If they weren't named "Silly Yak" and didn't have "gluten-free" plastered all over their store front, I'd give them a higher rating. With their name and advertising, one would think most if not all of their products are gluten free. That is not the case. The gluten free section consists of a freezer and a couple baskets on a side counter. Very disappointing selection. (If you want good fresh GF baked goods, go to Bloom Bake Shop.) The scones are British-style, and are not at all sweet. Since American scones are a pastry, there needs to be a warning posted that their scones are more like a biscuit (a dry biscuit, at that). The bakery is also expensive for what it offers, you can get cheaper frozen baked goods at Hyvee that are also made by local bakeries. Silly Yak gets 3 stars because they make these delicious little pizza bites. They're in the freezer, but they warm up nicely in the oven. Overall, I would say don't bother making a special trip here, but if you have the money and you're in the area you may like to drop in for something to warm up at home.
This gluten free bakery is okay. It's little pricey compared to other places and the food is not worth the price. I personal am not a huge fan of this bakery their cookies and scones tend to be hard. Some of their breads are pretty good but on the other hand some are horrible.
Silly Yak was once an amazing bakery for gluten-free breads, pastries, etc. Recently purchased a variety of scones and Bavarian rolls. The scones were inedible!
Extremely poor shipping and customer service. I ordered nearly 10 different gluten free options from Silly Yak, and although I loved that they had so many options, the shipping is $10 and when I received it, everything had been smooshed into the box as if they didn't care that everything would get squished to oblivion. I couldn't even eat most of the things I ordered, and the pizza bites I ordered were moldy when they came in. Emailing customer service did absolutely nothing, I got no response or refund. Do not order from here!
Found them at the farmers market. I loved all the gluten free choices! I tried a cinnamon role, scone, and cookie. They were honestly just ok. But still convenient to have them there and have options.
Fair amount of options, and we've tried many, but my daughter with Celiac doesn't like any of their breads (and I agree). I think it's the textures? One of them, when heated, was oily. Haven't tried any of the desserts, however. Very very nice people there, wish I liked the product more!
Disappointed in the bread. Dry typical GF. Ok if toasted. Other baked item were the same with the exception of their gf brownies which are excellent.
I found their bread to be rather dry...
Amazing place for celiacs. So thankful to have them!
I absolutely LOVE this bakery! It was so nice to know that I could still eat sweets during vacation! Everything Gluten Free is separated and even baked in a separate area/room! By far the best bakery I have attended! The spice donuts are delicious - and their baked so I can actually eat them. Yay! 😊. Now you just need to open another bakery where I live!
Amazing everything!! Loved that I could ship the items to my house in MN!
5-Stars! Fresh-baked GF that ships to all 50 states & US Territories. GF Breads, cookies, muffins, pizza crusts, scones, etc. GF beer avai at store only. Ship via USPS Flat-rate box or Spee-Dee Delivery in WI & surrounding/nearby states
I love living so close to this place!! My favorites are their frozen pizzas, donuts, cookies, and cheesecakes!! Not a huge fan of their sliced bread or cupcakes. Overall a really nice place for people with celiac. They have gf beer in a cooler on hand too.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Love the selection and quality at Silly Yak. From foccacia to scones to breads (and not just one or two types) to cookies (that taste like cookies!) to biscotti -- Silly Yak has it all. Sure it's pricey but honestly, I don't care. It's GOOD. And, I'm just tickled that a place caters to folks like me. If you don't see what you want out fresh, check the freezer case and check the posted baking schedule. All GF production is kept separate from the traditional stuff and you can take a peek at the whole set up yourself -- this added an extra level of comfort for me.
Great selections! Love the muffins and the bread especially.
Whenever I visit my in-laws (I love em dearly but they don't know much about gf) I get to eat gf baked goods from this bakery. Delicious, although a tad dry, and convenient.
Fresh & favors moist wonderful. Sour cream coffee cake mouth watering good! Celiac friendly , always a must stop when in Madison from Minnesota. :-)
Lots of options, a separate dedicated GF kitchen. Just wish I could make it over there more often!
tons and tons of yummy GF items.
At the time of this review, the app labels this as a dedicated gf business - I thought that would mean everything is gf. Not the case. A review says they have a dedicated kitchen, the company website indicates the same, but a sign at the checkout warns there is wheat used in the kitchen. I did buy some specialty bread that I used to get at a bakery before I had to be gf. We also bought a dessert item and a muffin and both were very good. I'm mainly disappointed on the confusion between this app and reviews (including the owners), the company website, and the reality of what is actually offered at the bakery. The good product and gf options minus the contradictory and confusing info equals three star rating. 7/13: ETA: I've upped this to four stars because I've actually eaten the bread, twice now, and it is just so YUMMY!!! I've had the jalapeño cheddar and the spinach feta breads. I also appreciate the fact that it is an actual loaf and sliced so it works well for grilled cheese sandwiches.
GFGMA, Thank you for great review. We are sorry for the confusion. We actually have two different kitchens. The Silly Yak kitchen is a dedicated and certified (by the GFCO an affiliate of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America) gluten free kitchen. It is totally separated from the rest of the business. It is located behind the red wall in the GF grocery area. There is no wheat or other gluten products used in the Gluten Free kitchen, and this is where our Certified Gluten Free products are made. The checkout and GF grocery area are connected to the Bread Barn Kitchen, where wheat products are made. The signs saying, "contains gluten" are referring to the products in the Bread Barn grocery area, not to the GF kitchen or GF products. If you have any other comments or concerns please feel free to call us at (608) 833-5965
Excellent Bakery selection
Yummy!!! Best place ever!! Hollys health bread/ buns rock, so delicious & good for you. Friendly staff & atmosphere. I love their fresh pizzas, & gf biscotti. I def enjoyed picking up a gf beer on the way out...finally, I feel kinda normal!! :)
Delicious baked goods! There are samples put out on gluten free tuesdays and saturdays. They have a separate gluten free kitchen to make everything in. They also sell frozen pizza and lasagna (from Bunky's cafe in Madison, WI). Awesome place!
