Table server was great, able to answer questions about what was already or could be made gluten free, and knew what had shellfish or other allergens in the curry paste that couldn't be removed (all curries but green have shrimp paste). We ended up ordering pad Thai, pad see ew (both without fish sauce because of shellfish), coconut soup (gai tom kha) and egg rolls. I skipped the egg rolls assuming she just didn't warn us about them, but apparently they were really crispy. Coconut soup was excellent - huge mushrooms and chicken pieces but really creamy and sweet, just a tiny bit past our mild-ish spice tastes but definitely manageable.
This is a small strip-mall type of place clearly run by family or close friends, and they're able to accommodate dairy-free / shellfish-free / gluten-free or wheat-free, definitely vegetarian and vegan, and probably other dietary issues. It wasn't the best Thai food I've ever had, but I was much more comfortable that I wasn't going to end up miserable for days since the server could answer my questions so knowledgeably. We'd go back if we're in the area.
(Will update if I feel sick tomorrow or if I don't! )
I was diagnosed with celiac 6 months ago & this was my first time back. The waitress tried to be helpful & consulted the kitchen a number of times to make sure what I ordered would be safe. I ordered the Special Spring Rolls & Spicy Basil Chicken Fried Rice after being assured both would be safe. I tested each dish with my Nima Sensor & gluten was detected in the fried rice. They were very apologetic and didn’t charge me (I took it home to give to my son). I would be very careful eating here as a person with celiac.
Can't say enough about this place. Staff is very accommodating and wants to know what you need excluded to be safe (gluten and beyond, ex. Shellfish allergies etc). Can make a huge chunk of menu GF and have sampled quite a bit of it. #42 pad prik king and special spring rolls are top choices. Shared fryer so know that ahead of time for deep fried appetizers (they use rice paper for fried egg rolls, but not safe for celiac).
I’ve always loved taste of Thaiya and since going gf missed Asian cuisine so much. We finally called and asked and were told they use gf soy sauce so we ordered two pad Thais on the spot. They don’t have a menu to specify which items are gf but I’ll definitely be asking them what rice and rice noodle dishes are safe for more to select from!
Must ask for GF. Most of the time, they only use GF soy sauce but sometimes they run out. Very very good Thai food, have eaten here many many times and sometimes they have some consistency issues. They all do very well to avoid cross contamination. I'm celiac and eat here once a week, never an illness. Love this place. Just make sure to check they have the gf soy sauce, they do run out.
