I was told they have a gluten free dedicated fryer and something along the lines of the owners relative has celiac and they understand the severity of cross contamination. For those of you that have celiac, you know that symptoms don't usually come on until the next day so it's hard to associate with the cause. I ate here literally once a week for a month and a half and thought I was fine. my joints hurt really bad and I was tired and weak and felt really low in so many senses for a month and a half. I looked into lyme symptoms and thought maybe that's what it was since I am always very careful with gluten and haven't been cross contaminated or glutened in years. I go to the diner about a week and a half ago and have a waitress I've never had before serve us and find out that there is no gluten free fryer. I am shocked and don't really believe her. I get my usual fried things and the next day, my symptoms that were fading are all back. I now know I don't have lyme but I was misled to believe that I was safe at this restaurant and had a really uncomfortable month and a half thinking I was eating safely..... It might be safe if you don't get anything fried but stay away from fried foods here even though they say it's gluten free on the menu and may tell you there is a dedicated fryer.
My gluten free pasta had a noodle that was a different shape in it. I was told that despite separate prep areas, my pasta was strained in a strainer just used for gluten pasta. Manager at first offered no solution and said only that this was a mistake of the cook. He then offered to refund half my plate of food. After we got upset, he refunded my plate off the bill total. Got sick.
We stop at this diner to and from Lake George. It has soooo many options. For breakfast, I had poached eggs, gf french toast, AND gf pancakes. I couldn't help myself with so many options. My husband who can eat gluten liked the pancakes as well. For lunch and dinner, tons of choices and dedicated fryer for awesome fries. I wish I had a place like this near my home.
My kids absolutely love this restaurant! To be able to order GF French toast or pancakes with no issues! Huge GF menu. Amazing GF Pizza. They are extremely knowledgeable and we eat here multiple times each summer with no issues (my son and I are very sensitive).
What a gem in saugerties! We ski at Hunter Mountain every weekend and we're so happy to find Starway Cafe and all of their GF options. Our daughter was has celiac was overwhelmed by all the GF choices! Thank you to the owner for offering legitimate, excellent GF options and a delicious regular menu!
AMAZING. Affordable and delightfully unexpected. Mozzarella sticks?! YES PLEASE!! Highly recommend for anyone; old fashioned, charming diner with more GF variety than fancy (expensive) places. Family friendly, wait staff and hostess were 2nd the best part. Because mozzarella sticks.
Went with my boyfriend who has Celiac and we'd seen on here how many gluten free options the menu had, went there tonight and we were both amazed how many options there was for him! Great food, very friendly staff, and we'll definitely be going back.
Great gluten free options! We ate here for both lunch and dinner. They have everything from breakfast pastries to deli sandwiches to pasta and pizza. I had a tuna melt on GF bread and veal marsala for dinner. Waitresses were very friendly and accommodating!
Clean and bright diner and pizzeria with friendly servers and extensive gf menu. Turkey dinner with gf gravy and stuffing, roast beef etc. I had a deli sandwich on Udi's white bread and gf onion rings. So darned normal, what a treat! Wish we lived closer.
