I should have written this sooner. We went for Christmas Eve dinner. My family loved the food. But - . After eating a few bites of my collard greens I found Mac and cheese under them. I was sick for a few days after that. The server apologized and as very nice. But it wasn’t worth getting sick. She said she had the allergy celiac alert sent to the kitchen as well. So it really seemed like the kitchen was not careful at all.
Famous for pulled pork bbq and ribs. Some GF sides available.
Have eaten here multiple times and not gotten sick, but the last time we got takeout we found a few (2-3) macaroni noodles at the bottom of one of our gluten free side dishes. We had specifically told them that I had celiac and asked them to please be careful about cross contamination. We couldn’t eat the meal, so they ended up giving us a refund. Usually the food is delicious and this could of course happen anywhere, but just a good reminder that cross contamination is a big issue for folks with celiac. Haven’t decided yet if we’d be comfortable trying to eat here again in the future.
Delicious GF options- salad, ribs, chicken. Unfortunately the fries were off-limits but the potato salad and the loaded potato skins appetizer were great GF alternatives. I will definitely return!!
Chef came out to talk to me about my order. Wait staff and chef very knowledgeable about avoiding cross contamination.
Not sure where the previous reviewer came up with 25% gluten free on the menu. Much less by my count. And simple things that should be, like fries, aren’t. Two stars for trying, -3 for major lack of selection.
LOVE that their main menu depicts what is gluten free (and also labels vegetarian options). Both sauces were gluten free and delicious. Our server was great and didn't hesitate when I asked him about gluten free. I had the brisket and collards and green beans. They serve biscuits and hush puppies to the table so just let them know if you don't want it served. I heard the pulled pork was incredible, and is also gluten free. Would come back!
Everything is amazing. The BBQ, the brisket, the ribs, the soup, the sides.. They will even sub out ice cream if you order family style dinner. Bourbon ice cream is to die for!
This was a huge let down. After taking care to order gluten free they didn't write my order with any sort of allergen indication and included some breaded product that was likely not GF. We ordered the Big Boy meat platter. My partner liked the pulled pork well enough but it was a bit spicy for my taste. I tried the chicken, brisket, and ribs but the seasoning wasn't anything to write home about.
Great bbq. Menu is clearly marked with lots of gluten-free options.
I've eaten at The Pit a few times without a problem but this time someone got careless in the kitchen. Halfway through my side of gf Brussels, I found a few green beans from the (not gf) green bean casserole. Later, I felt the effects of being glutened. If I go back, I will just get the meat and a salad. The sides are just too risky in my opinion.
Before GF, one of my favorites. Now with GF, still a good choice, with a limited but clear and worthwhile menu.
