I have had plenty of donuts and sweet treats from the Difference Baker. This time around, I wanted to try a sandwich. I can’t recall the exact name of it, but it was a spicy turkey sandwich and I give it a 10 out of 10! The bread didn’t “taste” GF and it was lightly toasted perfection!
So grateful to have found a spot to stop and grab a quick lunch while out! Did not know that was something I could have as a recently diagnosed celiac. Am absolutely thrilled to have found this place. Sampled a bit of everything. Mac and Cheese is incredible. The Kreme donut was unreal / I never thought I’d get to eat a good donut again. Will absolutely be back soon!
I’m so grateful to have a local dedicated gluten free bakery close by! Truly spoiling me so much! I pick up their vegan biscuits alllll the time to make a killer dairy free egg sandwich at home. Really appreciate their hot to go menu for a great lunch, and frozen meals as well! Their pop tarts are amazing, my favorite is the cinnamon.
The entire establishment is gluten-free. Many, many vegan options!! Clearly labeled!! Facility is also free of the top 9 allergens!!
I have seriously enjoyed nearly everything from here.
Their cinnamon rolls are hands down the BEST GLUTEN FREE CINNAMON ROLLS I HAVE EVER HAD! Not dry like so many I have had in the past! Bonus, they are also vegan!!
Will be back.
We live nearby so we have bought many things from TDB over the years. I have ordered cupcakes several times and a birthday cookie cake online. In person, I have bought fresh doughnut holes, fried chicken tenders, and fries (which remind me of McD's!). From the freezer, I have bought mini bundt King cakes for Mardi Gras, pretzel bites, and pretzel hotdogs. All have been excellent and we had zero reaction.
We are very sensitive to cross contamination (bloating, digestive issues, etc; possible celiac but never tested) and also very intolerant to dairy. There are some things with dairy but everything is clearly marked. Some items can be made with dairy free cheese, although not sure what brand they use if that is a concern for anyone. My son, who has the same intolerances I do, is about to go to George Mason for engineering, and we were both thrilled to learn that TDB has a space in the engineering building although they are closed on weekends so we didn't get to go inside during admitted students day.
There really are only two things to consider when planning to go to TDB: hours and seating. They do have limited hours at Ashburn and more limited at GMU. Regarding seating, I honestly can't remember if there might be one small table inside in Ashburn but if there are a lot of people waiting for orders, it could be crowded since the customer space is not very large. I don't recall seeing any seating outside, although they do have sidewalk space so maybe one day they will have a couple of tables and chairs in the future.
The crumb cake was stellar, the meat lovers Stromboli and pretzel hot dog were both major winners. We didn’t really like the cinnamon roll though. If you aren’t vegan, and love cream cheese frosting I would avoid the cinnamon roll. The lemon cake was ok.
Also note: no indoor seating. If it is raining you have to literally sit in your car while you wait for your hot food. But they are lovely and happy to bring it out to you in your car.
My kids demand we MUST go back next time we are in dc for the pretzel dog and the crumb cake
I’m completely nut-free with gluten intolerance and my boyfriend has celiac—we LOVE this place!! 15/10, great service—the only thing I would change are the hours. Closed just too early! I hope they send their goods to more cafes. We need more of these in Ashburn and Leesburg.
I used to drive 40 minutes for their paleo buns and brown sugar pop tarts. First, they stopped making the paleo buns and strung me along for 6 months, promising they’d bring them back. Today, they discontinued the brown sugar pop tarts (they claim until Fall). Needless to say I won’t be back anytime soon (if their sense of timing about the paleo buns holds for the brown sugar pop tarts.
The products in store are different from what is ordered online. I love their cheddar chive biscuits because I miss eating garlic cheddar biscuits at Red Lobster. During the holidays, they offer special online pre-ordering for family pies, and they're all delicious! Love the pumpkin pie and the apple crumble. They sell empty pie shells and pizza shells so you can make what you want. They also offer dinner rolls that are so good that family can't tell they are GF I also enjoy the vegan biscuits, and the mini cupcakes are moist and delicious. The cinnamon rolls are SO good! I will continue to visit and order online.
I’m visiting from Florida and found this bakery when looking up GF pizza places. As I’m writing this I’m having one of their cinnamon rolls which is amazing! And their prices are much more reasonable than the one back home. Luckily for my waistline, it’s not closer to me! Definitely will return whenever I visit.
We have enjoyed all the food we have purchased! Dedicated GF facility with friendly staff and wonderful knowledgeable owner. We love the seasonal specials and they are always open to thoughts of what their next new item could be. Some favorites of ours are: their carrot cupcakes, biscuits, jelly donuts, pop tarts, egg sandwich, waffles.
Probably the best bakery I’ve been too. They do everything! I really don’t know how they are able to pull off so many delicious gluten free options but they do. These were the first GF cinnamon buns I had and it was an incredible experience! This place rocks!
