I’ve been a frequent customer of Via 313 in Austin for years and have always had a great experience. However, my recent visit to the San Antonio location during a work trip was a huge disappointment.
I was initially concerned when the bartender, who was also our server, didn’t write down our order—especially since I have a gluten intolerance. But when another staff member brought out my food and specifically said, “This is the gluten-free pizza,” I assumed everything was fine.
Unfortunately, I was wrong.
This was the first time I’ve ever been glutened at Via 313, and it led to the worst reaction I’ve had in years. I'm in so much pain and discomfort. It’s incredibly frustrating because I’ve always felt confident in their ability to handle gluten-free orders at other locations.
I hope they take steps to ensure that their San Antonio staff is more careful about dietary restrictions in the future.
The crazy thing is, it was about 3 p.m. on a Tuesday, and there were only two other couples there eating. So, it's not like they were busy.
I wish I could write the full story, but I’m short this is an amazing experience with the gluten free Detroit style! They can make cheese sticks, pizza with almost every topping, and cinnamon sticks!! And the best part is it’s fluffy!! Not your normal thin crust! Absolutely worth the try.
And to answer the question you’ll ask when you bite into it…. YES, it’s gluten free!
I’ve gone to the via 313, off of 1604 and shaenfield rd, twice and had no allergic reactions. I’m a difficult customer to order with I’m allergic to gluten, egg and dairy. Our waitress who was a red head was absolutely amazing!! She went above and beyond! She validated all of my worries concerning my allergies and put a note on my order as well as going to the kitchen to personally tell the chef about all of my allergies. Come time for dessert she said she had talked to the chef and that he was able to make me the hockey sticks if I wanted them, which they tasted amazing!
This was the best pizza I have eaten since being diagnosed as being gluten intolerant. The crust was spongy, crusty on the edges, and full of flavor. The pizza is delicious! The waitress assured me of the safety precautions they take in their kitchen to help prevent cross contact. I will be returning to this restaurant.
What a wonderful experience! A thick crust gluten free and dairy free pizza, cheesy bread and cinnamon sticks. Delicious!! All pizza topping are GF except the meatballs.
It did take a very long time for our food to come out. Next time we’ll order the cinnamon sticks as soon as the other food comes out.
I’ve been here several times and have never gotten sick. Lots of options for pizzas and toppings. Staff seems knowledgeable about gluten and they are good about asking about allergies when you order gluten free. Honestly, one of the best gf pizza crusts you can get here in town. It’s soft and chewy, with a crispy top - no cardboard crust here!
