Although the food was great and they offer a large gluten free menu, it is NOT Celiac friendly! I even informed the wait staff of my celiac but I became ill after consuming the pasta. I could taste that the pasta was a gluten free variety, so it may have been cross contamination during the prep?
Wow! We were excited to see a Gluten “safe” menu, order from a waitress who knew what celiac was without being asked, and they even had GF bread with oil just like you would get bread at any Italian restaurant. I can’t remember the last time my kids felt so normal. Thank you Tony’s!
Great place to eat if you have celiacs. Gluten free pizza is made by well trained staff that understand procedures for producing a safe product. Sauces for pizza and pasta are kept in separate containers. Gluten free pasta is not cooked in the same water as regular pasta. Gluten free tongs, utensils and cutting boards are kept separated from regular ones to prevent cross contamination. Sauces are made from scratch and no flour is used to thicken any of them. The regular bread is baked in a separate facility which reduces loose flour in the kitchen. I eat here regularly and have never gotten sick.
First, each table was automatically given GF menu along with a regular menu. We both that that was a pretty nice thing to do! My husband is GF and I am not and we both had plenty of options! We started out with the GF bruschetta as an appetizer which was delicious. It was served on GF pita bread which was really good. As the nonGF person I highly recommend trying the complimentary homemade bread they brought (they asked if it was okay), it was fantastic. My husband got the GF eggplant Parmesan that was served with a side of spaghetti. He LOVED the Parmesan, and said the spaghetti was good also good but he has had too spaghetti before so it wasn’t as much of a “wow” moment. I had a crawfish Alfredo dish that was awesome (cant remember the name) but I saw it was also an option on the GF menu as well. Highly recommend and the prices were REALLY reasonable.
I went on my birthday a few weeks ago and decided to try the pasta, which I never get. It was for sure GF pasta and it was delicious but I still got sick. No one told me the pasta is cooked in the same water as regular pasta. But I guess other servers have told their guest this, mine just didn't feel it was necessary even after mentioning I have CD. Not sure I'll be back after this last visit.
Separate menu with lots of choices! Very rare for Italian. I’m not celiac so I didn’t ask about contamination. The GF flatbread appetizer option is terrific, as is having something I can nosh on while my family scarfs on sourdough. I did “make your own pasta” as my entree- delicious and large portion! (I’m stuffed!) Would eat here regularly if we were local!
I’m basing my “celiac friendly” status on previous posts as well as the fact that the general manager has celiac. The food was amazing and the gluten-free menu was a whole menu front AND back!! It was so good I ordered a second meal to take home with me.
We were passing through Chattanooga and found this little gem of a restaurant. It was amazing to say the least! Most restaurants offer bread with a meal but never offer GF bread! This one did, and it was the best GF flatbread we've ever had! We asked our server if we could purchase one to take with us and we were so pleased that we were able to. My husband had the GF chicken tetrazzini and enjoyed every bite of it.
This is my favorite gluten free place in Chattanooga! They have a separate menu for gluten free including starters, dinners and deserts. Generous portions and helpful staff. For the rest of your dining party, I have heard nothing but complements about the food, (except my grumpy dad who is never pleased with anything).
I wish I lived closer to this restaurant because I would eat there every day! The menu was huge for gluten safe, the food is fresh and amazing. Get the chicken tetrazzini and another one to go! It was so nice to have bread with everyone else and the oil and cheese was delightful. Go!
I just had the best alfredo I've ever had in my life, and that includes before my Celiac diagnosis! A very impressive gf menu & knowledgeable staff who "specialize" in providing safe gf options. Delicious flatbread appetizer, and I ordered from the extensive make your own pasta section, getting penne pasta in alfredo with grilled shrimp and mushrooms. I thought I was going to die it was so amazing! All this and a beautiful view of the river in the Bluff View Arts District - can't recommend highly enough!
Absolutely amazing food & service! We were SO impressed we can't wait to come back on our way back hm in a few weeks! Loved the GF flat bread & large variety of GF pasta options! The rest of our family, non celiac loved their dishes as well! Everyone left full & very happy!
Soooooo good! Dedicated gluten free menu with tons of options and even desserts! The grilled eggplant was the best I've ever had and my husband (who is not celiac) agreed that it was the best Italian food he's had in years. I suggest arriving early though because this restaurant was packed tight and the wait was really long.... And for good reason!
Alot of options. My pasta had chicken, mushrooms, red pepper sauce and cheese. It was very good and i didnt get sick from cross contamination either. The gluen free bread tasted good as well. I recommend calling ahead and making reservations. The wait would have been two hours had we not chosen to sit outside.
Extensive gluten free menu, including make your own pizza, create your own pasta bowl, salads and specialties. Very fresh ingredients and the meals we had were delicious. They understand Celiac requirements as one of the managers has the disease. Highly Recommend this restaurant for those Celiac's looking for great Italian!
So good! I went for my second time today and it was just as good, even better actually! They have an entire gf menu and do not bat an eye when I request it. They have gf flatbread that's really yummy and brought it out separately and with my own oil they serve for "dipping" I build my own pasta and it was delicious. I had the pesto cream sauce with mushrooms and bacon all baked with mozzarella on top. It is surely becoming a staple for us when we come to town!
We visited on our recent trip to Chattanooga and heard they had gluten free pasta so we decided to try it. It was bland and pretty tasteless. The pasta was not very good. I got very ill after our visit which leads me to believe they should not state they are gluten free. Also, later found out they use store bought gluten free pasta which they cook in the same water as their regular pasta. That would explain why I got sick. Would NOT recommend anyone with celiac disease or gluten intolerance eat here.
This restaurant is amazing!!! Great gluten free menu! They offer gluten free pastas with a variety of sauces to choose from (all the ones I've had have been delicious...I especially like the pastas with baked mozzarella on top), a gluten free flat bread (tastes great), and gluten free pizza. I love this restaurant, it is my favorite!
I was so excited to eat here because they offer a gluten-free bruschetta which I could enjoy while my Mom was eating her bread. I ordered from their "gluten-free menu. I had the create your own pasta dish with their gluten-free fusilli, chicken, and roasted red pepper Alfredo sauce. So delicious!!!!
Before discovering our need to go gf, my wife and I had eaten at Tony's a couple times. Both times, we left stuffed. This time, my wife ordered gf spaghetti. The portion size was too small. When we left, she was still hungry and we had to go elsewhere for more food.
Tony's has a pretty extensive and impressive GF menu. I had the GF build your own pizza which was delicious. The crust was cooked perfectly and the toppings were fresh. The staff were friendly and patient & helpful with all my questions. Peaceful and scenic location as well. The only downside is if you go with others that are not GF. Tony's serves this amazing bread selection and olive oil dip with all meals. It's almost uncomfortable how much will power it takes to not eat any :/ On the other hand, they do have a GF flatbread for $2. I didn't order this so I can't judge.
