Not a bad option for the area
This diner is fine but for the same price you could have the fresh, classy food of Over Easy. I have Celiac Disease and while this place is gluten friendly and do their best to prevent cross contamination, the only options that would work for celiacs are those that are in a separate skillet. The oatmeal pancakes are made from gluten free oats but they are only willing to cook them on the griddle which is shared with gluten containing items. Also, the hollandaise sauce is not made fresh and does contain gluten. I ordered the corned beef hash without hollandaise sauce and the English muffin, with my eggs over easy and a side of dressed greens in place of the English muffin. The food was good but typical good diner food. The dressed greens were dressed with a lemon vinegarette made fresh onsite. I guess I should mention that we were not expecting a diner. My husband had been to an Egg and I in Alabama and raved about it. We didn't realize that it wasn't the same as that Egg and I in Alabama, which we should have been clued in by the use of the and sign in this Egg & I. My husband had the Athena Scramble which he said was good. Personally, we will probably be going to Over Easy, which we love, more than here but this is definitely a decent place and the staff seem knowledgeable despite claiming it's only celiac friendly.
They have a GF pancake. Looks like its a new item. Very delicious!
They have a "gluten friendly" menu and like most places it's not a huge menu. But the staff usually know about gluten and celiac and are very helpful when ordering. I've never gotten sick here.
The egg & I is a breakfast place that was just wonderful! They have 13 full options for unique breakfast combinations (thankfully you don't have to order al a carte). The eggs were cooked correctly and super hot. We tried two dishes and they both hit the spot! Even for lunch. The staff was extremely helpful coming to double and triple check with us that they were doing everything they needed. Ask for Michelle she is great!
I really had to coach and educate the waitress on what gluten was... They have a "gluten friendly" menu and she interpreted (and was told by her manager) that it was a guide for those who want to reduce calories. I informed her on what Celiac Disease was and what we can/cannot eat. I ordered the Garden Frittata with fruit and it was very tasty... I didn't get sick and I'll be back.
Friendly atmosphere and easy to read gf menu. Not a huge selection, but what they have is very tasty.
While The Egg & I has a gluten "friendly" menu, you really must take to heart their caution that "The Egg & I Restaurant is not a gluten-free environment and cross-contact with ingredients containing gluten is a possibility." My daughter tried one of their gluten free plates (scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes) and still got very ill. Be cautious.
Great place with friendly atmosphere. A nice selection on their gluten free menu!
I had a great experience here. My waiter knew a lot about gluten sensitivities and celiac and helped me pick my meal safely. He said the only salsa that was GF is the green salsa. Also let me swap out my toast for fruit, no charge.
There was a variety of gluten free items to choose from. Corned beef hash & eggs was my choice! Was good. Just wish the menu included pancakes or French toast, too.
Eaten here a few times without issue, but each server has varied knowledge of GF. Limited GF options, but a nice breakfast.
My family always loved this restaurant! When I started eating gluten free I had casually crossed it off the list of "safe places". We eventually went there anyways thinking I could just order eggs and bacon, no sides. The waitstaff was amazing! They allowed me to switch out gluten items (toast or pancakes) for fresh fruit with no additional charge. They also took special care not to contaminate my food. Just mention that you have an allergy and they are awesome to work with you!
Egg & I is franchised, so ask at each location what the GF choices are. In my experience, the Fort Collins College Ave location has the most options, but I've been happy with the Fort Collins Oakridge, Loveland and Estes Park locations too. At the one on South College, the pork green chili is GF, so take advantage!
