We were in town visiting family and my sister suggested this place for dinner as she knows our teenage son has Celiac and mentioned the great gluten free options.
When we arrived, our server Paul was very attentive and aware of needed precautions as it relates to cross contamination and put us all at ease. He has the curry goat which comes with a side of white rice.
Needless to say, Urban Tandoor passed the test. He enjoyed his meal and no complaints at all up until the next morning.
Check it out if you’re visiting the Colorado Springs area.
The menu has gluten free items marked. We got butter chicken, chicken tikka, and baingan bharta. Each marked GF. I did not have a reaction.
I know butter chicken and chicken tikka can be similar. I usually like to get lamb tikka. Urban Tandoor’s dishes were very similar. My wife couldn’t tell them apart. I could tell by the color and the tikka was hotter.
Unfortunately, the baingan bharta also tasted similar! We’ve never had one that tasted like marinara sauce. It was a chunky marinara with heat. Disappointing,
The biggest disappointment is that we couldn’t choose meats. The menu says chicken tikka. There’s no choice of lamb even though they do have lamb for some select dishes.
The taste was good. Not the best Indian food we’ve had. But above average.
I ordered the traditional curry and the tikki masala. Both very delicious and I have not experienced any stomach issues so it seems to be gluten free as they claim. Highly recommend.
