I can't believe I've never reviewed this place before. We living in Arlington and this is our go to place for gluten free bakery items as it close and pretty good. We tend to prefer their savory goods to their sweets but their holiday sweets tend to be better than just their everyday sweets, at least that we have tried. We often order their chicken pot pie or lasagna for dinner and pick up crepes for lunch. We order a pie and their brioche rolls for holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Today we had their special Valentine's Day picnic basket and though it was quite costly, it was well worth the money spent. Everything in it was exquisite and definitely made our holiday special. We ended up having a picnic on our apartment floor but with candles instead of overhead lights it felt very romantic. It came with a nice basket and towel and some of the items came in glass jars which made it very understandable about the cost. I'll definitely be reusing those items around my house. I particularly loved the roasted red pepper walnut dip and the fig/brandy/vanilla jam. My favorite of the desserts was the s'mores cup but my husband's favorite was the passion fruit pudding cake cup. We also ordered the triple berry mousse heart and the Mayan mousse heart. We both really liked the triple berry mousse heart but the Mayan mousse heart had a bit too much kick in it for us.

Everything is GF! It was so delicious, I went back 2x in one week. I will absolutely go out of my way to stop at the Happy Tart again. I’ve tried their savory crepes, sweet crepes, and various pastries. Absolutely loved the Apple caramel crepe, eclair and apple turnover. Wow - truly amazing!

This is by far the best bakery I have ever tried! I have Celiac and it's awesome that everything is gf so I do not have to worry about cross-contamination. But honestly even if I didn't have to eat gf I'd keep coming here because it is THAT good! Everything I've tried I've loved but the cupcakes are my favorite.

I’ve been to alot of gluten free bakery/cafes and this is the least impressive one I can recall going to. The lunch food isn’t very mediocre, the chicken pot pie was pretty lame, there were virtually no veggies in it and the crust just tasted like shortening. The cookies are the worst I have had at a gf bakery, they also taste like heavy shortening. Also no refills on the ice tea and it comes in a small glass for a large price. The only thing I have had here that was decent was the Petite Flor. Wouldn’t recommend, very limited dine in menu and nothing exciting to choose from. Much better bakery/cafes out there.

Excellent in every way. Brunch is delicious with omelets, crapes, waffles, and more. Perfect pot pies! Pastries are amazing. Gluten free gingerbread house kit during Christmas time was spot on. Mother’s Day high tea was a special treat!

Dedicated GF restaurant. Over all a very nice place, but seating is a little limited at busy times. The baked goods and sweets are good. The food is also good. The only downside is the biscuits are so so, but I know it’s so hard to make biscuits that replicate that flaky soft dough so I cut them lots of slack.

This is actually my favorite place to go for gluten free food. The whole FACILITY is GF. They do savory chicken pot pies, pecan pies, and soups — and of course their sweets are off the chainwax.

I love that there is a dedicated GF place 15 minutes away. We like their cookies, cupcakes, and cakes. Last week, I got quiche which was the best I've ever eaten! That being said, we find their pecan tart and apple turnovers to need a better balance between crust and filling---way too much crust or not enough filling.

Unfortunately, even though they are open until 6:00 PM, the kitchen closes at 2:30. Also, I think the customer service at the register could be much more friendly and hospitable.

I was so excited to find out about this place being so close to my grandmother's. My wife and I went on Valentine's day for lunch/brunch. She got the beef pot pie and I got the biscuits and gravy. At first both were a little salty but not inedible. The biscuits and gravy came with two biscuits and the second one was beyond salty. Her accompanying salad was also not dressed. I honestly would have given this place one star but my wife surprised me with their spicy Mayan mousse cake. Now that was AMAZING! We ended up going back two days later to try again. She got the sun-dried tomato omelet and I got the funghi crepe. My accompanying salad did come with dressing but her accompanying biscuit was not my taste. She liked it but growing up in the deep south I might be more particular about my biscuit. Overall though the crepe was amazing. I'll be back for the crepe and desserts but maybe not on a weekday. We got a couple of chocolate chip cookies as well after all the reviews mentioned these as a standout.

Dedicated gluten free. So nice to be able to order literally anything. I got an eclair and tiramisu, both were delicious. Then I got the pancakes and eggs, they reminded me of a diner breakfast, so yummy. There was a long line to order when we went (Sunday at 11), but the food came out fast.

I love this place! Dedicated gluten free. Great breakfast/brunch menu with lots of options. Order at the counter; they bring it to your seat when it’s ready. Food came out quickly. Cute atmosphere. It was crowded on Saturday morning. The two of us were able to find a seat, but it would’ve been difficult for a group of 4+ to find a table.

So amazing. I had tiramisu for the first time since going gluten free, and it was just as good as I remember. The cupcakes are the best GF ones I've ever had. And, the ham, cheese, and egg crepe with potatoes on the side was great! I wish I lived closer! (On a side note, my mom tried to call and email ahead of time about making an order and never heard back from them.)

So glad we found this place! Friendly, helpful staff and DELICIOUS food. So excited that I could order anything I wanted on the menu and not have to ask questions.

Breakfast was plentiful. We had eggs, pancakes(yes!!!), ham, sausage, hashbrowns and a biscuit( I don’t know when the last time was that I had a biscuit and this one was perfect.). It was my birthday and the first time in years I got to have a gluten free cupcake that was tasty and fresh! German Chocolate💛. To have so many choices was heaven. So delicious!!

We will make sure we plan our trip up north each time to come back & visit.

Thanks for a perfect breakfast on this rainy morning

Absolutely amazing. I am a very sensitive celiac who really misses strawberry, banana Nutella crepes from my gluten days and this place made my dreams come true again!! Everything was delicious! The Happy Tart is a 100% gluten free bakery. The owner, Emma, has Celiac Disease and has set up two locations in Falls Church and Del Ray. The Falls Church location has a full brunch menu that is totally delicious. My daughter always gets the pancakes and eggs, and I love the coconut and strawberry french toast. They also do a stellar job with custom cakes—they made a 3D birthday cake for my husband that looked just like a stack of waffles.

I wholeheartedly agree with another reviewer (DukeCeliac).

--A lot of what this place offers is just okay.

--They have weird hours. I went to Elevation Burger nearby and wanted to pick up some dessert to take home, but they were closed.

I absolutely appreciate that they are a safe place for celiacs to eat, but it rarely feels worth it for what I get and what I pay.

This place is one of the few 100% safe options in the area, and I really appreciate that. Some of their foods (i.e. the ham and cheese crepe, the apple crepe, the pot pie, the chocolate chip cookies, chocolate decadence petit four, etc.) are REALLY good, but a lot of it is just okay. Just okay isn't really that okay for their prices. But what really, truly frustrates me about The Happy Tart is that it seems like this place is NEVER open. Sometimes I drive all the way there and it's just closed. And even their regular business hours are annoying--it's unclear how anyone who has a full-time job would get to the store before 6pm when they close. It's a nice bakery if you're in town, but as a local, The Happy Tart is honestly only okay.

So so awesome. Full service bakery for us GF folks. Worth a long drive to get here. Our family consensus was 17 stars out of 5. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the scone. On the other hand, I never liked gluteny scones that much either.

The carrot cake cupcake, the salted caramel petit-four, and the nutella-banana cupcake were all AWESOME. The baguette is in the freezer for a later treat.

I will definitely be back on my next trip.
