On Wednesday, 11 July, I was glutened by this establishment. I had eaten food from here a few times when I first moved (takeout burgers) and never got sick. However the first time I went and sat down to eat... It was a disaster. I clearly ordered gf food and stated that it was due to an allergy, NOT a preference. The server brought gf crackers—they have a whole cheese and crackers thing. I ordered a gf burger and fries (my normal) and I also ordered the gf brownie sundae, as I had been wanting to try it. I requested that the sundae be brought with my meal as my mom and I were pressed for time. An individual who was NOT my server brought out the food: my burger, my sundae, and my mom's chicken ceaser with croutons. I started eating my burger and fries. The person who brought the food (again, NOT my server) came out with another sundae and apologized, stating that he had accidentally brought out a NON-gf sundae. Well people make mistakes, whatever! I hadn't started eating the sundae yet, so phew, good catch! However that made me question the rest of my meal. I had taken a couple bites of burger, and when my server came back I asked her if she was sure it was a gf bun. She replied, "nope that does not look like it!" My server then got Scott, the man who brought out my food and corrected the sundae, and he came over. He is apparently the manager of this establishment. He said that the server did not put my gf food in the system—which I find ridiculous, because otherwise how did he know the sundae was supposed to be gf? He comped the meal, which honestly there was no question that that should have been done—why the f would I pay for food that was going to make me incredibly sick?? They did offer to remake it. I had to explain that I was going to be extremely ill, however it is not immediate, and I did not want anymore food that they had to offer. They did not really seem very concerned, even though I was very adamant that I was going to be extremely sick. I feel like they did not care because I did not get sick in front of them. If I had an anaphylactic response in front of them, it would have been a HUGE deal. But because I had to wait to see the horrific symptoms, they kind of brushed it off. I would say eat here at your own risk. I think I had success with the takeout food because the hostess is the one who took my order over the phone. But I am mainly disgusted at their lack of empathy or sympathy about this issue. I did not feel that I could even speak to the manager about this because HE was the one who brought the food and HE was the one who blamed the server. So HE would not have been held accountable to anyone! So frustrated. Disgusting that they don't care about Celiac Disease or its repercussions.
Very aware of gluten free and very good selection!
Just had a wonderful, safe lunch there with two family members who have Celiac disease. Separate GF menu, delicious options, food came out on a plate tagged for allergies. We didn't get dessert, but the GF brownie sundae sounded amazing. Highly recommend!
Large gf menu - Had salmon and mashed potatoes-excellent!
Concord Common Man. Great atmosphere. Very nice, plentiful GF menu including baked onion soup, flatbread, pot roast and several seafood selections. The most delicious brownie sundae too. Impressed. Very busy Friday evening so kitchen was slower than usual but service was very good.
This review is for the rest stop locations. They don't clean the grill so if you order anything cooked then it's cooked on the same surface as the pancakes and gluten bread etc. all they had was a gluten free bun but nothing to put in it except boars head deli meats. Not great for a celiac toddler.
Amazing gluten free menu, great service, awesome food and atmosphere. Waiter was very helpful and knowledgable.
Just so grateful a rest area has gluten free burgers! Odd they don't list it on the menu but I asked and they do:)
The Common Man restaurants are always accommodating for gluten free options. At the new welcome center they added a diner and general store. I had a turkey sandwich on a gluten free roll. It was a great option on the road. They don't have a separate gluten free menu or they probably would have received 5 stars
They have a decent gluten free menu. The gluten free bread is cut up pieces of mediocre gf bread but I give them credit for effort. The gf steak tips were ok, cooked in a separate pan which is great for avoiding cc but missed the grilled taste. I would go back.
Amazing!! We went purely upon recommendations here and I am so glad. Wait was pretty long but they have the cutest lounge area where they offer cheese and crackers (good for my non-gf littles) and wine (for me!). Large selection of gf options, knowledgeable and friendly staff. I got the "almost escargot" and the smokehouse burger on a gf bun. Food was prepared separately, huge portions and absolutely delicious. They also have gf desserts! Can't wait to go back!!
Second time here....this place is fantastic. They go above and beyond with GF. First time had the pot roast dinner. This time had onion soup and blt flatbread (udis crust). Flatbread was cooked perfect. They even have two GF desserts and the white chocolate is GF too!!
when traveling it can be hard to find gluten free that's good. The Tilton Diner is part of the Common Man restaurants, it's great. Had a real burger on a grilled Udi's roll with a side of Cole slaw, awesome. Also ate at another of their places, Fosters Boiler Room, another great place!
This was one of the most gluten free friendly restaurants we've been to. My son has celiac and they even brought UDIs bread for him with our bread basket!! Our waiter Rick was amazing!! Super nice guy & we arrived very late after traveling, at the end of his shift & you would have never known. Thank you! We will definitely be back!
I went with my Celiac 10 year old. They have lots of choices. They have complementary GF crackers to put with the cheese spread they provide. That is New England style for you. It was great. He got a burger with a bun, side Caesar salad and a huge GF brownie sundae. The fries have a cross contamination issue but it was very good.
We had a great dinner here with our two kids (one of them our 9 year old daughter with celiac). Our daughter had the burger with gf bun and mashed potatoes. They brought GF bread to the table when we sat down. The waitress was very knowledgeable and knew all about celiac, I barely had to explain. Thank you to other for your positive reviews recently, this is exactly why we stopped here!
We had a great dinner and experience at this restaurant. My husband and daughters who are not gluten free were very happy with their dinners and I who has had celiac for 15 years was very happy with their separate gluten free menu. I had pot roast with gravy, mashed potatoes and carrots-- delicious. I also splurged on the torte. Delicious again. The waitress was very helpful... thank you!
Everything was awesome! Waitress was so friendly. Home fries are gluten free, as well as my French toast! So they have bread and buns (udi's) available! Was busy, but the service was fast regardless and food was wonderful! So many options, only downside is no GF batter, but still delicious!
I have Celiac Disease and my family and I stopped on the way back from the White Mountains to CT. Fantastic GF menu (steak, fish, shrimp, chicken) choices at reasonable prices and the staff and cooks got it! I had mussels in a delicious broth that came with GF bread with a toothpick marked "allergy". Also shared polenta ragout with chicken added with my hubby which was excellent. Would have ordered a GF dessert (brownie sundae, creme brûlée or almond torte) except I am stuffed! Non Celiac family members had pork sliders and chicken pot pie and loved both. Will definitely go back!
Amazing GF (celiac aware) staff and plenty of options on the GF menu. One thing I really like is that they have GF alternatives to fries that are actually yummy (sometimes I get tired of side salads!). Even GF dessert options!! Would recommend to any celiac friends.
2014: The Common Man has a gluten free menu with a lot of selections. I had a farm truck salad and roast chicken and it was all delicious. Please note that the GF menu on their website is a little out of date, but there are lots of choices. The non-GF members of the group were also very happy. 2015: I went back twice in Summer 2015 and had a great experience both times. The Pot Roast is gluten free, including the gravy and was delicious! Highly recommended!
Server was super duper sweet! Manager sweet as pie. However the food was awful! Awful! The atmosphere was adorable old New England but the food was cooked in the same era. Manager very kindly took food off the bill for us. We ran away as fast as our feet could take us.
Although they don't have a gluten free menu, the business manager was very knowledgable! He went through the whole menu with me identifying every dish that could be gluten free and there were many options. He then outlined how the kitchen would handle my order to prevent cross-contamination. I also ended up with a waitress that has many family members with celiac disease. Probably not a coincidence, but it was wonderful reassurance that I would be well taken care of!
Had dinner here tonight after our five-mile hike up Red Hill and not only was the place delicious but the servers were all incredibly friendly and very helpful when it came to me having celiac. They have a separate gluten-free menu with a variety of options, and if you're like me and like salmon but not maple, they will work with you to create your own dish; I had salmon with lemon and veggies. They also made sure to let me know what was gluten free on everyone else in my parties plate incase I wanted to try, and that all of their dips were gluten free if I wanted to sample. Would go back again!
