Your pie has great gf options however with the kitchen setup "subway" style, hands that have just been tossing dough are reaching into containers of condiments. I had a great caprese salad with no issues and loved being able to "create my own" salad or pizza but cross contamination seemed like a huge risk.
"It is possible that there may be trace amounts of flour among our toppings. Our team members would be happy to change their gloves and build your pizza in a separate prep area in the back upon request if you are allergic to gluten. Gluten-free pizzas are baked in an aluminum tray to promote easy identification and reduced gluten contact. However, since we do work around flour all day and ALL pizzas are baked in the same oven, we can not guarantee that trace particles of flour and/or gluten are not in and around gluten-free items."
Staff did ask if I wanted my pizza prepared in back, changed gloves even though I'm Gluten sensitive and not celiac (although it seems to be getting worse). My only issues are that the vegan cheese is daiya which isn't the best texture or taste wise and I am also intolerant to dairy. It was difficult to order since I had never been there before... The menu does not specify what has allergens in it... It hangs on the wall as you walk through the cafeteria style line. I would love to have had a salad but with no info on dressings... And all salads being premade with cheese in them, I did not order. There is a sense of feeling rushed because of the ordering style which means I'm less likely to ask questions or order more. Would also have loved to have a brownie.... Which is extremely easy to make gluten and dairy free... But again nothing was conveniently labeled. Pizza was ok. Mostly the vegan cheese is off-putting, but the crust is put into a foil pan and baked as so to not cross contaminate it... Which is awesome, but it was flimsy/not crispy when it came out.... Maybe I should have asked for it to be well done.... That might do the trick. I would go back, but I'm still on the lookout for a better option. These are personal sized pizzas, but my 5 year old son and I shared one, each having 3 pieces. The up charge for gluten free is 3.00... Which I'm happy to pay... Considering that it means more gloves and gluten free flour are more expensive.
Delicious! Was able to have a pizza that was gluten, dairy, corn, and soy free! They have at least one dairy free sorbet each day as well. So happy to find a safe place! They make the gluten free pizzas in the back with separate ingredients away from the others and cook it separately as well.
This place is awesome. Create your own pizza (with no additional charge for extra toppings!). They’ll prep the gf pizza in the back if you ask. I loved their gf crust. My stomach did feel a little unsettled several hours after eating here, but my digestion is inconsistent, so it could have been something else. Posting a pic as well.
This place was great! They make the GF pizza in the back away from everything else. They even put it in a pan with a metal lid on it to keep from CC. No reaction whatsoever! May have to make this a regular stop for the family.
This place tastes amazing! Great food, even better service. The only thing is if you are a celiac don’t go during prime hours. They do have a separate kitchen for gluten free orders but they all share the same oven. Granted they do put the pizza on a pan in the oven so it doesn’t touch. There is still a lot of moving parts and only so much they can do during crazy rushes. They really do try to keep an eye on the gluten-free pies if you have a severe allergy, and if they suspect any type of cross-contamination they’ll try to make your order over again. But again there is only so much they can do. So I would give them a 5 star usually but last night my wife got sick from them and we should have known better but we’ve eaten there before without her getting sick. Maybe we’ll try again when it’s slow......
Extremely knowledgeable!!! And super careful. It was fast and easy to order and not a long wait at all. The pizza was sooo good! And I did not get sick! Ate here 2 time while vacationing in Savannah and loved it each time!
This pizza is awesome! I just visited for the first time. The staff are very conscientious about allergies/sensitivities. Nearly all the toppings are gluten free (except the meatballs). The crust has a nice texture with a light crunch on the bottom.
I love this place. I try to come at a slow time, and the manager now recognizes me. She is already changing her gloves and has a pencil and paper ready to take my order to the back before I reach the counter. Jennifer is extremely diligent! She keeps my pizza away from others in the oven, she sweeps before my pizza is in the oven, and doesn’t sweep again until after my pizza is out. They have dedicated cutting equipment in the front, and they have a dedicated space in the back using ingredients not on the line to prevent cross contamination. I love their pizzas, and Jennifer has kept me safe!
Pizza was so good! Thin crust but got to pick all the toppings. They asked if it was allergy or preference and when I said allergy the girl immediately took off her gloves and went to make it in the back. It was a little crisp on the edges but I know how hard it is to make a gluten free crust so it didn't bother me. The 10in crust was 11.99 and it did take a little longer to bake but it was well worth the wait. My family loved it too! Will eat here again!
I have eaten here three times in the last 6 weeks. It has become our "go-to" spot when we are in Phenix City. Fairly affordable and lots of choices. I have celiac; my SO is not gluten free. I have experimented a bit since the first time when my pizza crust was cooked through but did not hold shape (light sauce, extra crispy fixed that issue for me). They ask me right away if I need it prepared in the back and then immediately take off gloves to take my order to the back, where it is prepared away from the gluten containing items. My pizza goes on its pan into the brick oven (non-GF goes directly in without a pan) and into a section well away from the gluten pizzas. I have NEVER gotten sick from them and I am hyper-sensitive to cross contamination. Only thing that would make it better would be to have an area with access to the brick oven of its own that is fully designated gluten free so my pizza could go directly into the oven and have the opportunity to fully crisp on bottom, which is not something as easily designed. Can't wait to move up this way and have it nearby all the time!!!
Good enough when you’re hungry. They asked if I had an allergy and when I said yes they cooked the pizza in the back away from all the flour. Pizza crust is typical gluten free- tasteless. But that’s how you know it’s safe!
I have celiac and am very sensitive. I have come to this location many times and never had a problem. When ordering you tell them you want the gluten free crust, and then they will ask “For allergy or preference?” If you have an allergy definitely say allergy, because they will make your order in the back away from all the contaminated toppings. They are always very nice and they understand celiac very well. Me and my sister both have celiac and always enjoy the pizza!!
This place is phenomenal. My celiac ten year okd’s favorite restaurant Staff super knowledgeable and great allergy customers very well. They have dedicated prep area and super tasty pizza They also deliver via Postmates which we often use!
My son with Celiac hasn’t gotten glutened here after eating here probably 20 times, but my brother has, so just watch your topppings. If you tell them that you have Celiac they will prepare your pizza seaparately to avoid cross contamination. Don’t get the sausage or meatballs even though the ingredient list says they are GF. The other review is wrong - NOT all of the gelatos are Gf.
Gluten free dough is prepared in a separate location. Cooked in aluminum pan in the wood fired oven away from other pizzas. Prepared first and cut in a designated gluten free area of the kitchen. Taste is amazing. Gelato is all gluten free as well. ( I’m new to eating GF, but feel very the staff was very knowledge)
Staff made my gluten free (celiac) pizza in the back to avoid cross contamination. Amazing pizza, no reaction! Salad and gelato were amazing also.
They make the gf pizzas in the back if you tell them it’s an allergy. Very good service and very knowledgeable about gluten free menu.
We were visiting from Minnesota and I saw this place had good reviews so we decided to stop here for dinner. Awesome place. The owner went above and beyond to make sure I didn't get sick. Highly recommend eating here!
Even on a Sunday night with skeleton staff I was well taken care of. As soon as I mentioned Celiac my server took off his gloves and told me he was going to the back to make my pizza completely separately. Great quick service concept, you pick any toppings you like in a Subway style line. I picked my toppings and my server wrote them down and disappeared into the back (they didn’t use the contaminated toppings from the normal line). Delicious and safe!
Staff doesnt understand cross containmentation. Asked for glove change but then the other staff member who had been making wheat pulled crust out of gf box. Asked them to start over. They did but then they put the contaminated dough back in the gluten free box. Used the same marinara as the gluten. They use to be careful and had separate containers.
Safe for celiac. Just wish they would adjust prices down a little. Crazy expensive for a small pizza.
I can eat here without getting sick. But what everyone is saying about the pizza is correct. Its usually burnt around the edges and undercooked in the middle. It's ok though, it's still a pizza that I didnt have to cook
The entire staff is extremely knowledgeable about Gf. If you tell them you have an allergy or Celiac they will make it in the back away from all other gluten pizzas. They use fresh toppings from dedicated gluten free toppings. they know the difference between choosing to be GF and having to be gluten free. The price is amazing for a gf pizza that you can load up on toppings with for no additional charge. No one acts like it’s a inconvenience and I have eaten there many times before and never gotten sick. My fav place now!
If you tell them it’s an allergy, they will prepare the GF pizza separately with fresh toppings from the package, not their contaminated bins up front. Just be careful with the gelato- some of the flavors are GF but they use the same scoop so there is contamination!
Went for lunch today for Valentine’s because I have had good luck twice. Today they literally rolled their eyes when I asked for gluten free. Then the unlucky employee went in the back came back up front and grabbed the brush that they brush all the dough with. Sorry but very big red flag. Was so hopeful that this would be our “go to “ place. Would give them a zero if I could.
I ordered gluten free crust. They immediately asked “preference or allergy,” which I thought was great service. I said allergy, and they prepared mine in the back instead of in the front where all the regular pizza flour is. You can ask them to change gloves and use clean utensils. I ordered the Great White, but learned after the fact that you can add additional toppings for no extra charge. I’m from out of town and this was a nice find in such a small town. The gf crust tasted really good. Follow me on Facebook and Instagram @ Gluten_Is_A_Pain_In_The_Glutes.
My first time here and very impressed. They asked if it was allergy or preference. when I said allergy, he took his gloves off and prepared my pizza separate from everything else. it was the best gluten free pizza I have had.
Staff took order and went in back away from main line to make pizza. They didn’t make me feel like a crazy person when I double checked things. Even told my son which gelato options he could have and used a clean spoon.
