Wonderful meal here!! Pizza was delicious and cooked with separate ingredients on its own pan. The gluten free meatballs were amazing! We ended up ordering 2 rounds because they were so good! Very cute spot and great service. Our waiter was very helpful answering my questions.
This place was great! Not a crazy extensive menu, but pizza and pasta can be made gluten free. I had the Toni pizza which was incredible. The crust was different from most gluten free crusts I’ve had but really good. The pizza was cooked on a separate aluminum tray to ensure no cross contamination and the waiter seemed knowledgeable. The only negatives - slightly on the pricier side (my gf pizzq was $27) and the place is pretty small which meant it got loud
Felt pretty comfortable eating here! They noted my allergy and the only reason I was comfortable ordering a GF pizza was because they told me it would be cooked in its own aluminum tray. 5 stars for being a great gluten free Italian option but the salmon was undercooked and the GF pizza crust is more like a crunchy thick cracker
I emailed few days in advance to confirm that they can make gluten free Alfredo with gluten free pasta. I got very quick reply to my first and all subsequent emails . They said they take proper precautions when preparing food that needs to be gluten free. My niece enjoyed her gluten free Alfredo with gluten free pasta . Her friends enjoyed their non-gluten free food as well . I greatly appreciate their quick replies to my questions .
We went there with our Celiac daughter. We chose this place because they had a big sign at the front, proudly saying that they have GF pizza and pasta. The sign was yellow and stood out - so that gave us a feeling they took it seriously.
All looked OK at first. When we wanted one of the salads that was marked GF, they explained that they currently don't have the GF version of it. That's OK - makes us feel they take it seriously. The GF pizza was fine, not jaw dropping, but good enough for my daughter to take the leftover with us. She also had a bite of their meatball appetizer (Polpettine, marked GF) and some salad (also marked GF).
BUT...
15 minutes after leaving the place, my daughter started feeling sick. She ended up throwing up all her dinner in a public restroom. Given the little she ate all day aside from that restaurant - there is no doubt that it was the food there that made her sick, and the symptoms were very much what happens to her when she's exposed.
We threw away the left overs, and will never return to this place again!
Arrived shortly after opening and informed the server of celiac and need for gluten-free meal. Ordered coffee and Margherita pizza with pepperoni on half. Server gave no feedback that order had gluten, but shortly after meal began to feel symptoms of gluten. I recommend the restaurant provide better training for staff and based on experience there warn others to insist that servers are 100% clear about avoiding gluten cross-contamination.
Some of the best GF pasta I’ve come across in the city. I loved the spaghetti carbonara and have gotten it more than once. They only have spaghetti and penne GF pasta options though, no other pasta shapes. I’m not celiac though so can’t speak to safety.
We’ve been to Zia Maria Chelsea many times. We’ve had pizza, pasta, and their meatballs (which have no filler- all meat). We talk to them extensively about our GF issues and they are very well-versed in and take pride in their GF offerings. They’ve always been super attentive to us - I think it’s a safe space to GF dine :-)
Really good tasting food but pretty sure I got sick from gluten exposure here. My food marked gluten allergy also came with bread in a separate baggy which did not inspire very much confidence. I believe the food was gluten free ingredients since it was the penne which was the gf option, but I had my glutened symptoms following eating it incl mouth sores so I think there may have been cross contamination. Wouldn’t go here again :/ Maybe ok if you’re not celiac
