Gluten free options are marked on the menu, and they have a separate fryer for fries, but you need to ask for that so you don’t get fries made in a another shared fryer. Food was great, and I didn’t get sick. Double win. One tip - ask for no straw. They use paper straws (many of which have gluten containing ingredients), and bring your drink out with the straw in it.
We are staying at the Hilton Village Waikiki. Our family of 4 with celiac were treated so well at Tropics. Call ahead, speak to the manager and let them know your concerns. They are very knowledgeable, have a separate fryer for gluten free fries. Just make sure your server knows and speak to the manager before you get seated. Katrina (manager) is amazing.
They had gluten free hamburger buns. They weren't advertise on the menu, but I asked my server and sure enough they had them. The burger was delicious and they fried my French fries in a separate frier. Pretty pricey but I didn't get sick and I got to have a burger so it was worth it to me. Our waitress was attentive and helpful.
Staff was not very helpful. I was told "we don't serve gluten free French fries" even though their menu said GF beside it. We had ordered them twice before with no problem. But this last time the waiter claimed he asked the chef & they could fry them separately. My sons stomach started hurting by the time we left & we spent the next 2 days in our hotel.
While there weren't a lot of options, the staff was knowledgeable about gluten. I got the pork nachos and they substituted guacamole with avocados because they said they import their guacamole and can't guarantee it's safe for celiacs. I appreciate that. Was a tasty treat having nachos Hawaiian style with fresh pineapple!
When I asked the server what on the menu was gluten free and he said teriyaki chicken I knew he was incompetent. Had to ask lots of questions and got awful answers. Obvious no GF training. Service was slow and he walked past us multiple times when I was trying to get his attention. Never again! Go to Outback down the street for great service and trained servers.
