Dedicated gluten free fryer. Waitstaff seemed knowledgable and to care. The food was great as well!
Food was awful. Waiter was clueless about gluten free and/or celiac disease. The manager (or what I am assuming was the manager) tried to assure us the food was gluten free. However, the food arrived to the table and was not gluten free. The kitchen remade the food and (after waiting 30 mins) the food was awful. Summary: the entire party of five did not enjoy their meal AND they served gluten “by accident” to a customer who was very clear about having celiac disease and needing gluten free food. I would stay away.
We have been ordering from Silver for years now. Even when they are running promotions with new foods, there is usually at least one gf item. The only criticism I have is that I wish they did an old school regular ol pancake. We’ve ordered breakfast, lunch, and dinner from silver and everything has always been top notch.
Silver Diner has made great strides with their gluten free offerings and food handling protocols. A year ago, I became violently ill after eating some allegedly gf pancakes. Recently, I gave them another chance and the experience was wonderful. Waiter was knowledgeable, food was safe and delicious, and the menu has improved over all.
Food is so delicious that we went back 2 days in a row! Lots of gf options and vegan too. Lots of healthier options. They even have organic ketchup! The avocado toast on gf bread was amazing! My kids loved it too!
I imagine this place is great if you have kids or if you really like sweet foods, but personally I don't have any kids and prefer savory foods. Their savory menu is pretty limited and pricey and the menu is difficult to decipher. I would only go here for dessert but not an actual meal as the food is just ok, but at least it is safe.
Amazing food and so many GF choices, including the kids menu. I had a question about one of their specialty burgers, and the manager came over to talk to me. One of the burger toppings was a breaded tomato - which has gluten. But then the manager said he could make a gluten free version with a fresh tomato and corn meal/egg. He not only went back to the kitchen and prepared it himself, but he also instructed the other cooks on how to substitute it too! Incredible experience and we will be back!!
I was highly impressed with this diner. We recently were there for the first time and the manager came to speak with us to tell us what the gf options were for breakfast. My daughter opted for the kids gf french toast and loved it. What I liked best about this place is that they offered gf options on the kid menu at a typical kid menu price, which is hard to find. We will definately return.
steak and burgers without bun, one salad option, eggs, bacon, milkshakes. they state the mashed potatoes are gf..no gravy
Very few GF items on menu.
I ordered the Thai Cauliflower Pasta with gluten free pasta (as listed on the menu). The dish might be better as a quinoa bowl, but it was good, slightly small in size.
I asked if the pasta was cooked in its own, separate water. Waitress said it was but didn’t seem to care about my concerns, making me a bit worried about cross contamination.
Although I felt fine after eating, I experienced typical contamination side effects for a week. I’m not 100% it was caused by this meal, but I did not eat out otherwise.
I’ve eaten at the Silver in Bethesda and had no contamination issues.
I’d give this restaurant another chance, if I had to, as no other waterfront restaurants in the area, at this time, appear to be GF friendly.
This is a family-friendly diner located a block away from the waterfront. Some outside seating. Bar located separate from diner.
I got the gluten free french toast and while it was tasty, I literally threw up on the plane an hour later😭and remained sick for the weekend. I can’t say this was a CC issue as vomiting is not a symptom Ive ever had. Additionally, my non-gf partner had the regular stuffed french toast and also got sick for the weekend. So.. I think it must’ve been something other than gluten.
