A note for those going in person: the restaurant itself is called the Standard. Stay Gold is the branding for the pizza (and used on Uber Eats)
and is listed on the door but this confused me as when I went the doors were open so this was not visible and noticed separate reviews on this app for stay gold and standard.
Once we cleared up this initial confusion, pizza was delicious and very safe!
I'm sitting in the restaurant and I'm still in shock that this pizza is GF. I'm waiting for my wife to get sick and it's not happening. This pizza is out of this world. $20+5 for the basic cheese up to $25 for the most pricey. We got the meatiest one for our first go. I genuinely want to cry.
The restaurant is shared with The Standard, a bar/tavern who offer GF nachos ($10 on Thurs happy hour) that are also just fantastic.
Truly exceptional Detroit style GF pizza, with several options.
Deep dish, Detroit-style pizza.
We spoke with the owner, who shared their very safe Celiac-mindful kitchen practices.
The dough is thick and bread-like! The portion is massive.
Will be returning again and again!
The very best GF pizza I’ve ever had! As others mentioned, they take reasonable steps to reduce the likelihood of cross-contact. They are well aware of what celiac disease is and are great at answering any questions you have.
I’ve unfortunately only been able to go once so far, but definitely not the last time! So good!
Delicious deep dish style gluten-free pizza. This is not a dedicated GF facility but they take reasonable steps to avoid cross contamination and mark GF foods, even when ordered through Uber Eats.
Update:
I saw some doubts on FB so I went in person. This is what I posted on the Celiac Canada Ottawa group:
I saw some questions about Stay Gold/The Standard. I decided to pop in and check in on the situation. I am SO glad I did. (I live very close).
1. Their entire menu is gluten free except the regular pizza dough and the burger buns.
2. Their fryer is 100% dedicated gluten-free.
3. They take precautions with their wheat-containing crusts vs. GF. There is a small risk of CC, but they use clean utensils, pans, all toppings are GF (even the breaded chicken) and the dough is prepared separately and wrapped prior to cooking. I can’t confirm they aren’t mixed in the same room but will ask next time. Ultimately, it’s the safest pizza location I have found to date.
4. They have safe wings, chicken tenders, poutine etc. All GF AND their happy hour is cheap.
5. They carry Glutenburg and Seltzers that are GF.
The server was super aware of Celiac Disease and the need for precautions. I am so happy.
This was the most epic pizza I have ever had! Especially as it was gluten free, so honestly my expectations were pretty low. But it was SO TASTY!
Believe me, try it, you won’t be disappointed (written after i have eaten yet another overpriced gluten free pizza that is now sitting in my stomach like a ball of lead.)
Heard good things and gave it a try.
Sent my husband to pick up and when he got there, was told that one of the two pizzas we ordered had been prepared with the non-gf sauce, so he was welcome to have it but they were whipping up a fully GF replacement.
I'm the only celiac so I mean, technically we got 3 amazing pizzas for the price of two, they were honest, accountable, and responsible. I 💯 feel safe ordering from here...and it's delicious!!!!
