The Mountain Fountain in Hygiene, Colorado, offers a charming and cozy spot for those seeking gluten-free options. The café takes pride in accommodating various dietary needs, including gluten-free diets.
Upon visiting, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of gluten-free choices available. The staff is knowledgeable about cross-contamination and ensures that gluten-free items are prepared with care. Their gluten-free baked goods, including muffins and cookies, are a highlight, boasting both flavor and texture that rivals their gluten-containing counterparts.
The menu also includes gluten-free bread for sandwiches, allowing for a satisfying meal without the worry of gluten exposure. The freshness of ingredients and the thoughtful preparation make it a delightful experience for gluten-sensitive patrons.
Overall, The Mountain Fountain stands out as a reliable and enjoyable destination for gluten-free dining, combining a welcoming atmosphere with delicious and safe options. Whether you're a local or just passing through, it's definitely worth a visit.
We had a gluten free pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving and it was wonderful! Great filling flavoring, not too strong or too bland. Highly recommended!
I was a bit nervous eating here after reading the reviews but maybe they made improvements as it seemed quite safe. They have two sandwich ordering forms, a white one for most food and a yellow one for gluten free food. On the yellow form, you can check a box for “allergy” or “preference”. I had a veggie sandwich and did not get sick but I am not the most sensitive celiac
Thanks for coming in and thanks for your comment! We have a new sandwich deli which is entirely dedicated to making gluten free sandwiches, so there is no risk of any cross contamination anymore. We felt it was important to do this since we have so manny celiac customers. We always had a separate toaster and area for gluten free sandwiches, but we used the same pickle /pepper/ veggie containers as the regular deli. We realized that was probably where some cross contamination was happening - so we have two of everything now - we got a separate sandwich deli in March to eliminate any risk.😊 Hope to see you again soon, Carrie Olson, owner
The sweetest shop in the area. So cozy, unpretentious, and kind. And to top that off all of their baked goods are gluten free, and clearly marked with all ingredients. They provide a lovely place to stop for a snack. Their pies are incredible and they have frozen breads and pie crusts and much more to take home as well. Their sandwiches can all be gf as well, and everyone there is trained to know about cross contamination avoidance. They are so wonderful and everything is delicious. A wonderful company.
Thank you so much for your very thoughtful review. As a small business, we really appreciate this kind of shout-out and support!!❤️❤️ Cheers, Carrie Olson, owner
This place is so charming. Their gf bakery foods are tasty and wonderful. BUT beware getting food at their deli counter. I have been glutened twice in the past 6 months from ordering sandwiches there. I think the are some cross contamination awareness issues! The previous owner was celiac, but the new owner is not. Be very careful when ordering from the counter.
Thank you for the feedback. I am very concerned that you received anything that was cross-contaminated from our deli! You are correct, I do not have celiac, but three members of my family do, and I have other very serious food allergies, so I understand the importance of no cross contamination. In the five years I have owned the business, we have been quite vigilant about our gluten free protocols. We have a completely separate toaster and sandwich-making area for gluten allergies. And we now have a completely separate (yellow) sandwich form for our gluten free customers with a box to check if it is an allergy or just a preference. We actually have a full protocol in place for gluten allergies. My staff are well trained on using all fresh utensils and gloves, if they have been making sandwiches with regular bread, as they shift to working in the gluten-free area, so as not to cross contaminate from their gloves or utensils. We have separate butter containers for gluten and gluten free and all the other spreads are in squeeze bottles. I will talk with my staff to re-assert the importance of our no cross contamination protocol. It would be great if you could reach out via email to me at [email protected] to give me more information about your experience at the store, as we take this extremely seriously. I apologize again and look forward to hearing from you, Carrie Olson, owner, The Mountain Fountain UPDATE: We now have two sandwich delis - so we have two of everything now - we got a separate sandwich deli in March to eliminate any risk.😊 Thanks so much for your feedback - it was very helpful- it made us really look at where any cross contamination may be occurring and we realized it was the pickle/relishes and veggies!! Hope to see you again soon, Carrie Olson, owner
This place is amazing! Almost everything is GF (pies, quiche, sweets). It’s kind of like a little old drug store but has a deli counter and they carry a variety of random local items. I had a chicken salad sandwich on their house GF bread and it was outstanding. I also got a strawberry rhubarb muffins (that was amazing) and I have some banana bread and quiche for tomorrow. I literally could eat here every day. SO GOOD! They are super short staffed right now so be kind. They do carry rg. bread for sandwiches for those that don’t want GF bread.
Thanks so much for your kind words, and your thoughtfulness about when we were so short-staffed💕💕. Carrie Olson, owner
Absolutely adorable coffee shop! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and the food was delicious! I had a made to order GF sandwich and a GF raspberry brownie. My boyfriend has the chili dog and has only great things to say! Will be going back and recommend!
Thanks so much for your kind words and the shout - out! Carrie Olson, owner
