This was recommended by a person who has a Celiac daughter and knows gf. I was told that the owner has Celiac, so we gave it a try. They have a "Gluten Friendly" menu. I hate that term, because it should be Gluten Free Friendly. You would think that a Celiac would understand this and use an appropriate term.
Right off the bat, the waitress said, oh we don't offer anything gluten free, just gluten friendly. We don't have separate anything. The look of disgust and confusion on my face must have been pretty fantastic because she immediately went to get her manager.
The manager said that they have the following "precautions"; they have a small area on the grill that they "reserve" for gf pancakes, but it isn't clearly defined. It isn't cleaned every time someone asks for gf pancakes. If you tell them allergy, they will change their gloves. They have one waffle maker that is reserved for gf waffles. The food comes out in a black lined plate.
My Celiac girls opted to get a waffle since it seemed to be the safest option. They said it was good, but nothing special. They did not get sick afterwards, so that was a bonus. They haven't had breakfast in a restaurant in years, so it was a treat, but we most likely won't go back often due to the staff immediately saying they can't do gf (panic), lack of options and safety. They charge additional for the gf waffles (we are used to that) but, then they charged an additional fee for chocolate chips, when the regular chocolate chip version was not an additional fee. It was the most expensive waffle I've ever seen... Around $16.
It you find yourself there, get a manager and opt for the waffle, it is the safest option. Everything else seems like a gamble.
This is not celiac friendly. The staff did warn us that it is gluten friendly but from the positive reviews made by others on this app, I took a chance. Never again! I didn’t even make it home before the GI symptoms started. I’m very sick. I would not even consider this gluten friendly. Lovely place, and great staff but NOT for someone who has restrictions. 😞
Deliciousness, I was even able to get the seasonal specialty gluten free! The staff was great about explaining the menu and what was available; the fact that the food was made from scratch gives a lot of comfort that they know if something is safe versus guessing from the side of a box. Yum!
The waitress was up front and honest with us that a prior customer with Celiac had a reaction and that they don't have a separate griddle for gf, don't clean the griddle for gf orders, and don't change their gloves.
We left before tempting faith. Suffice to say, if you have Celiac you might want to look elsewhere.
Delicious, offers gluten free pancakes and waffles! Large Hash browns are superb, can get add ins.
Gluten free pancakes were delicious! Dedicated GF menu. Server was knowledgeable and explained all of the precautions the kitchen takes. I plan to return.
Lots of GF options for waffles and pancakes - server was very knowledgeable.
We did have an issue because the person who brought our food out stacked the GF pancakes under the gluten pancakes and powdered sugar was transferred, so we had to wait over 20 minutes for new ones.
Also orange juice is $7…
This is a great breakfast option for my celiac daughter! She loves the chocolate chip pancakes. Our servers have always been knowledgeable about their GF protocols, which is awesome. Food is all prepped and cooked in a separate space, and GF meals come out on a plate rimmed in black as a designation for GF!
