburger. We will be back! Ambiance is awesome

Shrimp n Grits
Sometimes they change the sausage, so ask if it's GF. Remind them not to give you bread. I always ask for extra tomatos on the side in place of the sausage.

I spoke with the chef & he said he only felt comfortable serving the shrimp & grits at lunch. I thought I hated grits, but ordered my only option. It was so good I started craving it. It's so rich I order extra chopped tomatos to add.

This is a very cool place. It's very small and I have celiac so I was a little worried at first but the staff was very knowledgeable. They don't have a GF menu but the servers were very helpful at telling me what is already GF and what can be made GF. I had the jumbo shrimp with cheese grits and veggies. It was delicious and I didn't get sick. ALL their food is sourced locally and it says on the menu they don't but anything frozen our from sysco, I love that. It wasn't busy when we went so they said they would be able to handle my food with carefully but I would be cautious if it's busy bc the kitchen is very small so CC could be an issue. Great Margaritas!

I had the salmon, mashed potatoes and salad. While everything tasted delicious I did get sick. Maybe order without the salmon glaze/sauce.

The only place that will make you gluten free crab cakes! Ask for no Panko. He uses corn chips instead of breadcrumbs. Breakfast here is amazing! Tater tots cooked in dedicated oil. Try the Ocho Amigos omelet! UPDATE: the crab cakes now use bread crumbs and are not gluten free! They don't use a dedicated fryer for the tater tots. The only GF thing will be omelets here. I've adjusted my review accordingly. And the black beans have chicken broth which means u will get glutened.
