The fella in charge, JoJo, knew what was up. They have a whole system for allergens here. I was clear about my celiac-ness with the waiter. Then he informed the MoD (JoJo) who then checked with us about any and all allergies, to make sure none were missed.
Hell grill you, lol, so be sure to tell him the whole truth.
Seriously some of the absolute best service IVE ever had.
I got the crab cake and the steak lunch. Even the fries can be safe. The crab cake is GF by design!!!!
Fantastic choice for those with Celiac! When I asked the host if they had a marked menu or separate allegen menu the manager said- don't worry, we've got you and he was true to his word. Great choices, especially for the kids (GF fish and chips) and when they couldn't verify from the manufacturer that the ice cream was gluten free they brought her out a complimentary flourless chocolate cake. Best experience in DC and this is a city where waiters actually know about cross-contamination, which I haven't found anywhere outside of Rome, Italy.
The food here was wonderful! The items that were gluten free on the menu were marked clearly. They do state on the menu they DON’T have a separate deep fryer for gf only, and they do have a shared kitchen space. However! I have celiac and I didn’t get sick when eating here. Try the grilled cheese as an appetizer!! You won’t regret it!
Food was so outstanding we went back the next day. Ate lunch one day and dinner the next. They are super knowledgeable and accommodating. Flourless chocolate cake was amazing. The manager even recognized us on the 2nd day and treated us to desert. Excellent ice cream as well. You can tell it's locally made.
Gluten-free crab cakes. Do I need to say more? If you get them without the sauce, which they don’t need at all, they are also dairy free. Same with the Spicy Tuna Bites: GF and DF. They were both fantastic! I am not celiac, so I asked the GM about safety practices, and they can and will prepare anything in a separate clean skillet. And they grill their bread on a separate grill.
Service was not good, but they did have gluten free options marked on the menu. No GF buns. But she toldme the fries were fried separetely. Ver pricey for what you got.
Our server was very helpful and clarified lots of questions about CC (fries are fried in own fryer, they have calamari that is in a different fryer, but if there was another gF fried dish, they would fry separately in new oil. Also, the house potato chips are baked. I had fish and sweet potatoes. Also accommodated our sons nut allergy with equal caution. The manager came to speak with us as well to clarify our allergies. Food was tasty and no reaction from me.
FANTASTIC experience, the waiter knew what celiac was and explained that the fries were in a shared fryer, but had the chef and manager come out and said they will cook my meal (including fries) completely separate with clean everything. When the meal was ready (very quickly) the manager came out and ensured that the food was cooked completely safe and away from everything else. Even brought us free ice cream. I had no reaction and the food was delicious
Ate here based on other's reviews and I would say it was a mixed experience. We had a new waiter and he was great about going to the kitchen to ask questions/confirm if items were gluten free. I asked about the fryer and he said it was shared, I questioned him based upon reviews here and he double checked with the kitchen; only fries are made in the fryer. We had lamb skewers as an appetizer and I ordered a burger with no bun. Lamb was great but unfortunately the burger came out with a bun. Staff was very good at getting it remade (after I clarified I couldn’t just remove the bun) and were very apologetic. They brought me a small salad to eat so my date wasn’t eating alone and gave me free ice cream for dessert. I would go again but be very clear on things being gluten free.
The best gluten free meal I’ve had in a long time!!! GET THE BAKED CHEESE. REPEAT. GET. THE. BAKED. CHEESE. you will die a happy death. We loved it so much we even ordered it again for dessert. We had the bites for appetizer then the large crab cakes and sweet potato fries that were HUGE! All three of us are gluten free and we didn’t have any negative reaction. I would dine there again and again if I lived here. It’s not cheap. It’s a nice restaurant but we wore jeans and fit in fine. Go here!!!!!!
Ate at this restaurant this weekend. Although their menu labels things that are GF, when I told the waitress I had a gluten allergy she said that most of the things labeled GF are actually fried in a shared fryer. They were very knowledgeable and I didn’t get sick…but I was really disappointed by how many things were labeled GF that were actually not safe (almost all of the starches … twice baked potato, grilled sweet potato, fries…). It was frustrating to pick a restaurant based on the wide variety of GF good, only to find out it wasn’t safe!
FRYER CHANGE: fries no longer cut in house and the fryers are now mixed (fried with calamari and chicken tenders). That said, our waiter worked with us extensively to create a safe menu. Obviously, I'll update after eating it.
Had a stellar steak and eggs brunch. Staff was exceptionally knowledgeable- eg when i said no wheat, clarified if allergy or celiac, followed up with dairy free options as default.
