Visited twice during our stay in Key Largo. I have celiac and got the yellow tail matecumbe with rice and beans. It was DELICIOUS! They understood allergies and I felt comfortable eating here after reading all the positive reviews. No stomach issues at all and would highly recommend eating here if you are in the area!
Great seafood and fish restaurant a short drive from the resort we stayed in for a night. Owner was very personable and attentive. He clearly wants everyone to be happy customers when they’re dining in his establishment.
We shared grilled mahi mahi and broiled scallops. Mahi mahi came with potatoes or rice, corn on the cobb and coleslaw. The scallops had one choice of side dish (I chose broccoli). I also got rice and beans on the side - because why not? I had leftover broccoli and beans and rice to heat up the next morning so it was a win win.
Everything was clearly marked on the menu as GF and the owner was knowledgeable.
Safe place for Celiac. I was greeted by the host/manager when I came in the door. I told him that I had celiac and asked about cross-contamination. He assured me they are very safe with gluten free orders and took me over to the cashier and wrote “top shelf” on my order ticket. Everything that is marked gluten free is baked in its own skillet and they put gluten free orders on the top shelf of the oven to ensure no gluten falls onto it. Very friendly and reassuring service.
Really great fish. I had the GF mahi-mahi grilled with black beans and rice + a virgin mango daiquiri.
The menu has GF items clearly marked and the staff are over the top helpful. The service was over the top.
Cost for two meals with 2 drinks was $65. Dress was casual, and the atmosphere was like a family owned restaurant. People were coming in and being greeted by name by the wait staff. It was a fun vacation spot.
Had dinner at The Fish House and it was so delicious. Carlos explained the menu, answered all of our questions and was very informative about gluten free option. I had the shrimp bundles (shrimp wrapped in prosciutto and baked) it was so good. I had the matacumbe which was also amazing. My husband had mussels followed by shrimp and scallops. I am celiac and am delighted to confirm no adverse reaction. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be back.
We loved the island vibes of this restaurant! We had to try it since it has been featured on tv. We got two starters- the famous Smoked Fish Dip and the Shrimp with Garlic Butter. Both were under seasoned. Maybe I had too high of expectations for the Smoked Fish Dip? It was good but not amazing. Most of our party got the Matecumbe style fish and it was delicious! I would highly recommend it!
Oh so yummy! I love smoked fish dip they have one on the menu that is not marked GF but only because they serve with crackers. I brought my own in hopes the actual dip was GF and it is. Several options and very knowledgeable. Felt very comfortable and food was excellent. We will definitely visit every time we are in the area.
Several gluten-free appetizers and entrees indicated on the menu. Not dedicated gluten-free, but they said everything boiled, steamed, and grilled were gluten-free. I had the Garlic butter shrimp appetizer, indicated as gluten-free. My entree was Matecumbe with Yellowtail snapper, also indicated as gluten-free, it was delicious!
They have GF options clearly marked on the menu. The server was helpful as I wanted to order a meal not marked GF. She said they sauce was not made in house so the restaurant cannot guarantee it is GF but the ingredients listed were safe. I ordered the meal and had enough to take home for lunch. No side effects or reactions. Delicious meal!
It was ok. I got the scallops wrapped in bacon and the cob salad with grilled shrimp. The waitress was very nice and went and asked if the blue cheese dressing was safe for me and it was. My salad came out with chicken on it but they took it back and gave me a new salad with the shrimp.
This has been one of the best places I have eaten since my diagnosis. Their menu is marked with gluten free options and our server was knowledgeable as well. I got the grilled yellowtail snapper with the black beans and rice. The angels on horseback appetizer was delicious as well and I had the coconut ice cream for dessert. Hoping to go back again!
Stopped here for lunch on our way to Key West. We ordered Angels on Horseback, which were bacon wrapped scallops. Super yummy. For entrees we ordered the yellowtail prepared metecumbe (their house specialty preparation) which I highly recommend. We also got the mahi mahi which was good but would have been better metecumbe prepped. Rice and beans were great! The lunch prices were very reasonable. Fun place and highly recommend.
Great food! They have 3-5 gluten free appetizers that are gluten free and a fair amount of entrees on the menu too. They don’t list blackened as gluten free out of an abundance of caution because they don’t make the blackened seasoning. I took my chances and went with blackened snapper. It was very good!
This place is a must in Key Largo. Food is delicious, GF items are clearly marked, waitstaff is very knowledgeable. I was in Key Largo 7 days and ate here 5 times ( a little embarrassing). You know us GF folks if we are traveling and find a safe place, you just keep going back. We ate lunch one day, and the other days, we went between 4-5pm for early dinner, never had to wait for a table. I had a Cobb Salad with Shrimp one day, Shrimp, Black Beans, Cole Slaw another day, Grilled Chicken, Grilled Shrimp. They Do NOT have a separate fryer, so fries are not an option. GF sides are red potatoes, Broccoli, Salad, Rice/Black Beans, Corn, Cole Slaw.
Beyond amazing and more then what I expected. The reviews were good so we trusted this place, and so glad we did . We loved old Florida vibe! The staff was super helpful, we ordered the Metacombe (mahi w/sautéed tomatoes capers and garlic baked ) and can't wait to go back ! My new favorite restaurant in the Keys!!
We ate here based on all the positive reviews and it did not disappoint. I had the Matacumbe flounder and it was very good. We also had the conch salad as an appetizer. The gf items were not marked on the menu, but the server was very knowledgable. He even marked it as an allergy on the ticket for the kitchen. There was a wait to sit outside even in the middle of the week, but we were able to grab a drink at the bar while waiting. Definitely felt safe eating here.
Wow the food was so good. I shared with the server I needed to have my food prepared gluten and dairy free. We ordered the broiled combo and the fresh catch of the day which was grouper with the matecumbe preparation (tomatoes, shallots, basil, capers, onions, lemon, and olive oil). I was so impressed and felt safe with the preparation. The menu was marked with GF and our ticket was marker gluten and dairy free. I did not get sick and if I were here longer, I'd likely choose to eat here again.
Had a great meal: mahi-mahi “matacumbe style” with black beans and rice and corn on the cob. It was delicious. Their coleslaw is not GF.
We got a great waitress who knew exactly what I could and couldn't eat. I think it was one of our best meals in Key Largo on our vacation.
