Tried the "Schmoo cake" sounds great just ok, whipped cream is the best part. Cake doesn't look appetizing (although it's probably more healthy this way) and isn't tasty either. Wish they would put all gf food together, it's time consuming to hunt for gf gems here. Definitely try the cup4cup flour if you're a baker. I can't use anything else now.
Love having a Whole Foods right off 45!
The best store to find an extensive list of gluten-free items! Their gf choices in the hot foods/salad bar area are delicious and clearly labeled. The best part is the knowledgeable staff and friendly service. The cheese department is a dream with samples and the best cheese selection around town!
So many GF items that I almost forget I have to do "special shopping for myself:) Their frozen GF Whole Foods White bread has become a staple in my house with the kids making their sandwiches from it too! Great prices, great products and great customer service! They have their own concierge (Bonnie) to help guide you through ALL of their offerings! I mean...come on! How AWESOME is that! I love this place!
Whole Foods has a really good salad bar in some of the locations and some good gluten free items in the baked goods area. they also can sometimes have gluten-free options in the prepared foods section or the warm prepared foods section even which is really nice. they are pre-made salad section the croutons are almost always either not included at all or they're in a sealed bag and have alternative dressing options if you need a different one you can ask them for one and I usually give it to you in my experience as well as some of the more harder to find products from the Expo are at Whole Foods
Once again underwhelmed by whole foods gluten free accommodations. Many major mainstream grocery stores do a better job if making it easy to find a quick gluten free meal and not have to have a salad. It is very simple you simply label your food. Does not have gluten containing ingredients. #wholepaycheck #wholegluten
It's fine for prepackaged foods. DO NOT eat from kitchen prepared foods. Yesterday I asked a kitchen manager about ingredients and looked for listed warnings on the food case tag. No gluten. Once I had started eating I noticed on the printed ingredient tag the second ingredient was gluten. The store manager was very apologetic. But me dealing with the consequences also took time out of vacation. It was a disappointing lesson learned.
At the deli I ask about a sandwich. They had gluten free bread so it looked promising. The job was handed over to the deli man who proceeded to recite a disclaimer that he doesn't know if anything he has contains gluten. I would have been happy to choose the ingredients, but told him at the very least he have to clean the cutting board. His response was that if I am that sensitive to gluten, I should not eat there. The only other time I found someone that testy was when it was busy, but here I was the only one at the counter. As a grocery store it is about same as a regular store as far as having a variety of gluten-free items.
New Beyond Meat burger place is not gluten free despite having a gluten free bun option. They pick up everything with their hands after handling wheat buns and don't change gloves so contamination is guaranteed. Confirmed with employee working their that they can't make gluten free burgers. The old burger place could do it with some instruction. Very misleading to advertise a gluten free bun with contaminated vegetables.
We refer to it as whole paycheck but amazing choice of foods all in one place. even their buffet is carefully marked. they also carry my favorite papa ganache cupcakes from Matawan in their refrigerator case, but be careful, they are next to non gluten free goodies. I just select items in further in the case. their in house bake shop also mashes fabulous goodies. they also carry my favorite gluten free rosemary baguette from against the grain.
They sell lots of GF products, though you have to search them out- GF flour, cereals, pasta. Upstairs choices of hot or cold lunch food to takeaway wasn't as great as I was hoping but there are some. GF bread and cakes are a bit disappointing, hoping they will improve their selection.
I was excited to find a separate refrigerated case by the bakery that was completely gluten-free. There are breads, pies, cakes, cookies, muffins, etc. I took away one star because I wish they had pre-packaged GF grains besides oats. They have some, like millet and amaranth, but they are in the bulk section in between glutened grains and flours.
The deli doesn't make sandwiches to order anymore?!?! Wtf!!! It's all some dumb thing that's by the lbs pre made sandwiches or something I don't even know or care. Yes they sell gf food and the like but you need to take out another mortgage to pay for it, and the line is always excruciatingly long. Forget it. Get yourself to vitamin cottage or sprouts instead you'll thank yourself. Keep an eye on the king soopers though they are branching out trying to beat whole foods. You go king stupids!!!! Ha ha
This WF is good for GF grocery standbys but skip the hot food. Mislabeled food and ingredients + under informed employees = Cross contamination central. A number of times I've asked about other ingredients only to find them blatantly in the food, so who is to say gluten isn't there either? Def skip this store and go to the west orange store. It's twice the size and the employees are trained far better.
They advertise that they will put sandwiches on gluten free bread and burgers but in reality they will sometimes refuse to do it. The whole foods brand gluten free bread is terrible if it's not toasted and disintegrates, the soy sauce for the sushi has wheat in it. But they do sell the glutino bread which is actually good and can be eaten without toasting it but they don't use that for the sandwiches.
Tons of gf products. Wouldn't go near the prepared foods because it clearly says it's all cooked in the same place. Just wish the food wasn't so expensive!!! Can find the same products at other supermarkets for way less. Only like to buy fresh ingredients from here.
