Visiting from out of town and saw great reviews! I was definitely blown away by the quality of the food! Drinks were very good and I got the SOB burger with a gf bun and fries. The bun crumbled a bit but the taste was so good I could see how you'd question if it's gf or not. 10/10 will come back next time I'm in Memphis! I'm pretty sensitive and had no issues at all!

Great food and service. GF menu provided. Chef talked to us about the food and dedicated fryer. The burger bun did not disintegrate - not the tastiest bread but the 'first stays together like a burger' experience I have had in a long time.
— Yes, the establishment is dedicated gluten-free

They had amazing, flavorful blackened catfish that is naturally gluten free!! It tasted great ans did not have a reaction.

The servers were rude, inattentive and not helpful in determining what was GF. They do NOT have a GF menu.
They do have dedicated GF fryer and the General Tao’s cauliflower was GF.
Our food was all cold and we explained our gluten allergy but the bowl still came out with bread. Not impressed at all.

Our server was fantastic Shante and she made sure I was OK with GF. I had a Buffalo Chicken sandwich with fries. It was so good I questioned if was GF. The only downside to this restaurant is the menu is not marked GF. The staff did help me through with what I could have. They have dedicated friers.

The gf options are marked on the menu. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Kitchen staff came to the table to confirm I needed gluten free for Celiac. They have a dedicated frier. She apologized that the chips might have been fried in another frier. So they definitely care and know the situation.

Staff is very well educated in everything they have here including all the sauces. They seemed to actually care and not want me to get sick.

Gluten free items were clearly marked on the menu, and the server was knowledgeable. The blackened catfish was delicious, and the crème brûlée was a nice surprise for dessert.

There’s no longer a GF menu, and nothing is marked as being GF on their in-restaurant menus. Their online menu still has GF options marked, but not always correctly.
My husband and I ate here, though, and the waitress was very patient and helpful figuring out what I could eat that was GF and DF.

Not gluten free ...Labeled gluten free on the menu but cross contamination .
Not Celiac Friendly! I ordered the SOB Burger on lettuce (no bun) and explained my food allergy and sensitivities. They don’t have a designated fryer but claim their fries are “gluten free” when they also fry breaded products with them. Waitress brought me a burger burnt to a crisp when I requested cooked “medium”. They took Forever cooking another then brought it to me burnt on the outside and RAW in the middle. Wait staff and cook were not friendly at all . I gave up and went to Bedrock Cafe, the best restaurant in town! I’ll go there from now on! Don’t waste your time at South of Beale! They don’t even deserve 1 star but I couldn’t leave the review without it.

Really funky & fun atmosphere.... got really loud tho as the place filled up. My daughter informed the waitress of her gluten allergy and the waitress acknowledged the importance of this statement, she ordered the shrimp & grits & really enjoyed them. Unfortunately, with in 2 hours after eating the meal she was running to the bathroom....must have been cross contaminated. She was disappointed to say the least as she is new to this city and hoping to find gf places to enjoy. It sure isn't fun trying places out only to get sick while trying.

Many GF items. Good food! I loved the shrimp and grits and the maple Brussels sprouts.

The lovely drinks were a great start. We said up front that we were GF and found SOB on this app. My daughter ordered the shrimp and grits. All of our good was delicious, however, my daughter discovered pasta noodles in her grits. The server mentioned that it's because " they're right next to each other " in the kitchen. She also said " she should be fine if she didn't eat it. How do we know if she ate any? I can't recommend to anyone with a serious food allergy. No management addressed it. Bad form all around.

I have been here twice. The food is fantastic. Gluten free items are marked on the menu and I did not have any issues with cross contamination here.
Yes
Was told there was possible cross contamination in the fryer. Waited forever to order. Waited forever to get food. It was not busy. We saw our food sitting in the window forever. Terrible experience, would not go back. Also, they were out of most things I tried to order. Settled on spinach salad with salmon on top. Got some other kind of salad....ate it anyway because I was over it...they comped the meal but still...

Delicious! Duck fried rice was great and they have French fries (separate fryer), what a treat!

So so so so Good!! We had the duck fried rice appetizer - amazing! I had the Shrimp and Grits, which were spicy and perfect. The Brussels sprouts really are that good! My daughter had the zucchini noodles, while hubby and son had bunless sandwiches. Very friendly staff and fun atmosphere.

AH-MAZE-ING! The duck fried rice and the seared tuna is so interesting and delicious. The popcorn is also incredible. They have a dedicated fryer and staff is super knowledgeable. Love love love!!!

By far my favorite spot for dinner--date night, girl's night, whatever. I never have to worry about what I order, and there are always so many seasonal options.
Small-ish selection, but very tasty! Menu changes a bit. Same owner as Zaka bowl!
Yes
a very limited gluten free menu (3 items I think) but it is safe and delicious. The shrimp and grits are fabulous.
Good place. Attentive service, decent menu, careful kitchen. Tasty cooking. Well done and safe for celiacs. Would go again. Had the salmon w brussel sprouts - tasty salmon and really wonderful brussel sprouts. Kitchen will individualize / modify dishes cheerfully. A good experience.

They staff was very kind and very accommodating. We had a great meal it was celiac safe!

Initially disappointing because only a small amount of items on the menu are listed as GF and they don't have a dedicated fryer. Totally different when the food comes out. The Duck Fried Rice was transcendent, and the seared salmon with Brussels sprouts was fantastic. The staff is also very aware and knowledgeable. Large portions that are both filling and delicious. Great atmosphere and located very close to Beale
tl;dr - small but wonderful selection, good atmosphere near Beale St, would visit again

Lots of gf options on the menu, but the 'beer' tag is wrong. No gf beer. :(
Shrimp & pimento cheese grits was delicious, especially as being from Australia I wasn't sure what it was gonna be like. Would whole-heartedly recommend if you're in Memphis.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We had the seared tuna appetizer and it was delicious! The tuna and sauce topping was creamy and savory. The sushi rice balls were a little large given the bite of tuna but the overall fish was very good. For dinner I had the charred romaine salad with grilled salmon. The creaminess of the roasted red pepper dressing paired with the sweetness of the butternut squash and the savory of the grilled salmon was a perfect symphony of flavor. The atmosphere of the restaurant reminded me of dinner at the Iron Cactus on a quiet midweek night in Austin. Loved it!

Good food. Enjoyed the duck fried rice as well as the shrimp and grits. Good for folks who are also friends of gluten. Friend had the burger and would go back again. GF options marked in the menu. We were told a staff member does have a gluten intolerance/allergy so they try to be extra careful regarding cross contamination. I did not get sick.
Yes
Great food, GF options marked on menu, and very knowledgable waitstaff (bartender has Celiac). I had the duck fried rice--so delicious! They also have bottled Angry Orchard.
A couple of caveats--marked gluten free options are not all celiac safe, as there is NOT a dedicated fryer. Server was very knowledgable and let me know about this up front, though, and helped me find safe options. :-)
Overall, really great experience. Would absolutely recommend!!
Yes
Solid GF options clearly marked on the menu. I've never gotten sick eating here.
