They tried to gluten/poison my wife who had carefully ordered from the dedicated GF menu. The waiter made a big deal about how careful they are with allergies, but then they brought her a burger on a regular bun, even though the burger had been flagged with a little stick to denote a gluten-free item and despite the fact that the food runner said it was GF when he brought it to the table. Thank goodness my wife noticed the similarity between her bun and mine, although it was only after she had already taken a big bite. They brought her a new burger (which she thoroughly enjoyed), but the waiter seemed offended and put off that we were upset and worried about her health. Ruined my appetite. We should have known to be more careful after he messed up our drink order, brought the wrong fries, and included onions on my order when I had told him I didn't want onions. After all of this, the waiter very reluctantly comped my wife's meal saying, "I will pay for it personally," as if he was trying to make my wife feel guilty about having been the victim in this situation. Comping her meal seemed like the absolute least he could do. We did not tip (that is a first for us) and we will never be back.
We were so excited to come here as a surprise bday lunch for our son, on the way to the Peterson car museum. The Counter closest to us at home closer down during 2020 😭I got a gluten free burger. My boys shared a s’mores shake. My husband and sons enjoyed their lunches too. Our waitress was great! I didn’t give 5 stars because of an initial lack of communication regarding waiting for the shake. We asked a couple times/our waitress told us it was coming. She kept apologizing and was busy. It was not her fault. Finally we learned the gas had been shut off and the chefs/bartenders were scrambling trying problem solve etc. We weren’t the only ones waiting for shakes. He prepped 5 at once but they didn’t get made immediately. We asked to take ours to go bc we didn’t get it until we were almost done eating. It didn’t look like a s’mores shake imo. I didn’t see any chocolate. My boys loved it and that’s what matters. The Counter will always be a favorite of ours! Great food, variety of options, good service & fun environment!
They have a completely separate gf menu and vegan menu. Staff was knowledgeable and the fryer is gluten free for fries. I saw another review that says they aren't gf fryers but that's not the case so far as I can tell. Maybe they changed it... either way, I am a very sensitive celiac and didn't have any problems!
So the reviews were mixed but I went here last night to take a chance. I was happy to see the separate gluten free menu. My waiter was knowledgeable and answered questions. Since I built my own burger, I was able to write “celiac” and “dairy allergy” specifically on my ticket that went to the kitchen. They assured me the fryer was separate. The food was good although the bun did start to break apart a little. Most importantly, I didn’t get sick. It’s a little pricey but this is LA. I’ll definitely order again.
We ate here yesterday and I was SO nervous! My 5 year old twins have Celiac and have a severe reaction to gluten which is why we rarely eat out. I researched ahead of time and took a chance on this restaurant. I realized the poor reviews were from several years ago and there was one excellent, detailed review within the last few months. I was also nervous because we were a party of 9 and I always worry about overwhelming a server when I have such specific requests. Anyway, our lunch was phenomenal!!! My Celiac girls both had mini burgers on gluten free buns (one GF bun cut in half) and FRIES! They love fries and I never order them for fear of cross contamination but the server promised me there was a dedicated gluten free frier and everything turned out great! This restaurant absolutely made our day!!!
I have celiac and this location has burned me over and over again (I've had good luck at other locations) after I gave them way too many chances.
The last time I will ever go here I got a burger with no bun and no fries. How in the **** do you screw that up? I don't know but I was instantly sick. Yes, I specified I have a severe allergy.
Other locations have been good to me. This one always screws me. Stay the heck away. This place should NOT be marked as celiac friendly. Maybe they were once, but no longer.
So yummy. Great gluten free bun, plus if you ask them for a gluten free specific menu and they don't have it, they will print one up for you. You have to be careful with the meat patties, only the turkey patty and beef patty are gluten free. I was going to order the vegan veggie patty, but it's not gluten free. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Build your own burgers and lots of gluten free shake options!
Not good. I went there years ago and had no reaction, but recently I went and got an impossible burger on a gluten free bun with a side of fries. Initially, I wanted to get the vegan veggie burger because meat affects me so I asked if it was gluten free and the server went to check. When he came back he said “it has soy in it so it’s not gluten free” I was super confused and said soy didn’t have gluten and he responded “ok but it does though”. So that was off putting and I wasn’t warned the fries didn’t have a dedicated fryer which I should’ve asked but didn’t think to because I didn’t have a reaction the first time I went. Unfortunately, I ended up getting very sick. I would avoid this place if you have any allergies or celiacs because not only is the staff somewhat rude, but the food will probably give you a reaction.
