there is not a separate gf menu, but there are items marked with an * to indicate what can be made gf. ate here twice. once for lunch and once for dinner. both times i just got the tropics burger which is your typical original burger but with a sauce that i got taken off. i also was able to get fries which is something i haven’t been able to do since my diagnosis. the first time, for lunch, i was very skeptical but the waitress assured me that is was 100% gf and that they have a fryer specially for fries. when they came out they looked battered, but i was once again assured they were fine. also, the bun came toasted but i asked for it to not be bc it’s on the grill. i did not get sick at all. the second time, for dinner, they have a very limited menu and there was not a lot for gf, but i was still able to order the burger and fries. i forgot to ask for the bun to be untoasted so when it came out i just took it off and took off what it’s touched. i know that’s not how celiac works, but i was starving and didn’t care at that point. i didn’t get sick though, but maybe don’t do that and just ask for it untoasted. the staff was very knowledgeable and i felt safe when i went. there is not a separate gf menu, but there are items marked with an * to indicate what can be made gf.
This place is temporary closed for remodeling until October
After reading reviews I was hesitant to go, but decided to give it try. Was pleasantly surprised! Asked the hostess about GF options, she immediately told me the GF options are marked with an * on the main menu, and to inform my server so the kitchen can be made aware of cross-contamination. Server again confirmed GF options on menu and told about separate fryer for fries. There are not a ton of options, but there's still several to chose from. Chose the burger with fries, comes with a GF bun. Both burger and fries were tasty and haven't gotten sick.
They had several gluten free options marked on the menu. One night I had a burger on a GF bun. Waitress indicated th fries were cooked in a dediced fryer. Another night I had a steak and they prepped a special separate sauce since the menu sauce has gluten.
SUNRISE SANDO!!!! This is truly THE best breakfast I have had eating out, ever. The staff was very knowledgeable and careful after I shared my severe allergy.
My fiancé decided to go GF awhile ago as well and had the Street Avocado Toast and it was DELICIOUS!
100% recommended. I am going to try another dish from this business before traveling home. WOW!!
Went for a late lunch and had a great relaxing experience! Got the catch of the day on a gluten free bun. The sandwich was good. The bun felt apart, but I kind of expect that. The menu indicates GF options with the staff able to answer questions. They also had a GF chocolate cake dessert (I didn't get it, but it was nice to see they offered something). There was also live entertainment, which was fun. Good experience in a covered outdoor setting right on the beach. Would definitely go back.
Went for breakfast and dinner and it was great! Waitstaff is very knowledgeable. One meal came out with gluten-free bread that looked different than the last meal and when I asked about it they explained they were using a different kind of gluten free bread that day. Yum!
Our server, Lisa, was not only very attentive, but also had a strong awareness of the gluten content of many items on the menu. Where she wasn’t 100% sure, she double-checked with the kitchen. While there isn’t a separate GF menu, the standard menu indicates items that can easily be made GF. They also had GF toast to go with my breakfast dish & potatoes were fried in a dedicated fryer. They did a great job!
We ate breakfast and dinner here during our short stay in Waikiki. My son who has Celiac and is quite sensitive to cross-contamination never got sick. They had gf buns for burgers and spent the time to dig through their freezer for gf bread for breakfast. No dedicated fryer or gf bagels. The menu said they had "gf griddle cakes" for breakfast, but they didn't. Even though the menu wasn't always accurate, the restaurant was super-careful with my son's orders and always did their best to accommodate his order. And most importantly, he never got sick.
Being celiac on a vacation in an unfamiliar place can be nerve wracking! I kept hearing about this place from fellow celiacs. Though we are not staying at the resort where this restaurant is, we decided to make the drive and try it. I had a BBQ Hawaiian chicken sandwich-completely gluten free. The fries even have a designated fryer and are gf as well! Highly recommend!
The service was great! It was busy but they kept up with it. I ordered the Lobster Eggs Bennie on GF toast and it was amazing. The Lobster and eggs were cooked perfectly. The server was somewhat knowledgeable about the gluten free offerings but when she didn't know she asked a manager to find out.
Have to agree with others. Good food, but not worth literally 50 percent more in cost. Had a few selections for gf, but not able to customize . We felt they push to buy drinks a little bit. Our observation. We were at the end of our day and tired, unfortunately nothing in the nearby area is gf friendly.or reasonable cost, so we landed back here. Possibly the marketplace next door. But that is grab and go. Rest if trip, we made sure to be closer to other dining options.
Gluten free options are marked on the menu, and they have a separate fryer for fries, but you need to ask for that so you don’t get fries made in a another shared fryer. Food was great, and I didn’t get sick. Double win. One tip - ask for no straw. They use paper straws (many of which have gluten containing ingredients), and bring your drink out with the straw in it.
We are staying at the Hilton Village Waikiki. Our family of 4 with celiac were treated so well at Tropics. Call ahead, speak to the manager and let them know your concerns. They are very knowledgeable, have a separate fryer for gluten free fries. Just make sure your server knows and speak to the manager before you get seated. Katrina (manager) is amazing.
