Not a lot to choose from, but items are marked gluten free. I got the chips, salsa, and queso for an appetizer and the Alabama Cobb Salad with shrimp. Didn’t get sick and waitress was knowledge about gf. I would visit again!

Limited menu options, but they are marked on the menu as GF. Waiter was knowledgeable about cross contamination as well. Ordered a salad and enjoyed the atmosphere. Safe place to eat at!

They have their menu marked with gluten free items, they don’t have many options but what they do are good! I had shrimp and a salad. They waiter was knowledgeable about gluten and I did not get sick from the food.

they have a separate fryer just for fries so there is no cross contamination with the french fries. waitress was kinda clueless at first which is never reassuring, but after explaining my needs i had no reaction to the food!

They have a dedicated French Fry fryer - not dedicated kitchen. Some other GF options as indicated on their menu.

Designated kitchen!!! Tell your server you have a gluten allergy and need your food prepared in the separate kitchen. Burger was delicious! They also have a great cobb salad- dairy free: ask for no bleu cheese. Very friendly servers and manager! Super pleased! I will return. (Also- try the Sangria… very good.)

Very limited menu. Was not impressed. Atmosphere was great but not for gluten free people. I don’t need to return

Nothing is really safe here, unfortunately. I’ve had reactions to the grilled chicken alone. I’ve ate here dozens of times and have tried everything and unfortunately protein-less salad and dressing is the only thing I’d recommend to another celiac. It’s very far from a gluten free kitchen, so be careful. Great for the family however.

GF items marked on menu. No dedicated fryer. Food was good. Bar was BUSY!
I think it depends on the night/ manager on duty how strictly precautions are followed which is scary.
There was a very limited selection...2 seafood dishes & cobb salad, plus a few appetizers. We had the hummus platter appetizer & asked if we could do bunless burgers with fries since the other options didn’t sound good. I had seen on the app that they have a dedicated fryer. Waiter seemed confused & had a snarky attitude about it. We ended up asking for the manager and getting a different waitress.

We were told the manager would personally run the food to keep it separate and safe for my son to eat.
Since most of it is seafood, there are a lot of options. My son doesn’t like seafood so we asked for a burger with no bun and the make sure it’s safe for him since he has celiac. The waitress was very kind and assured us that they would accommodate that even though it wasn’t marked as gluten free.
The atmosphere is so much fun! Very family friendly!

Had my heart set on the chicken nachos but unfortunately they must have changed the recipe and they are no longer gluten free. So back to a burger with no bun and green beans.
Food preparation process was explained to me. The waiter stated the managers prepare the allergy plates separately from the regular cooks. I ordered the Cobb salad. The manager brought my salad on a separate tray from the rest of my party's. There are some other GF items on the menu that include a lot of shellfish so I couldn't try those due to a shellfish allergy. Not a lot for a GF kid but a salad eating or shellfish eating celiac adult will find something. The atmosphere of The Hangout makes it a very popular choice in Gulf Shores.

The atmosphere is awesome for families and fun. The food that we had was really good as well. The downside was that there is not a separate gluten free menu and the kitchen has the possibility of a lot of cross-contamination. I did not get sick, but didn’t feel great after eating here. (Mainly because I picked a food that was more likely to be cross-contaminated, but went on their GF designation). If you are super sensitive to gluten I would caution eating here.
Long wait time but fun atmosphere. As for dairy free options they made us our own chips without contamination. Great staff.
Karl was extremely helpful and knowledgeable explaining menu items that were safe to order. He made sure to speak with the chef as well.
Manager guaranteed my Cobb salad would be handled carefully and he would take care of it himself to make sure. A random person brought it out with no utensils and 4 wrong dressing sitting on top and I have no idea what was in them or what they say on first. She barely understood English so I’m not sure she even knew what gluten free was. The boiled eggs tasted like bell peppers. Had to have waiter bring out the dressing and utensils and later to reassure me what I had eaten was safe he said that they, “dedicate part of the grill to gluten free foods.” Basically he served me bacon and who knows what else from a shared grill. Explains why I was sick within hours and vomiting all the next day. Plus, all of my kids said their popcorn shrimp tasted bad and didn’t eat it. Husband liked his food but his drink tasted weak. Atmosphere is cool, great view, but the noise is dense so it’s hard to hear.
Cross-contamination is highly possible since the grill is shared so this is not Celiac safe.
No
We were in Gulf Shores for a week and wanted to go to the Hangout. Their online menu had some indicators of gluten free options, including gluten free macaroni and cheese on the sides page. Gluten free pasta seemed too good to be true so I tried to call. They wouldn’t answer their phone after trying multiple times and letting it ring for a long time. So, I messaged them on Facebook. They replied back - the Mac and cheese is not gluten free but fries and chips are fried in a dedicated fryer. I then asked if they had gluten free buns and if they could confirm their queso was gluten free. I didn’t get a response to that question...they asked me to call them after I had already left the area. We didn’t end up going to the restaurant at all during our week there. Maybe I’ll be able to update this review next year.
I thought this place was great!!! Chips and fries are the only items that go in a dedicated fryer so I could have the chicken nachos for an appetizer. I had the Alabama Cobb salad and my daughter who is also Celiac had the crab. Yeah, a lot on the menu is not listed as gf but my guess is things like the burgers could be gf w/o bread. Even if not - the food that was marked gf was excellent as it was. There is a great view and a ton of entertainment (games, foam party, live music) for families. So glad we went. We had a blast.
There were not a lot of Gluten free options especially if you do not like sea food. I got the Atlanta Cobb salad. It was not bad. I felt like it was a little pricey. The waitress was sure helpful and went to check to make sure things were Gluten free. They just released a new menu.

Prices are high for what you get. View is amazing. That’s really what you’re paying for, the atmosphere, not the food. Not a lot of gf choices, but better than none. I had catch of the day. Went off season for lunch and didn’t pay for parking, no wait, no loud music.
I ordered the Grilled chicken and it was absolutely amazing! I did not have any reactions! However, they don't have very many GF options and will not let you exchange your fries with another side. I would recommend ordering a grilled chicken kids meal so you can get the veggie of the day as a side for free.
Yes
Loud, overcrowded, paid parking, and overpriced food. We weren't impressed at all with this restaurant. If you go to the hangout, it should literally be just to hangout not to eat a meal.
I had the chicken nachos and it was delicious. The portion size was huge (for $15.00) it should be! I didn't have any reaction afterwards which was a relief. My only complaint is that it is a family establishment however my step son who is nine was looking and young girls with thongs on and butt cheeks hanging out of shorts. I get we are on the beach but a cover up while you are inside eating is just my opinion.
Yes
Very very good !! I had the lemon pepper chicken and it was delicious!!
The lemon pepper chicken with mashed potatoes and salad was excellent. Had it twice during my Gulf Shores visit. Love all the allergy friendly restaurants in Gulf Shores. Just FYI..Allergic to gluten, corn, peanuts and soy...
Menu items clearly labeled GF, so if you stick to what's labeled you'll be fine. Drinks were OK, we got the chips & salsa and The Big Chill. It was a bit over priced for what we got, not the best but probably not the worst either!
The menu has Gluten Free items indicated however the Gluten Free meals come with sides that are not Gluten Free, example being that unless a separate fryer is used to cook the fries they are definitely not Gluten Free. The wait staff was not very knowledgeable about Gluten Free . You need to be aware and just do your research before dining out. Great atmosphere though.
Great atmosphere, super kid friendly with sand put, tunnels, live music and foam party. Limited gluten free options but great food! Don't miss this spit in Gulf Shores.
Menu has items listed with gluten free badge to indicate if it's gluten free or not. Although very crowded during peak season, the food was delicious and the waiter explained that because of cross contamination in the frier, anything fried is not listed as gluten free, even if the ingredients are. Good food, great atmosphere. Definitely should stop by.
