We were invited to the soft opening of Sweetgreen Capitol Hill. In store you order on a touch screen. Items are marked if they contain gluten. However, there is no option to mark “allergy” or add comments to your order. They do serve items with gluten so there is a risk of cross contamination. That being said, the salad elements are all stored separately and don’t appear to have much risk of cross contamination. I had the harvest salad and it was good and I did not get sick. Likely will not be returning because of the high prices.
The food is good and it seems lower risk for cross contamination than some other options, but their prominent disclaimer about not guaranteeing that anything they serve can be free of allergens plus their new automated ordering system that leaves no room for comments or requests is disappointing. It is easy to alter your order in the online system, which is good since many once GF options now have glutinous toppings by default.
Amazing selection and the workers were so cautious and helpful with my gluten free choices. The manager told me 95% of their items are gluten-free. I drove far to come here and would do it again in a heartbeat! Plus, the food is sourced with local organic farmers. Wonderful variety and your non-gluten-free friends will be very happy here.
