I always love finding gf treasures on vacation! My small town has no options. This place is celiac friendly. Their daughter is celiac and their story is on the back of the menus. The staff was very knowledgeable and kind. For the first time in 5 years, I ate a pancake from a restaurant! I didn’t know that was possible. I highly recommend giving them a try if you’re in the area!
Really good food, and they seem to be really careful about cross contamination, the pancakes and skillets are really good.
Great GF pancakes and healthy dishes. They come with a GF flag inserted to avoid cross-contamination.
Staff is super knowledgeable and food is excellent!
Owners have a daughter with celiac. Everyone from hostess to servers are well educated and don't bat an eye when asking for their (extensive!) gluten free menu or ordering from that menu. I felt like normal diner for once. It was wonderful. The fact that the food, atmosphere, and service are fantastic kind of makes it seem to good to be true...but it's deliciously true!!
love love love this place!!!!
Food was amazing! Love the pancakes!
I feel normal eating here. Substantial gluten free menu and they have separate fryers!
This was by far the most amazing gluten free meal I’ve had since being diagnosed with celiac. The pancakes are amazing and the staff super helpful. My family that isn’t gf loved their food as well.
I have celiac disease and was excited to try a place that “gets it.” I let my server know that I have celiac and asked for a gf menu. I ordered a pancake. After I was three bites in, my server came back and said he needed to stop me because he couldn’t be certain my pancake was gf because it didn’t come out of the kitchen with the gf toothpick in it. He apologized, took the plate, and had another remade. Thankfully, I don’t have digestive problems when I eat gluten (I have other symptoms) so I don’t know if I was “glutened.” He was very apologetic and I appreciated his honesty. But for someone who gets sick, this could have ruined your day. The pancake was great! Smelled like a funnel cake! I’ll definitely be back to try lunch.
Even though you still need to ask for the GF menu; it was fantastic to finally have a breakfast skillet again. No reaction to the "Kitchen Sink" and my non-GF mate really enjoyed his Huevos Rancheros (despite having verde/tamatillo sauce instead of the usual red sauce). Will visit again before leaving St. Louis! FYI: Sunday morning (appx. 0900 check in) wait is 35-40min. thru the lunch rush...
Unbelievable options!! Sweet potato tots and chocolate chip pancakes are incredible!!
love, love, love. My waitress was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating about eating gluten free. An important note: they usually make their GF pancakes on the same surface as their regular ones, BUT if that's a concern for you, you can ask that they make it on a separate skillet. That's what they did for me and it was wonderful!
Fun atmosphere, good service, and great food. i had the "Meg Ryan". It ncluded a gf pancake the size of a dinner plate, eggs, bacon, and skillet potatoes. I could hardly eat half of it. We will be going back for sure.
Perfectly cooked gf pancake with blueberry compote. Zach was fast and polite.
fantastic food, great ambiance, well worth the price!! also, get the gluten free chocolate chip pancake. it's great :+)
Super good gluten free pancakes!!
Great burgers and fries!
In town on business- good lunch options. Recommend.
Fantastic skillet plates!! The atmosphere is so easy going and I will definitely be back!
GF chocolate chip pancakes + bacon. Delicious
Both kids have to eat gf and they never get pancakes when we go out for breakfast. It was so great they got to order something fun for a change. We loved this place. No issues after eating here.
Disappointed at best. The menu was impressive, there aren't many places you can get gluten free pancakes. That said, hubby got a hash scramble that tasted like pre-cooked turkey and had a funny texture. My chicken sandwich was under seasoned and would have greatly benefited from some bacon and sautéed onion. The gf bun wasn't bad, but it was doused in fake butter and I just couldn't get past that. Overall, the service was decent and everything was edible but it was by no means great. We won't be going back.
Great place! The owners daughter has Celiac Disease so he offers "Hanna's menu" in her honor. GF options with attention to cross contamination. Eternally grateful The Shack!
Gluten free menu with dedicated grills and fryers! Breakfast was delicious!!
love this place! our only stop for a good breakfast. pancakes and a smoothie are my go to, but I have also had their egg/hash Brown skillets which are very good also! Same owners as the corner pub and haven't had a problem. yet
Blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes were amazing. Service was great. Plan ahead though, long wait on Sunday morning. Totally worth it!
Great staff and food. Dedicated fryer and space. Recommend!
This place is amazing for celiac suffers. Staff is aware of this issues & the manger came out & shared some of the training they had to go through to ensure no cross contamination. Pricing is great, we don’t feel penalized for having multi celiac suffers in 1 family. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The owner's daughter is celiac so education of staff on allergies is very important. He even makes the gluten free chicken strips for all of his restaurants himself. My gluten free pancake came to the table with a stick on it that said gluten free on it. It tasted amazing!
Ate here today after seeing lots of positive feedback on Facebook. Server was knowledgeable and my food came out with a gf toothpick. I felt very comfortable eating here and look forward to going back for their pancakes. I think they have a dedicated fryer and potentially dedicated space but I didn’t ask based on what I ordered. The menu says they use separate skillets and such for their gf meals. The owners daughter has celiac so it seems like they are very on top of gf food and prep.
The Owner’s daughter has Celiac, so they know what they’re doing. They have a dedicated fryer and they use dedicated skillets. We spoke with the manager, who was very knowledgeable. Best breakfast place in KC, especially if you have to be gluten free.
The Shack in Overland Park has amazing brunch!! I have Celiac Disease and I was super impressed with the extensive menu (the owner’s daughter also has Celiac Disease). I ordered a chocolate chip pancake the size of the plate, 2 sausage links, and French fries for about $15. Delicious food and enough for leftovers too. My friend ordered the breakfast burrito (not gluten free). Service was amazing as well. Fun atmosphere of writing on the walls.
Loved this spot for quick lunch as we headed to St.Louis. Girls LOVED their giant GF pancakes and GF BLT with French fries. GF dedicated fryer. Great atmosphere. Staff and kitchen well trained to provide GF safe food for celiacs. One of my girls is extremely sensitive and had no problems. Our non-celiac family members very much enjoyed their meals too. Thanks to owners for your offerings and training others to take GF safety seriously. Will definitely visit next time we are traveling through!
There is an excellent gluten free menu that offers breakfast and lunch options. They even have gluten free pancakes that are fabulous! The plates come out with an allergy marker on them, which provided a sense of security. No pain or discomfort after eating either! Definitely celiac approved.
Great place. Separate gluten free menu, including gluten free pancakes. No GF toast, but they have a GF roll. Just ask for it and have it toasted. Hash browns are cooked separately to avoid cross contamination. Also, all GF food identified with GF stick.
We had the regular menu and the gluten free menu and my husband pointed out that their "beer braised" brisket was on the gluten free menu! Pointed this out to the manager who was very surprised, like, "oh, yeah? Beer is gluten?" By the time they sent out our food they made a mistake on all four plates and gave us regular pancakes instead of gluten free pancakes. Gotta watch it here-they don't really understand!
They have a gf menu and the staff and manager were very knowledgeable and they even mark your plate with a special stick so they don't mix it up and carry it separately! Very sensitive celiac and didn't get sick! Food was delicious and they have gf pancakes!
I was so happy to find a place to eat while traveling. The food and service was great. I didn't get sick afterwards which was important as we were just to passing through. My non-gluten free family members enjoyed their meal as well. Wish we had one of these at home
I went to the shack this morning for breakfast and they do not have a gluten free menu our kitchen. The food on the menu would be perfectly fine for someone without celiac but just trying to stay away from gluten. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with severe celiac.
