The first time we went here the server seemed much more knowledgeable about what foods were GF. The selections are very limited as most of their rolls have either soy sauce (or unagi which contains soy) or tempura. I ended up getting sashimi because it was the only thing that felt safe. The second time, I really wanted a roll, so asked if they could make me a safe one. At first, the waiter told me that all rolls were safe as long as they didn't have Unagi sauce. I pointed out to him that tempura wasn't safe either and he just shook his head. Not feeling super confident at that point. Finally, we decided on salmon with avocado. He didn't know if the spicy tuna had soy sauce and said the chef wasn't sure either (what???)! I made sure to mark GLUTEN/SOY SAUCE FREE on the sheet. When the waiter brought back out the roll, it was on the same plate as our friend's roll that had tempura flakes all over it. My roll had bits of tempura on it. I told the waiter he needed to bring a completely new one back because even a crumb of tempura would make me sick. After he left with it, I realized we should have asked to keep the roll. He brought it out again, separate from our friends and said it was completely remade, but our friend asked if they could have the other roll so as not to let it go to waste and we were told the chefs ate it. So I don't know if I got a fresh roll or one with the tempura scraped off. In the future, I would have insisted that he leave the roll so I would know for sure, even if I had to pay for the extra roll. I didn't get sick that night, so I suppose all was ok, but the experience didn't inspire much confidence in me and I wouldn't go back. A chef should know what's in the food first of all and when a customer is very specific about it needing to be GF, care should be taken to not mix it was a non-GF dish. Worse yet, they mixed my roll with my friend's roll who was sitting across and two chairs down from me. Why would we have even been eating off of the same plate to begin with?! I'm sure this place is ok for those who aren't GF, but the point of this app is for those of us who are, so I can only give it 1 star.
