I was very impressed with the selection of gluten-free options during the afternoon high tea. They had gluten-free and vegan options and our server was very attentive to make sure there was no cross-contamination as I was dining with a friend who was not gluten-free. In addition, our server was just amazing. She offered to take pictures and was very prompt and always had a smile. I love the music that plays along with the afternoon tea and the price was very reasonable.
I went for tea. They were amazing. They did a great job after I called them ahead and then also talked to the server. The manager explained their kitchen precautions (separate prep station). There are not many gluten free tea treats and I did have to ask the server to bring mine on a separate plate. But the tea and GF sandwiches were great. They also brought fruit and sorbet to make up for the lack of pastry options. The GF scone was good. I also was with a GF, DF, low fodmap diner and they did their best to accommodate her. Overall, it's still an expensive experience for a celiac and you may find yourself craving a visit to Good Food bakery afterwards, but I loved the experience and I felt great after eating. Hands down my best GF high tea experience so far.
They are making an effort. The staff in Laurel try their best to accommodate with a few gluten free options. The breakfast menu offers some good options though with this caliber hotel, they really need to offer more options on the lunch and dinner menus and get a dedicated fryer.
I ordered gluten free online. When I got there, there was a gf scone waiting for me and clearly different normal scones for my kids so I thought “good, they know I’m eating gluten-free.” But then for the sandwiches and desserts, they bring different sandwiches for the kids than adults. I asked what was gluten free on the tower and she said only the macaron and the gum drop and I’m like uhhh so I basically can’t eat any of this? She said I could have fruit and sorbet but it would take 15 minutes. Then as I ate the sandwiches I was pretty sure they were normal bread… after 15 minutes she comes out with new sandwiches that are gluten-free 😒 I said “so I just ate a bunch of gluten?” And she said yes. So. If your sandwiches are not all thin white bread, you got normal gluten bread! Now you know if you go!!
Gluten Free High Tea! My family loves to celebrate special events with a tea party at the Grand America. I thought I would end up just drinking tea, but they made special GF sandwiches, cakes, and treats. Just let them know when you make a reservation.
