Tacky Jacks, situated in the heart of Gulf Shores, Alabama, proved to be more than just another restaurant; it was a sanctuary for someone seeking gluten-free options. Although they don't have a separate gluten-free menu, Tacky Jacks has demonstrated great attentiveness and genuine care towards customers with dietary restrictions.
As soon as I walked in, the friendly host walked me through the menu items, indicating what was gluten-free and what to avoid. The personalized service and detailed guidance made the entire ordering process easy and ensured a sense of safety for gluten-intolerant guests like myself.
The atmosphere of Tacky Jacks was inviting and lively, making it a great spot for families and groups of friends. The laid-back decor (and colored tape) and the soothing views of the canal lend a distinct charm to the place.
One fun, unique tradition that Tacky Jacks has is the "tacky tape." It's an engaging touch, allowing customers to leave a small message, a doodle, or simply a 'you were here' note on the walls or furniture. It was a delight to participate in this tradition and feel a part of Tacky Jacks' story.
A special mention goes to our server, Chin. Her energetic spirit and attentive service elevated our dining experience. Her knowledge of the menu and commitment to cater to dietary requirements made our visit enjoyable and stress-free.
The only reason for my 4-star rating instead of a full 5-star review is the lack of a separate gluten-free menu. As much as the staff was helpful, a dedicated menu would go a long way in assuring gluten-intolerant or celiac customers about their meal choices.
Nevertheless, Tacky Jacks offers a memorable experience with its mix of delicious gluten-free options, engaging atmosphere, and exceptional service. So, if you're in Gulf Shores, Alabama, make sure to drop by and don't forget to leave your mark with the tacky tape!
My waitress tried, but they definitely do not fully understand celiac here. The gluten-free menu was a small typed up paper with about 5 things total listed. I ordered a grilled mahi-mahi, which was supposed to come with steamed vegetables and rice. It came out with green beans (which were probably from a can) and no rice, as they then told me the rice contained gluten, and told me they would bring me more green beans. I asked for a salad, which then came out with croutons. I will say they were apologetic, and they offered to fix it, but I just said no thanks. I'll give 2 stars because of the kindness of the staff, but I would not recommend a celiac to eat here.
Celiacs, don’t go here. I made it real clear about not being able to have gluten and even spoke with the chef... my food still came out on a bed of French fries (not from a dedicated fryer) and with hush puppies. Side was supposed to be a baked potato. I sent it back, came back 2 minutes later with just the grilled fish. Obviously just replated it and didn’t make a new one. This place doesn’t take allergies seriously and the rest of my group said their food wasn’t even good anyways. Skip this place.
The food here was sub-par. I will say I did go at 8pm so I’m sure the crab legs may have been fresher had I gone earlier in the day. The meal was just ok. I will say I emailed them before hand and let them know some friends of mine and I were going to be in Gulf Shores for a girls trip and had planned on eating there. They were sweet to send me some the options they had. Very limited unfortunately.
Do not go here if you have celiac disease. They have a gluten free menu that is inaccurate. French fries listed as gluten free, but no separate fryer. I ordered a hamburger (no bun) and green beans. Hamburger tasted strange...don’t know if it had filler or not. Only ate one bite and sent the meal back. Green beans tasted like they came out of a can and had been warmed up over and over again. I didn’t eat anything while my dining guest ate his meal. I will never return to this restaurant.
We had a great experience here. There aren't a lot of gluten free options but the food we had was delicious. Bunless burgers, salad, steamed vegetables, and boiled new potatoes. Waitress was very friendly and they did have a gluten free menu.
The Host and our waitress were extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and super friendly. I got the flaky fish platter with the boiled new potatoes because the fries contain gluten. The food was very flavorful and filling. I had no stomach pain afterwards. I'm very satisfied and happy!
Not much too choose from for Gluten free The steamed shrimp was really tasty but the vegetables were gross
Possibly the worst experience I could’ve had. Our server, Dee, was very uneducated and kept naming off things I could have but then when I questioned what fryer it was cooked it she told me the same one as everything else. The gluten-free menu is very limited and half of the item on there are labeled as gf but are breaded with normal breading and fried in the same fryer as everything else. I got a ribeye steak and baked potato and the steak was awful. Do not recommend.
Fun little beach place! They had a menu that had all gluten free items highlighted. Many things to choose from. I got the shrimp and grits which was good for a bar food place! Very busy and very crowded. My guess would be that the chance of cross contamination would be high here but I felt find afterwards.
Our server, Andrew, was knowledgeable about allergens and very attentive! There was not a GF menu, but he said that since everything is made from scratch, they could make a lot of dishes gluten free. He also advised that I should avoid anything fried, because the fryer is used for everything and would be a source of CC. I had the shrimp and grits after Andrew confirmed with the kitchen that it was safe. It was delicious!
