They are DELICIOUS which is why I'm so sad to say the 3 times I've been here I was glutened. Basically, avoid anything fried because even the home fries are what caused my reaction. They do have a gf menus! Just stay away from fried foods, and be sure to mention allergy to waitstaff EDIT Ive since been back and they made a mistake with my order (eggs benedict) and asked if I could just slide it off onto gf bread. And they have ni different sides, so you have to pay more for fries, a side salad etx.

An update. These guys are fantastic. My symptomatic partner and I eat here weekly. No, the friers are not safe and they know that. Michael’s potatoes are gluten free and delicious. If you tell them you are celiac everyone takes it seriously. If you have a new waiter who seems unsure, then ask for the manager and help with their education. Among the safest restaurants in Bloomington and absolutely great food and bar!
Great food. Every waiter we’ve had has been trained well on celiac issues. The kitchen has its act together. The artichoke dip is to die for. (They sub cucumbers or gf toast.) My celiac family members have eaten here many times.

We have dined here many times and enjoyed outstanding food and service. Over the past year the staff has been less versed in what GF is and safe options, even when consulting with the chef. Previously they were exceptional. We have not been back-it feels like a roll of the dice and not worth the risk.

Celiac - safety has been spotty for me here, and the offerings are sparse but the food is excellent

Excellent service and food. Our server was very aware of what may have gluten and also aware of menu items with other allergens. Will definitely return

The printed menu doesn’t list gf options but they are online. The staff is aware and able to help guide options.

I have eaten here several times. I learn more about the options each time I come. They do not list what is gluten free or that they have GF bread available but they do. I even substituted GF bread for the English muffin and got an Eggs Benedict. Delicious. I also like their black bean soup, you just have to ask to eliminate the tortilla/wonton strips.

I got the shrimp and grits (modified to be GF). It was delicious and didn’t have any issues. Wait staff took precautions.

Big “yes please” to Uptown Cafe. The food was great. We felt safe. Our server Hannah was on point and very helpful. Salads, steak, asparagus and steamed rice. Seasoned well. I even got to have cream brûlée for dessert! Highly recommend 😎💯👍🏽

I got the chicken pita with GF toast to substitute the pita and it was excellent. The staff were knowledgeable on celiac and there were a good amount of options.

The staff at Uptown Cafe has been taking careful care of my gluten-free needs for years. They regularly grilled chicken (without breading) for my order of Louisiana Hot Pepper Chicken when I came in and ordered it (the sauce was already gluten-free.) They now have an entirely gluten-free menu including most of their sauces and many of their favorites. I have celiac disease and have found them to take it very seriously, and I have never had any bad experiences there after years of dining there. Highly recommended.

Mar 2021 Update - Still a place where I feel comfortable to eat. Curtious Staff & Tasty Food. Gluten Free items marked on the online menu, not the in house version.
Dec 2018 - We ate here twice during our visit. The Popeye omelet is yummy (no cheese, I added guac). The toast is Udi's. Ask for Emily K to be your server. She is a fellow Celiac & can help you out.

Good omelettes. Only caution is that during brunch hours they can be pretty packed, which makes them slow at service, which can be an issue if you're trying to get somewhere on a schedule.

Delicious brunch with GF toast. Friendly service.

The service was great. My spinach salad was good, but a little on the sweet side. The only burger on the menu is HUGE--1/2 lb. I would go back, though.

The staff is so friendly and the menu tells you exactly what food we can have! I highly recommend the Shrimp and Grits. Delicious!
Only went once, but it was something to brag about... the grits! <3 mmmmm...

They have bent over backwards to accommodate me. I am no soy, msg, & gluten. My steak came too spicy for me, they took it before I could say no. Double checked how I wanted it. If you're high maintenance like me, this is the place for you!
Amazing food and they are really good at knowing what they are taking about. The gf bread is a bit fragile, but it's really good.

Decent choices that are gluten free for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
This is my favorite gluten-free restaurant in Bloomington, hands down. The black bean soup is heavenly, there is an excellent and extensive gluten-free menu, which often includes fantastic deserts as well (and many superb sauces!) When I eat at Uptown... I am in heaven. I am able to forget for awhile that I am a celiac, and simply enjoy eating. The Louisiana Hot Pepper Chicken with rice is my favorite meal anywhere in Indiana.

Uptown Cafe had a separate menu that was all gluten free. This menu had several items listed! I had the Creole BBQ Shrimp and it was amazing!!!
