This restaurant is NOT dedicated gluten free. They serve both bread and pastries containing gluten.
It was nice to be able to try gluten free pastel de nata but they were not made with puff pastry, and the gluten free pizza was tasty.
On reflection I wouldn't eat here again after understanding how much gluten is used in their kitchen, though I did not ask about their safety procedures and they are certified by the Portuguese Coeliac Association.

I was very confused about why this place was so highly rated. I’ve eaten at many gluten free restaurants around the world and this has to be one of the worst.
The staff were very unfriendly and served us cold codfish cakes and shrimp croquettes straight from the case. Didn’t offer to warm it first the way other Portugese restaurants had.
The waffles were so dry you could barely swallow them. The only thing I enjoyed was the fresh orange juice. Most of the traditional Portugese food is gluten-free friendly. I would save my money and eat elsewhere.

The disappointment from this place carried with me throughout the day. I assure you I do not hand out bad reviews hardly ever, but I am wondering why this place gets such high ratings. We stopped in for breakfast this morning, and ordered a wide range of items that all had some issue. The almond croissant had a strange consistency, and got exponentially harder to chew when there were more layers of the dough overlapping one another. The taste was okay at best. Our cod cake and shrimp empanada weren't even heated up before hand, and just thrown on the plate cold. Unpleasant to eat cold mushy cod. The shrimp was probably the tastiest thing, but again, cold. I ordered a banana waffle that was drizzled with really good honey and cinnamon, but the waffle itself was kinda hard to chew, and even harder to cut. I would have guessed it was made earlier in the day from the way it kinda squeaked when you chewed it, but my girlfriend said she saw him prepare it fresh. The pastel de nata was also just okay. Overall, really disappointing because this place is highly reviewed and rated, and it just didn't feel like there was anything made with genuine love or effort. We tried five different things, and I walked away without being able to recommend any of them.

I finally was able to try the pastel de nata because of this place and it was SO good! It was both gluten and dairy free and after taking one bite I wished we could have bought several but we didn’t have enough euros on hand to do so. The staff was very patient and helpful with my many questions. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for yummy gf baked goods and beer in Lisbon. It doesn’t disappoint.

A dedicated gf bakery/café with plenty of gf, lactose free and vegan options. Had the vegan pastel de nata which was good.

This is NOT a dedicated gluten free place as suggested.
I was sold regular pastéis de nata and when I noticed the mistake the staff just said it was my mistake! They always have regular pastries as well as gluten free ones and I should have asked
Again: NOT A DEDICATED GLUTEN FREE place, NOT CELIAC FRIENDLY!!!

Absolutely wonderful to find a decent coffee with cakes, croissants, pastille de nata, pizzas and so much more and all gluten free! It's just by the metro and train station and although the outlook is a little unpreposessing I'd rather be able to enjoy a pastry than the view. There are lots of the latter. Very few gf pastry shops! And they also do plant based and lactose free if needed

Not what I was expecting but everything I’ve tried has been decent, especially the pizzas. I would not say it’s dedicated (not sure where this impression came from), because my friends were able to get non-gf options, but they seem to really know their stuff with dietary restrictions (dedicated space in the kitchen I assume, based on past reviews). I’ve not been sick afterwards, and they’re certified by the Portuguese celiac association. Just don’t be surprised when you see gluten pastries there too, and specify.

I visited Zarzuela many times during my stay in Lisbon. GF and safe for coeliacs. I recommend the vegan pasteis de nata and vegan chocolate croissant!
They also offer soy and almond milk for their coffees.
You will need cash unless you have a Portuguese card.

There are a ton of options for gluten free and dairy free food here! It is not a dedicated gluten free place, but everything is prepared separately and the restaurant has some kind of gluten free certification.

Disclaimer I wish I would’ve known: majority of the pastries are made from corn meal (not 100% but pretty sure). We had an apple croissant, Swiss & ham sandwich both of which had very chewy dough. Not flaky and difficult to digest. Cool place for celiacs b/c food is safe but there are better substitutes.

I know this place has a great reputation and reviews, but I had to add my two cents. Eating here several times while I’m in Lisbon. I’ve had a hamburger and a pizza so far, and it’s delicious! Trying the GF pastéis de nata this week!

I ordered a sandwich, waffles and juice. The food was amazing for being gluten free and the owner was really nice and understandable! Everything on the menu is Gluten free, so you don’t have to be worried if you’re food is 100% gluten free. You can also order things that are Dairy free and vegan.

The custard tarts are fantastic! I had a waffle however that was awful, must’ve been made ahead of time and was just warmed up because it was hard. Prices okay

Very friendly staff and tons of GF options: bread, waffles, pizza, pastries, pastel de nata... great choice of freshly made smoothies too. Low key decoration but simple and good food. Cash only.

Phenomenal!! Gluten free doughnuts is something that I’ve never been able to find at home (ireland) or abroad with the right consistency, until we found this place. Entire menu is gluten free and tastes brilliant. Went here for breakfast almost every day

Absolutely great food. A gazillion options with a strong understanding of allergies. They are certified by the Portuguese Celiac Association. I’ve been in Lisbon for about three weeks and have already eaten there about seven times. The food is great. The staff is great. The wifi is great. This is an awesome place.

Great pastries and lost of selection.

Agree with person who said it is Gluten Free Heaven. Had been there twice while in Lisbon. Had not seen such a variety anywhere else - I tried a few things and they all tasted great. I wish we had a place like that in Bay Area of San Francisco.
Yes
Great selection of pastries and just everything! I literally stopped here three days in a row!

Thus is gf heaven! You must have a bite of everything pastry.... and there’s like 12 to choose from. Seriously the best flaky pastry I’ve ever had since being gf.

Oh wow! So delicious. And 100% celiac friendly. I will come for every meal đ

Zarzuela scores high for having gluten-free baked goods available, but not for ambiance and service. We had an ultimately tasty gf pizza to take away and two natas that we thought were a bit soggy. After walking quite far to hunt down their gf goods, we found the ambiance inside a bit sterile and depressing, like a cafeteria, and chose to take our selections to go rather than hang out there longer than needed. Just good to know for those who may try to plan a nice lunch there.

Absolutely amazing natas! Would highly recommend this place
