One of the few dining places in the area that identified gluten-free items on the main menu. I visited twice for lunch. They immediately recognized my requirements when I indicated I was celiac and, without prompting, confirmed my meal was gluten-free, both when taking the order and presenting the food--always comforting to know that special needs have been heard and understood. The fish pie was laden with large pieces of salmon and shrimp/prawns. It melted in the mouth, though would have benefitted from the addition of some more herbs or spices. The fish and chips were a delight. The fish was flaky, the batter light, and chunky chips and mashed peas were a tasty accompaniment. My companion declared the tartare sauce was the best she had ever tasted. They also serve a good cup of coffee, both in the restaurant and the bar.
One companion had mobility issues and was unable to negotiate the stairs to the upper level of the restaurant. Since all of the main-level seating was occupied they kindly accommodated us in the bar. The tables there were clean but sticky (though it seemed to be from de-laminated finish rather than spilled drinks).
