I have been in Dayton, Ohio for business 2-3 times over the last six months. Each time I’ve made it my business to appreciate & experience Table 33. Every single time I’ve left happy, full and never had a Celiac meltdown.
The greatness begins at the door with the ordering process. The entire team are well versed on what is safe and delicious for their immunocompromised guests such as myself. Then the bartender is patient & focused and wants to provide you with the perfect drink. The owner is super cool and smart and charming.
The decor is fun and rustic with sophistication. The restaurant is super clean (that’s the first thing I notice each time / bathrooms included) and the music is top tier. There is nothing left to share except that I am a celiac that can have SAFE chicken & waffles in public with friends and it is 5 STAR 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.
I’m back in town and on my way there. Can’t wait!
Service was AWESOME! All desserts were gluten free. Everything very well marked as GF in menu. Reason I rated 4 stars - $45 for the ribeye. Ribeye was mostly gristle and was supposed to be served over polenta per menu. It wasn’t served with polenta. I asked for the polenta, they brought a side much later and charged me for it. Not worth $50. But the chocolate cake was delicious and beautiful. Nice atmosphere as well.
Not dedicated gluten free. They do have gluten free items however as per the pastry chef they are made in a shared environment so they is risk of cross contamination.
I'm a new celiac, so finding places to eat has been a nightmare. But I called ahead, and the worker was very kind over the phone when it came to answering my questions. They were very knowledgeable about gluten intolerance and celiac, and when the worker didn't know something, they asked the chef directly. They were so knowledgeable that the waiter stopped by my table just to remind me that my boyfriend's fries were not safe for me to eat.
They were also honest and let me know that their fryer, which is normally dedicated to GF foods, was temporarily not gluten free due to a special they were having that contaminated the oil. However, all their waffles and cast iron dishes are dedicated gluten free, and they are careful to separate breads from other foods. For once, there was plenty I could eat. And it was so delicious. Genuinely, truly delicious.
Update November 2019 Visit:
This was my fav restaurant until the last few visits when they didn’t appear to have the same standards for keeping things gf. Recently went with a group of people. The meal I ordered, the chef declined serving due to concerns for cross contamination and instead offered to make a dish of his choice. The meal he made was amazing. Sadly my daughter was served a grilled cheese sandwich that resulted in 8 hours of vomiting, which means a lot of gluten for her. The restaurant insists they served her sandwich on gf bread, although in retrospect it didn’t look like gf at all. When I spoke with the manager a few days later, they said that the gf bread is made by a local bakery. Of note, this bakery is not a gf bakery, which I found out after asking more questions on the phone. Needless to say, we were confused at how they could be so cautious with my meal and yet our daughter was clearly served gluten. The response by the restaurant did not leave us feeling inclined to return.
Prior review:
Love, love, love this restaurant! Their chicken and waffles are so good, as are their other menu items. Great restaurant for pleasing those eating gluten and not.
Recently we visited and the manager came out to speak with us. Apparently a supplier had accidentally sent them a product with gluten, that Table 33 expected to be gluten free. Not realizing the error, Table 33 used it as part of a “gluten free” menu item and fried it in their gluten free fryer. Thankfully the error was caught before anyone was served but since they hadn’t been able to change out the oil, he let me know that the fried items couldn’t be done in their fryer. After hearing my disappointment, he kindly offered several other ways to prepare the chicken we’d ordered and it was AMAZING!
Moved by their attention to detail and excellent food!
This was a jewel find!!! Almost every single item on the menu was GF!!! I had chicken and waffles on the recommendation of our waiter. So good!!! It has been so long since I have had either. The chicken was juicy and perfect. It is rare that there is a place that puts this much care and love into their food- I am kind of a restaurant snob- but this place is over the top. They also use local food sources. I did over hear the chef discussing with one of the kitchen staff that they were considering discontinuing using GF flour. I really hope not, because it felt so good to be there today and not have to worry about cross contamination and have really great food. Thank-you for the care and excellent quality.
Had an amazing meal, this restaurant uses locally sourced ingredients & is willing to do anything to make you happy. The chicken & waffles were amazing, the breakfast sandwich is usually served on a croissant. The kitchen made it for us in really tasty gluten free bread & the fresh juices were delicious. I would happily drive an hour for another meal this good.
Very knowledgeable staff. Most items naturally gluten free and many others can be made gf.
This was our first time at Table 33 and I think I’ll be finding reasons to come back to Dayton just so I can eat here again! We had four gluten free and one gluten eater in our party. Three of us has celiac so safe food while on vacation is always a concern. We were not disappointed! We had breakfast and everything ordered was excellent! I mean, chicken and waffles!!! Do I need to say more?
Great tasting brunch, amazing coffee, and a nice selection of Dayton beers. I hesitate to say anything about their GF status, because it’s just a terrific restaurant, period. However, the menu is primarily GF. Rather than the exception, like most restaurants, GF is the default. My wife, who has Celiac, said it was great to feel normal at a restaurant!!
Yummy safe creative awesome food. And on top of the menu being 90% gf they believe in whole foods. They make it all from scratch...right down to the juices in your cocktails and the ketchup on your burger. And the interior is super cool too-with a bar and tvs and patio etc. Dayton is lucky to have you.
My Celiac daughter and I had an amazing lunch at Table 33. The chicken and waffles were amazing with a siracha maple syrup. We took some desserts home and they were also incredible. All GF! They do serve bread that was baked off site, but if tell the staff that you are Celiac, they are knowledgeable. Cocktail list is very original and I came back the next week for cocktails with a friend. Dayton needs places like this downtown. If you are Celiac run, don't walk to Table 33.
Oh my goodness. I was totally blown away by Table 33. The vibe and atmosphere is awesome, topped only by the amazing food. Our family was able to eat celiac safe with no issue. It was so fantastic to come and just order anything off of the menu. Can't recommend the breakfast tacos enough!
Not dedicated GF business - they COOK only gluten free but do have nonGF bread items for certain dishes. The contamination risk is extremely low. All GF items are marked on the menu. I went for dinner & returned for lunch the next day with no issue (I'm Celiac extremely sensitive). The pork tacos, brunch tacos, and vegan nana chip muffin were all amazing. Portions for the food are a little small so recommend getting a baked good or appetizer with your meal. Staff is really friendly and will answer any questions/concerns regarding food prep. I will be returning!
Great atmosphere if you enjoy a trendy setting. Great service. Coffee too strong for me and my friends. Tried the spinach artichoke quiche which was awesome! Also had some kind of pork tacos (3 tiny ones) which was more like an appetizer (not much food there). I wouldn't order them again; too many ingredients and flavors competing - like they couldn't decide what to put on it so they just put everything on there. I had enough to eat by ordering two items/meals. My friends each had single items and they both left hungry still (one person had quiche and the other had 3 tiny vegetarian tacos). Next time I'll get the chicken and waffles. The food was good but I felt awful from the coffee later (shaky, anxious, belly ache). Glad to have this option in Dayton. It was a bit pricey for the small portions but alright for a date or special meeting with friends or family. I will eventually go back again.
My husband and I went for breakfast while we were in town. He had a GF Waffle and I had breakfast tacos. Everything they make there is gluten free, but they do purchase croissants and burger rolls that have gluten. Overall, the cross contamination risk is very low. I would go back, there was a lot of things we wanted to try!
I love this place! I've eaten here twice with no problems. They use local, organic, non GMO, pastured and grass fed. They have carry out and eat in. Parking can be a problem but they are downtown and very walkable. M-F 7-7 and Saturday and Sunday 8-2. Everything they make in house is gluten free but they buy regular bread. First visit we had quiche with a crust and salad and muffins. Muffins very good, quiche best I've ever had and I make it regularly. They have meat and vegetarian quiches. Muffins we tried were cinnamon blueberry and banana chocolate chip. Today had oatmeal and chicken and waffles! The waffle was good but the chicken was outstanding! They have fresh squeezed juices, coffees etc. desserts include chocolate chip cookies, brownies, almond bars, Italian cake and specials.
