I went to Tonic for lunch. I told the server I am gluten free and ordered one of the specials. It came out and was a little skeptical, so I asked again if it was gluten free. He assured me it was. I took a bite and soon after he ran back from the kitchen to tell me it was not gluten free and not to eat it. He said that he had written it on the order, I guess to blame the kitchen, but servers also need to be well versed in food allergies. I am incredibly careful and was really upset after finding out when I had asked multiple times. Their menu is marked so I’d steer clear of any specials if you go. I
Food at Tonic is fantastic. They are very knowledgeable about gluten free, but just a word of warning for celiacs—there isn’t a dedicated fryer. Avoid anything fried. There are a handful of items I personally stay away from, and was told by my server that they don’t recommend those items for those w celiac disease. I’ve eaten here several times and have not had an issue.
