Van Leeuwen Ice Cream

I was offered a sample of ice cream here after I shared I had celiac and confirmed with the staff member it was gluten free. After I tried the sample, the staff member rechecked the ice cream flavor she gave me and stated that it did have gluten in it. It seemed like an honest mistake, but still very frustrating.

Went in nervous to order because I have celiac disease and they have a sign up that says to steer clear if you have a severe allergy. I’m really sensitive to gluten. I asked if they could change the scoop to a clean one since I have a “gluten allergy” and a girl immediately stepped up and said she could handle my order. She was so nice. Asked me what type of allergy it was, I told her gluten, and she immediately said she would get a clean scoop from the back AND she would go get fresh ice cream so that I wouldn’t experience any cross contamination. She also washed her hands before scooping. I was so happy to have such great service. 10/10!

We discovered this little ice cream shop last night that had several gf & vegan ice creams. I tried the vegan peanut butter honey comb that was df & gf (made with coconut milk) and it was delicious! There were still a lot of flavors we couldn’t have, but it was fun to try something new!

They have a QR code for food allergies, listing everything that has gluten. They do warn about potential cross contamination. They gave the scooper an extra rinse when I said I was unable to eat gluten and were very accommodating.
