Fries are gluten free depending on the day. Always ask. Knowledgeable manager at Cal Ave in Palo Alto location told me they share a fryer with gluten on some days and some days not. They clean the fryer out nightly. Gf buns amazing.
I used my Nina on the bun and sweet potato fries- they tested positive for gluten. I specified that I had a gluten allergy and to be careful about cross contamination.
Great tasting food! One option for a gf bun and it's typical and not soft and doughy, but they have a decent separate GF menu! Otherwise, get your meal as a salad bowl with all the fixings and toppings you can have. A big portion and filling. Not cheap, but food around here is anything but. However, I feel like it's worth it at this restaurant. This is not fast food. But they still are pretty quick. If you're a burger eater, or chicken tender fan (not GF), this is delicious food. Also, kitchen has a dedicated GF area so no chance of cross-contamination. Usually a very busy place. Regular and sweet potato fries are really yummy. Onion strings are to die for. Literally, if you're GF. But ate them once anyway knowing I'd be paying dearly later -.- !! Full bar, too. Kid friendly with kid-menu. Amazing shakes. Can't go wrong here. Mtn View location is a lot bigger than the Palo Alto one, and I prefer the Mtn. View location, with smaller lines and way less cold. Thumbs up!
Had a hamburger bowl that was really good. Manger's very familiar with celiac and they have GF buns. Fryer is dedicated but they were very honest and said that the non gf fryer was right next to it and it could splatter and cc. I really appreciate their honestly.
Gluten free menu. My favorite burger place!
My first time here, visiting from the Midwest and the food was great! The GF menu had a good selection to choose from. I had the build a burger and sweet potato fries! I will definitely go back. 😃
I LOVE being able to get a glass of wine with my burger. And to have it in a bun?!? Yes Please!! But at the Counter? No thanks. The buns are dry and brittle, every time. If Im ginna have a lettuce wrapped burger, I'll head over to In n' Out. The service is decent, and the other food options are ok. I bit on the pricey side. I'll go to The Counter as an easy option with friends.
Good food, good service. Wish they had a GF beer, though.
The veggie and grilled chicken are gluten free and you can make special requests. I love this place. Had the GF bun once...like most GF bread it was dry as a brick so I stick with the salad bowl option instead.
Great awareness of gluten free; hamburgers, buns!, fries, simply wonderful.
Not only can you get a great gluten free burger on a gluten free bun but they use a separate fryer for their frys so for the first time in years I "had frys with that"! The burger was very tasty and juicy, the frys crispy and the selection huge. I had no reaction at all after eating here and I can be sensitive to cross-contamination so they must be doing something right. Thank you guys for letting me indulge in frys again!
Some places make such a big deal out of accommodating people with special dietary needs, it’s nice when you find a place that gets it right. Gluten free buns for their delicious build your own burgers, tons of topping options, vegan burger and cheese options, and a dedicated gluten free fryer. I had a delicious bison burger on gluten free bun with goat cheese, onion, grilled pineapple, bacon, and avocado with a side of sweet potato fries. Best meal I’ve had in a long time and was not made to feel like it was any problem to accommodate my needs.
Absolutely delicious and safe!! Definitely go between 3-6 if you can to avoid the busy times. I got the grilled chicken with bacon/cheddar/avocado/ranch, SO GOOD. Chose no bun, though the GF bun looked good. Will definitely come again and hope to see some in the Midwest!
Just came back from a mission trip in Cuba. Had to carry all my food. Hadn’t eaten any real food in a week. They have GF hamburgers and FRIES. Saved my life. Rosemary knows her stuff. She has done some study on GF
Delicious but I got super sick within an hour. The waiter didn’t seem to be paying a lot of attention, I shouldn’t have trusted. I’ll try again if I’m starving but I’d give them a thorough talking to and not trust unless I get full attention
Had a burger on gluten free bun and Rose helped me with GF toppings. Did not get sick. I have celiac.
so happy to find this place! Rosemarie, the hostess, walked me through the menu, crossed off everything I could not eat. they have a separate fryer for French fries and gf buns for burgers.
Knowledgeable staff, great burgers and dedicated fryer. A rare find for airport food!
Staff is knowledgeable. I ordered fries because I know other The Counter spots have a dedicated fryer. But since i wrote “Celiac/gluten allergy” on my order, someone called me and told me their fryer isn’t dedicated because their kitchen is too small at this location. I really appreciated them calling to tell me.
Peggy crossed all the gluten items off the menu for me. I was able to build my burger to my liking. Even the fries were safe.
I have CD. I requested and received the Gluten-free menu. I ordered a GF sandwich and made sure they knew it was the GF version. When I received the sandwich, I asked again if it was GF because it looked like regular bread- The waiter assured me that it was. It was not. I got sick shortly after I began eating. They blamed the business of the restaurant on the kitchen and waiter's error. While they were highly apologetic, what if I had an allergy instead of CD? Never going back.
I’ve eaten here 6 times over last 2 months, and have never had a reaction. I’ve a very, very sensitive Celiac sufferer. GF burgers, buns, fries are all available. Including GF alcoholic beverages, such as angry orchard in bottles. Don’t try Omission Beer (NOT celiac friendly), and I haven’t ordered milk shakes due to possible cross-contamination. Staff is learning about celiac. Many, many options available. Good parking available in garage in back- enjoy!
The gourmet burgers were very delicious. They serve the burgers on GF buns and we shared a GF batch of fifty fifty fries. (Half shoe string fries and half sweet potato fries).
I loved the burger, you can male your own burger with gluten free bread. They also have orchard thieves which is my favorite kind of cider. We paid 38€ for 2 burgers, 3 ciders and sides. 4 stars because they don't have any gluten free dessert (only ice cream but who wants ice cream with this cold?)
Amazing gluten free menu! My Coeliac husband was not unwell after eating here. Server knew exactly what was gf. We didn’t like the drinks we ordered and they kindly swapped FOC. Above and beyond here. Make sure you time your visit before the lunch/dinner rush as it does get busy.
Went here twice while in NY. So happy to have a safe burger and fries! The fries are very thin and very crispy and some of the best fries I have ever had. So nice to be able to build my own burger too with tons of GF options. Great to have the option of a lettuce option as a wrap if you avoid grains. Staff was helpful and knowledgeable both visits. Would for sure go back.
I'm pretty sure they don't even know what gluten is. Also I received an attitude and felt judged for even asking about a gf menu or buns. I have celiacs and felt unwelcome to order anything at all. This restaurant should not be presented as a gf option at all.
I choose this place because they did have a separate gluten free menu along with a build your own burger menu for gluten free, it's one of the few places that had this. my boyfriend got the Mahi Mahi burger, however he was not a fan of the bun, but it wasn't the worst.
Terrible experience. I was very clear about my allergy and my grilled cheese came out on gluten-filled Texas toast. I asked if it was gluten free and the server said "it's just bread and cheese, so yeah". I only knew this was not gf because I had been to a different location before. I said I need gluten free and he was surprised I needed my bread to be gluten free. I am still in shock. When my gluten free grilled cheese came out, it wasn't cooked at all. Just cold cheese on a bun. The sweet potato fries were cold also. This location is an embarrassment to The Counter franchise. The location in NYC has always exceeded my expectations.
Seems like this place has the potential to be safe, but there was a nearby concert this evening and a huge influx of customers trying to eat topped with only three waitstaff...they were overwhelmed. My "gluten free" dish I ordered off the gluten free menu they specifically brought to me came out with the same type of bun the rest of the family got...obviously not gluten free. I sent it back and it came back out just a few minutes later on a gluten free bun...obviously cross contaminated. Unfortunate as we had already waited over a hour for our food.
Hostess extremely knowledgeable on GF options, which are plentiful.
