Under new name. Guy behind counter was clueless. I asked if they had gluten free crust and he said yes. Then I asked if they put them on separate trays or changed gloves and he looked at me like I had horns growing out of my head so we left. Such a shame because uncle Maddie’s was great.
When I asked for a GF crust, he knew immediately to change gloves, pull all fresh ingredients, and use clean utensils. They know how to prepare and handle the food to avoid cross contamination which is a must for Celiacs.
Great place! One of the employees was telling me that her mom has Celiac, so she totally got it! They asked if it was a preference or allergy. They also have a keto option! (Even though I didn't know that until after they made my salad). Even though I have Celiac, I am keto so I didn't eat the pizza but my daughter loved hers. I recommend going here if you are in town.
Maddio's is definitely not celiac-friendly. A few months ago, I was served a regular pizza, when I had ordered a gluten-free pizza. I ate an entire piece and was starting on a second piece when a server walked out with my gluten-free pizza and informed me that the pizza I was eating was NOT gluten-free. In almost 12 years of celiac disease, this was the first time that anything like this had happened to me. I had issues resulting from this error for several months, because I got "glutened." The manager and staff seemed to have no idea at all of how serious this was for someone with celiac disease. Needless to say, I have not returned to this restaurant. It is a shame, since it was one of my favorites before they made this serious mistake. I would say that celiacs are taking a big risk to eat here. People with just gluten intolerance might be "ok." I am just not willing to take this risk again, since the results affect health for many months later, while the small intestine heals from the gluten damage.
Wow! So impressed! I told them gluten free crust and he immediately changed his gloves and asked me to come over to the allergy end of the counter. They have a completely separate gluten free surface and gluten free toppings. He didn't leave my pizza from start to finish so it was sure to be safe. I didn't even have to ask, he just did it. On top of that, the pizza was definitely one of the best GF pizzas I've ever had! I think I'm in love! Be sure to sign up for rewards, you get a free pizza when you do. Update: Went last night and even though I watched them pull every from the allergy counter, I got BBq sauce which came from the other end. Big mistake on my part. Definitely paying the price. Next time, only sauces from the allergy side.
This place is great for celiacs. First they confirmed if I ordered gluten free crust for medical reasons. They put the crust on paper and then on a pan to keep it from touching the oven surface and took cheese and toppings from fresh containers under the counter. The crust is thin and basic, but the pizza was tasty overall.
Lots of gluten free options. Staff is highly knowledgable, accommodating, and friendly. Be sure to alert them to any medical concerns regarding cross-contamination. They have a separate preparation area with safe ingredients. The only change that I would recommend would be clearly labeled take out boxes, though it is shown on the receipt, and they told us which boxes were the gluten free pizzas in our order. We will certainly be ordering again. Delicious. Highly recommended.
This is a very safe, relatively inexpensive gf pizza option if you’re looking for a quick bite to eat! Make sure to tell them you have an allergy, ask them to change their gloves and put down a sheet of wax paper on top of the cooking sheets that they use, just to be extra safe :)
Updated review 4/7/19 I asked for a gluten free crust because of a gluten allergy and the employee changed gloves immediately, asked what toppings I wanted, and proceeded to get fresh toppings from under the counter. I watched as my pizza went through the oven and as it was coming out, a different employee placed my pizza on the same cutting board where a regular pizza had just been cut! He even cut it with the same cutter. I immediately told him that my pizza wasn’t safe because he contaminated it. He stated he was given no indication that my pizza was for an allergy. I’m so glad I watched the process or else I could’ve been very sick. Another employee immediately made me a new pizza. I make it a habit of watching pizza places like this one and Blaze to ensure they’re not contaminating me. I was just disappointed that this happened at Uncle Maddio’s since I’ve always had good experiences there. Original review: My favorite pizza place! They do a wonderful job to prevent cross contamination and the pizzas are delicious! Staff is friendly and accommodating.
This place is great! When we ordered my daughter’s gluten free pizza the staff immediately changed their gloves. They got out a different bucket of cheese and a squirt bottle of pizza sauce. The pizza was cooked in a different part than the other pizzas. I was amazed. She loved the pizza. Tasted really good. Will definitely be back!!
I had a great experience at Uncle Maddio's. When I explained that I have celiac disease, they pulled all the ingredients for my pizza from their fresh supply (not the stuff out in their prep area) to make sure that my pizza was safe. I didn't get sick, and my pizza was great. Highly recommended!
Super yummy and was impressed with their process. They have a separate gluten free line with toppings and sauces. The gluten free pizzas are in their own pan and they use a separate knife and spatula for handling when pizzas come out of oven.
Good pizza that i enjoyed because ingredients were marked as gf and gloves were changed. A meal is always better with assurances.
I found a piece of charred pineapple with stuff on it from someone else's pizza under a slice when I picked it up. I had already eaten some before I found it, and I am still having pain from it. I would have said something, but this is the second time lately they have glutened me. I wish it hadn't happened because their pizza is so good! I don't know if they are under new management or what has happened, but be cautious if you eat here and have Celiac.
This place is really good. The staff are completely knowledgeable and trained about celiac disease and different levels of sensitivity/allergy. They’re nice and the pizza is tasty. I just wish they had gf cookies! Their cookies always look so good. Also, I have celiac disease and haven’t had a problem with their pepperoni.
Relax! They have got this!!! Walked in and told them it was an allergy-celiac. They switched gloves, brought out separate containers for topping, separate pizza platter with parchment, wiped down the counters. It was ready quickly and served hot loaded with cheese. Very attentive staff! Thank You!
We asked if the alfredo sauce was gf and the girl at the counter says "sort of". I'll leave out the detail but after we started to ask some questions we got completely ignored and finally just left. I was too nervous to even let my daughter eat there anyway because she has celiac disease. If they are careless with one item I expect they are careless with all. I will probably not return.
Went there today and was able to get lunch without any celiac related issues. They make the pizza in a separate section with separate ingredients. Crust tastes really good. Excited to have a pizza lunch spot.
Discovered this place while out of town for business, using the Find Me GF app. They immediately asked if it is s preference or allergy. Changed their gloves and had a different spoon for the sauce. Super tasty and so far, no reaction. ❤️
Pizza was really good with a wide variety of toppings to choose from. The staff took our need for gluten free seriously and changed gloves and used separate utensils. Very impressed!
Amazing experience. Staff super knowledgeable. Cleaned off everything and prepped separate, cooked separately...love the care they took. *went back bbn in today and didnt hear them call for an allergy and I said something. The manager said he heard my order and was going to take care of it. Trust them!
I’d give 10 stars if I could. Every time I go, I make sure to thank the workers because out of all of the restaurants I’ve been to since being diagnosed, they make sure the food is 100% GF. They’re amazing at cleaning the prep area (there is not a designated GF area, but the shared space is cleaned very well), the gloves are changed, new toppings are used from the back, the GF pizza is placed in the oven by itself and all of the workers are in communication that the pizza is GF. It’s the protocol that should be used every where, but rarely is. These people do it with a smile. I’ve eaten here several times and have never been ill. We love this place and will continue to go back!
I have only ordered online, but they have the best gf pizza I have ever had.
