I’ve been to many Original Pancake house restaurants before without any problem, loved the red plate system and the many options. I was in maple grove for the day and went to this location, I got the pumpkin pancakes. It came out on a red plate but tasted strange, I thought it was because of the pumpkin flavor. I even had a family member try some and he said it tasted gf. Two hours later I had a bad reaction, Most likely a cross contamination issue.
Many Original Pancake House locations offer gluten free pancakes. Please speak to your server about taking the proper precautions to prevent cross contamination, if necessary.
I’ve been 3 times! My mom and I are both celiac and the waiters have all seemed to know exactly what it means and what to do
I love the variety on the menu— many places it feels like being GF limits you to 3-4 menu choices but not here :)
**I’ve been to other locations, not all of them seem to be as on top of it as this one :(
Amazing pancakes. They even gave me a free bonus plate of gf cinnamon swirl pancakes to try. Very attentive to gf issues.
Definitely recommend for anyone with Celiacs, most of the pancakes are gluten-free, they also have crapes & waffles!! Server was very kind & knowledgeable, everything on the menu is labeled properly. The Pancakes are amazing!! The bacon is GF as well!!
They are really good at telling people what’s gf on the menu and they use a separate pancake griddle for the gf pancakes to make sure that there’s no cross contamination
The gf pancakes and French toast were fantastic and for a side you can order four thick slices of bacon which is amazing!!
Just left here - Not the same as the Edina/Burnsville OPH's, they don't use the red plates to differentiate the GF from the regular stuff and their menu is quite a bit different. The waiter we had seemed pretty irritated by my questions since typically this has been a place I felt safe going to but Maple Grove location is a whole different thing apparently. Food wasn't as good as at other locations and time will tell whether I have a reaction or not....
I have eaten at two Original Pancake House locations in the Twin Cities. I like how many options they have for GF - not just a couple of menu options I didn’t feel like I had to miss out on anything when ordering. They definitely have trained their staff on food allergies and have defined procedures in place. Gluten free meals come on a different colored/rimmed plate and when they serve it to you, they verify “gluten free pancakes” or whatever you ordered. I had great meals both times and had no reaction afterward. I will go again.
I ate here the day before Christmas Eve. I have celiac and have eaten here several times and the gluten free pancakes were very good. But this time I had a terrible reaction. I told the waitress I needed gluten free when she first came to the table, told her again when I ordered and she repeated it, but there was a mix up somewhere because I am certain that I was given regular pancakes. I have not been that sick since I went on a gluten free diet 8 years ago. Almost had to stay home and miss Christmas Eve dinner the next day. So be very careful and double check that you have gluten free food.
Pancakes are good! Hash browns are phenomenal. They even have waffles and crepes gfree!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed dining here this morning. It's always a challenge to find a restaurant that truly makes me feel safe about eating out. As soon as I mentioned Celiac Disease to our server, Molly, she explained that they have a separate grill, pointed out all the selections on the menu that are marked as gluten free options, and assured me that they understand how to control cross-contamination in the kitchen. Aaron, the manager, came out to our table three times to make sure I felt good about my meal and to let me know that they welcome questions. It felt wonderful to be able to relax and enjoy a meal out knowing the staff was well-trained and were taking care of me. In addition, the food was great, the service was exceptional, and the ambiance classy. Love this place!
Very very great GF pancakes! I tell everyone about the ones I had
I reviewed this place on YELP already but I need to get the word out. This location is NOT Celiac friendly, only the OPH in Rosedale is Celiac Friendly. The staff here had NO CLUE about Celiac when I visited this past October. They use the same Griddle for everything, please avoid. Go to Rosedale instead, feel free to ignore me and go anyway but ask them how they separate GF from non-GF and see what they say. You were warned. On the other hand the Rosedale location has a separate griddle and section of GF foods.
I missed eating here and really missed my banana pancakes! I was so excited to eat here this morning with my husband I enjoyed every bite!! YUM! When I ordered I made sure I said that I'm GF first before I said my order.
Great place to go when craving some great pancakes or waffles. I have always had a great experience and there are a lot of choices. Not every location offers Gluten Free options.
The staff was knowledgeable and nice and even helped me pick out what I wanted. I had the gf waffle and a side of fruit. The waffle was really good and the side of fruit was amazing. Normally when you get a side of fruit at places it’s just crummy, but this one was so goooood. My boyfriend had the burrito and said it was very good just greasy.
My celiac husband has their gluten free pancakes all the time with no issues! Staff is friendly and understanding.
No reservations and there’s always a long wait on weekends, but once you’re placed at a table the service is quick.
I’m dairy+egg free and order the hash brown plate with a side of sausage and all the omelet veggies and it’s delicious.
