This is a hostile environment for any out-of-the-ordinary requests. Unwilling to take fresh ingredients from the back of the store and became indignant when we questioned whether they had been trained in GF. (We've had proper care and attention at other Subways)
Then while I was still there, rang someone and moaned about the situation over the phone.
I tried to educate her on the ramifications of eating gluten to which she replied "yes, I know about celiac."
Ok, I wish her well for the future but hope it's in some non-food industry, non-customer-facing position.
Edit: now that I read the Google reviews I know I'm not that special, and even normies should avoid.
staff always use clean gloves when handling gf wraps and will even go so far as to change gloves if they brush a gluten order by mistake, and everything that goes in the toaster gets a clean sheet of baking paper underneath. the press is dubious at best so would recommend requesting that they don’t use it if you see them doing so!
Subway. I’ve read a lot of not so good reviews but my family was going for lunch and I wanted to see for myself. I was blown away by the precautions the store manager out into action when I said I was coeliac. I ordered a GF teriyaki chicken wrap. They cleaned all the work surfaces and all staff changed their gloves. My wrap had double paper and I was just really impressed. I was asked if I needed to see the allergy list but I had already looked online before going. Well done Subway Tahuna, Nelson. I felt really safe ordering from you. Upon asking I found that this is common practice and should happen across all Subway NZ stores which is awesome.
