The crust on this pizza was so good that I went back and asked the proprietress to double check and make sure it was gluten free (it was). Hands down the best gluten free pizza I have ever eaten. And I did not get sick, so it really was gluten free.
Best gf pizza I’ve ever had. Haven’t been able to have a calzone in years and it was also amazing. They have gf flatbreads to have sandwiches on and I look forward to trying that next time. They make their own dough and it shows. Icing on the cake is the family that owns it!!
Delicious homemade gf pizza crust!! I have celiac - felt safe and didn’t get sick from the food.

Staying in downtown Albany New York. Didn’t want to go out for dinner. This pizza place comes highly recommended. Driver made a small error and gave me the wrong one but corrected it right away. Very tasty
I loved this place! I did not get sick or have any symptoms at all! I got enough for left overs too! The crust was thick even!!!
The owner was very knowledgeable & has owned & made all the things on the menu for 38 years or more. She's started banning Glenn free 12 years ago when hey sister was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. She's use to overnight orders before the pandemic & I would order pizza overnight now if I could.
It felt like family being there.
I can't say enough good things about this place. First, I didn't get sick after eating it, and I am very, very sensitive. Owner makes his own gf dough, which is why it's delicious, and all the GF items are cooked in a different oven (in the back). The pizza is fantastic and the calzone's to die for. I hadn't had a calzone in decades. Also, they sell cannoli cream in cups for those of us who are GF. I wonder if they have a Celiac in their family, they are so accommodating.
Pizza was great (I’m glad we got a second regular pizza for the family, otherwise I would have been worried we hadn’t gotten the GF one.) I didn’t get sick at all. Not celiac but increasingly sensitive.
I was really excited about trying this place. I got pizza and a calzone, which were both super thick and delicious. However, within a couple of hours I started getting sick. So while delicious, not the most GF friendly unfortunately. Won’t be going back.
WOW! My first calzone in 12+ years! It. Was. FANTASTIC! I ordered a calzone and a pizza roll. Both were fabulous. Even my non-gf hubby tasted it and was impressed. We will definitely be back.
Don’t let the fact that this is a little hole in the wall deli/pizza shop fool you. This is a mom and pop establishment that takes family tradition and pride in quality food to the next level. We ordered a gluten free cheese calzone and a 16” GF spinach/mushroom/garlic pizza. The entire order cost us less than $30 and was phenomenal!! Even my gluten living husband was beyond impressed. All ingredients were fresh and the dough was fantastic. I have no idea how they manage to make a GF calzone that is this chewy and delicious. And it was enormous to boot. The pizza crust appeared to be hand made fresh (not frozen). I had absolutely no issues after dining but I cannot speak for those that are super gluten sensitive. I didn’t ask about preparation, etc. but put my faith in what others have posted here based on their research. This is by far the best gluten free pizza I’ve had in 20 years. If you’re anywhere near Albany you must give them a try. This is carry out only - no seating in the place. Thank you Sovrana’s for making me feel like a normal pizza lover again!! I can’t wait to return.
Never had a gluten free pizza roll in my life. Ordered 2 nights in a row, it was so good. Separate dough/ oven / prep area, all pizza sizes, calzones, the infamous pizza roll. Cash only and delivery took about an hour and 20 both times, but worth it.
Been in business for long time for good reason ... they make great food. Gluten free included

This is the closest thing I’ve had to real pizza since being diagnosed (9 years!). They said it was prepared and made in a separate part of the shop and it tasted delicious. We had one white pizza and one regular and it was amazing. So grateful for this local gem of a shop!
The gluten free pizza and calzones are the best I’ve had. They have a separate area and oven for making them.
That gf pizza and gf calzone was amazing! I will be back. Sweet little family owned business. Call ahead and order your GF food. It takes a little extra time. Worth the wait.

NOT SAFE. Recently acquired a Nima gluten-testing device and tested the pizza. I ordered a gluten-free cheese pizza and informed the server I have celiac and the pizza tested positive for gluten. Very disappointed because the pizza is delicious but it is NOT SAFE. Eat at Sovrana with caution if you have celiac or an allergy!
This place is amazing! I haven’t had a calzone in years, and it was delicious! I was really nervous walking into a regular pizza joint as a celiac, but they made me feel super comfortable, and I’ve never gotten sick. Having real pizza is an absolute blessing!
Had the gf calzone and it was absolutely AMAZING, it tasted like regular dough, this is my new favorite place.
I wish this awesome spot was in Washington! The pizza was amazing and the owners are so kind. I haven't had pizza this good in years, and definitely not since my celiac diagnosis.
This pizza was great! Thicker crust. They take every precaution a pizza place can to eliminate cross-contamination. Very friendly and patient staff. Explained they began GF crusts 6 years ago for a customer. We got just plain cheese to start. Will definitely be back when in town to try the calzones! The dough is perfect for it!
I have Celiac and had no trouble. We were back home, I needed a REAL calzone fix before I flew back to Missouri. Got a mushroom & black olive GF to go; was amazing!! Dough was soft and a little crispy, filling was perfect. Super nice family, great food!! Thanks guys 😋
Delicious! Antipasto is a must. Calzone for 12 year old celiac--perfect light crust. Closest crust to regular flour ever. We learned that they even ship! Eat in. Authentic Italian deli. Thank you Sovrana family!
I'm really sensitive to cross contamination and I was worried about ordering from Sovrana because I can't even wait inside because the smell of wheat dough gives me a headache. However, my boyfriend and I have ordered takeout GF pizza on several occasions and I haven't gotten sick.
I don't post on this site but felt the need to for this restaurant. Maybe if you have a gluten intolerance this place is okay, but I would STRONGLY recommend avoiding it if you have celiac disease. Pizza places always make me nervous because it's extremely difficult to avoid cross contamination but I decided to give this one a try because of the good reviews. Bad move...

I visited with my daughter, both of us have Celiac. The quality of the pizza was unbelievable. It was the best gluten free pizza I've had by far. The owners put so much thought into the making of the dough and understand the importance of cross contamination. I would recommend visiting if you are ever in the Albany area.
Wow, is this pizza good! Normally you get the thin crust, barely qualifies as pizza, pizza when you order gf. This far exceeds expectations! Reasonably priced, tastes great, real homemade crust! Amazing!

My daughters with celiac give their GF pizza two thumbs up. And it's the largest GF I've ever seen. Wish I could post a photo.
I found them off of the find me gluten free website and thought I'd give it a try. I called in our order 45 minutes early to ensure it would be done before our plans for the night. I ordered a gf pizza for myself and a normal pizza for the other 3. Both of them were piping hot and ready when we arrived. We stayed to eat our pizza and the two gentleman were very friendly. My pizza was white with zucchini as a topping :-) It was AMAZINGLY good!!!! I'd recommend it to anyone!
Hands down best pizza I've found in the area. Crust is actually thick and it looks like a real pizza. They only make one size, but it's enormous! A steal for the price compared to every where else. Haven't been glutened there once.
great food, owners are very friendly and we chatted a while about how they make the pizza and where they get the dough mix and how they started doing gluten free. it had to be the best pie I've had yet. the crust is pretty thick and a little dry but great flavor and while slightly crumbly it held together quite well. overall I highly recommend sovrana. they said they can do stromboli gf too, something I'm going to have to try next time!!

Great pizza!! The dough is very good. It's not a shell like most restaurants use they make the dough there. It's a regular sized large pizza big enough for a family and only $14. I was very impressed and excited when I found this pizza.
I love pizza. I'm searching for the gluten free version of my favorite food. Deprived of "real" pizza for over a year, I finally call Sovrana's. They use a separate oven, make the dough fresh per order, and are careful not to contaminate it with gluten containing ingredients. 40 minutes and $14--better deal than Sherry Lynn's and looks, smells, and tastes more like real pizza. BUT, I'm a NY pizza kind of gal: I want crispy, chewy, thin, foldable pizza. A little oil dripping down the arm as i bite a folded slice would be a bonus. Pepe's I miss you.The search continues.... But 4 stars for those of you who like a little fluff to the crust.
